It's ugly bc it's pink. Get a wood one that matches the tones of your house and I bet it'd be fine.

My vote is that I wouldn't care enough as your neighbor to complain.

There is a guy at the end of our street that doesn't edge and his grass is growing down into the street drain. He also lets his dog **** in the front and doesnt pick it up. That does warrant a complaint.

I thought thought that was just a normal house. Huh
not many 3 car garages in houston

There are several in my neighborhood, but I'm not technically in Houston.

It's very mildly trashy to me. A rustic-looking wooden swing would probably be okay with them.

I was told by the lady on the phone that all swings were outlawed in the front yard by the board of directors. I'm not sure how we let a board of directors dictate how we live our lives.

"We have over 850 houses in the neighborhood. If all of them had a swing how many do you think would be in disrepair and an eye sore?"

I would have zero issue with it if they told me to change colors and get rid of the neon.

Put a flag pole up, attach it like a tether ball and let the kid fly tornado style.

Sorry to be a pesky grandfather type but my daughter has/had the same one I think. Either way be sure the ghost is done riding b4 you put it in the garage. HOA types hardly ever have a sense of humor.

The HOA documents actually specifically call out a flag pole as requiring a permit. If the founding fathers of my hood wanted to give the HOA this vast amount of power they wouldn't have wasted parchment on specifically calling out items. The document would read as follows...

The HOA reserves the right to **** on anything you do at your house and there is nothing you can do about it.

Do you have a tree that the swing can go on in the backyard?

A very small one. It would suck. Plus it's the principle of the matter. It's my damn house and I want a swing in the front yard.

It's rules like these that lead to NextDoor posts wailing that "omg someone knocked on my front door today! I was so scared! Everyone keep an eye out!"

When did neighborhoods stop being neighborly and start being Soviet Russia?

It's ugly, but I wouldn't care as a neighbor. It should be gone in a few years anyway unless your last name is Dugger.

I'm convinced HOA's are created by people with personality disorders.

I'd tell them to pound sand.

Tell them you find it beautiful and you dare them to prove otherwise.

Find an uglier swing, and replace the existing one with it. (Something tells me you can find an uglier one; you did find the first.)

Maybe the HOA will ask you to put your original ugly swing back in its place.

If I were your neighbor, I probably would not have noticed the swing and sure would not care.

What if your neighbor decided their house would be beautiful in purple. Or that having a junkyard in the front is just fine.

Those are the reasons HOAs exist.

The deed restriction specifically calls out getting a permit before you paint the exterior of a house and also specifically calls out stroring items or having trash piles visible from the street. Doesn't mention one word about swings in the front yard or kids toys. Not once in here did anyone question why HOAs exist.

Thanks for trying, have a nice day.

Yet how many of your neighbors (dozens, hundreds?) are happy, compliant members of your HOA? People buy in HOA neighborhoods because they look great and the property values stay high because of the rules to keep them that way. Thanks for playing, ingrate....

Just on my street today I have noticed trashcans stored on the driveway, basketball hoops that I would bet money don't have a permit, and an above ground pool visible from the street. I would bet that the HOA could twist their interpretation of the restrictions to put 99% of the homes out of compliance. I got told on the phone today I can't plant a bush in the front yard without a permit. Hell a crack in the driveway could be deemed unsafe and ugly. That rules out almost every house already.

There are countless trashy things that a person could put in their yard. It would be nearly impossible to have every one of them enumerated in the bylaws. Their request is petty, but within reason given that a significant percentage of your neighborhood would likely agree with them.

HOAs exist to keep making money for the subdivision builders.

That's the point of this poll. So far a little over 75% of people don't care and I bet that number would be higher if it weren't for the bright pink and yellow. I would have no issue with them telling me I can't have bright colors but for them to just make a blanket statement saying no swings with no language in the restrictions to back that up is BS.

If there's a specific section of the deed restrictions that addresses swings, make them show it to you.

If they want you to take it down because it is "unattractive", tell them to pound sand. Let them try to prove that that's unattractive in a court of law. Good luck.

If they want to formally file a complaint, won't you receive it in writing with the exact rule you are breaking? Quit calling and stirring the pot and they will likely leave you alone for a while!

I would argue that "children's toys" are NOT "unsightly"; especially a single toy, that is exactly where it is intended to be and be used.
