Honest question....what power does hoa actually have?
Often, HOAs have more power than a city government.
People of integrity expect to be believed, when they're not, they let time prove them right.

For as much as Texans brag about freedom, they LOVE living in an HOA. I can't stand them. Screw the HOA and the people running them

They have the right to come onto your property and fix the problem. At my last house they hacked a bush to the ground after I had trimmed it 3 times. I was furious. The problem is they can charge you for making the crew come out to fix it and if you don't pay they can put a lien on the house. I don't know if they will do that for a swing but I guess I will find out.
That's ****ing bull*****

Yep. And yet, people still give up the freedoms of home ownership in lieu of pretend cookie cutter home ownership. **** that.

Paying a mortgage isn't the only thing that makes one a homeowner. It's being master of your domain that does. In an HOA, you're nothing more than mortgage-paying window dressing. Your paying on a property someone else has control over. Sorry but that's pathetic.

I have a feeling I'd end up in bracelets at some point if I lived in an HOA neighborhood.

I'm willing to tolerate my degenerate neighbor letting his rusty car rot in his front yard. I will never live in a house with an HOA. It's like having to ask for permission to wipe your own ass.

I think many people like the HOA for what it's purpose should be (no broken down cars in the driveway, yards mowed at least once per month, Christmas lights aren't up in June, etc). It's when they begin to nitpick at **** like this is when they begin to overreach in many's opinion.

I grew up in a neighborhood without a HOA and I much prefer my current neighborhood with one.
ArticPenguin:
I am a middle aged lesbian with two children. In Texas, the GOP would love to claim I am an unfit parent and take my children.

Response when pressed for proof:
I actually have 6 links, and was getting super pissed the more info I looked up...So, look it up yourself, I am not going to fight about something I know to be true, to a person who would just as soon see me in prison or dead.

I agree so long as you don't have blue hairs and *******s on the board that have nothing better than to hassle the workin' folk.

What's wrong with Christmas lights in June?

I love my non hoa neighborhood. Our neighborhood is actually a small town within a town. We have a little city hall and police dept and volunteer fire dept. We have some city ordinances so there are no junky homes....but never get letters about stupid **** like at my old hoa neighborhood.

It's very mildly trashy to me. A rustic-looking wooden swing would probably be okay with them.

I was told by the lady on the phone that all swings were outlawed in the front yard by the board of directors. I'm not sure how we let a board of directors dictate how we live our lives.

"We have over 850 houses in the neighborhood. If all of them had a swing how many do you think would be in disrepair and an eye sore?"

I would have zero issue with it if they told me to change colors and get rid of the neon.
Seems like they could just outlaw broken swings

Everybody thinks they are the exception. That's why they have rules. Follow the rules and you get no nastygrams.

Have a way to put up chains that are hard to spot and then put the swing up when you are out there, and take it down when you're done.
Greater love hath no man than this....
