Not once does it mention anything about swings or kids toys or anything. The only thing they have come at me with so far is that it's unsightly and that any improvement needs a permit. They are taking the most liberal interpretation of the documents and then going even further than that.
Mine is under 'play structures', did you look there?

Can you have a swing on your front porch (assuming you had one)?

I think it is quite humorous how they'll let you have a brick column in the middle of your driveway, but not a swing.

Seriously, that covered area looks like it was a mistake hah. Something I'd see on that 'fail' website.

Just set up a tall enough Halloween display directly in front of it.

Better yet, make it a creepy Christmas display so it's good for three months.

Obvious short term solution is to put a skeleton in it for now... then a turkey... then an elf.

Add the text above to Article V.

"Play structures and swing sets in public view; Committee approval is required."

Where are you seeing this? I can't find any mention of swings anywhere. I have reached out to our community manager but can't get her to point anything out other than what was in the letter I received.

Or are you saying I should try to have that text added?

I honestly think they would make you take down a porch swing. I have been told that the board has outlawed all swings in the front of a house.

No mention of play structures that I can find.

Can you put some removable clip's on the swing and just take it off when not in use ?

Then move the ropes off the side.

Too adult of a solution. He'd rather p&m......

What's stopping the HOA from telling me I need a permit to hang ropes from my tree? I tried originally to store the swing in the garage but my wife preferred to have it out so the chains weren't left hanging. If someone from the HOA had approached me looking for solutions I would have been more than reasonable with them to work it out. I called looking for an explanation of my violation and got told all swings are bad. I hate that HOAs hide behind their managing company and just send their minions to send you threatening letters with no attempt to reach out. I guarantee you most HOA violations could be resolved with a simple phone call or a hand shake.

Kind of frowned upon given Texas' history with ropes and trees.

You said text above which threw me off. I believe governing bodies only have the power explicitly given to them in the governing documents. They should be the ones having to add that text in order to outlaw swings across the board. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to do something that isn't specifically forbidden. If they want to tell me it's ugly that's fine, that gives me the chance to make it not ugly.

They said it's ugly. You're in violation of it causing your house to not be "attractive."

That's pretty much the whole story. They got upset about some patio furniture that you couldn't even see unless you basically climbed my fence and decided to send me a letter about the "violation." I sent them a responsive letter pointing out that they're idiots and any attempt at enforcement will be met with a restraining order and me collecting attorney's fees on top.

Did this to my apartment complex when they entered my apartment without warning or exigent circumstances and then called to complain about the security alarm that they didn't install. Told them I'd be glad to discuss with them as soon the cops secured my apartment and wrote up the report from their trespassing if they still had an issue with the alarm. They've been nice as can be since.

I thought under the common rental agreement in Texas, the landlord can enter a tenant's unit for a number of reasons without prior notice/consent.

I wrote into my lease that they have to give 24 hours notice unless for an emergency. They were trying to replace the air filter - not an emergency.

Install 2 hooks on the inside of the garage awning. build a pole that makes installation/removal easy from the top. only place when needed. no need for "chains "hanging down from tree. tell wife to show tits.

It's not permanent and it's properly permitted with the city. Nothing in the lease says I can't. They didn't like the 140-decibel siren.

I just spent the last 19 years living in the unincorporated part of my county with absolutely no restrictions whatsoever.

In a couple weeks, I'll be moving into my house with an HOA.

**** like this makes me wish I wasn't moving.

I have an old dog that doesn't like to be crated. Notice requirement allows me to make arrangements for him when they need to do something routine. At least that's what I told them was my reasoning.

I would take pictures of every house with a basketball goal in the driveway and send it to the HOA and let them know that you'd take it down as soon as the goals are gone.

is it wrong that I've never permitted my alarm? I did get a $75 fine because the cops had to come once.

This seems totally nuts to me. Why the hell would anyone surrender property rights to people they don't even know? When HOA's use a phrase like "unsightly" that could mean a million different things. You just let everyone in your neighborhood have a say in what you can do to your own property. Approval to plant a shrub? Think about that. You have to ask for someone else's approval to put a $20 plant in your own yard! That's insane. This isn't a neighborhood. It's a crowd sourced Gestapo that's goal is to sop up any flavor or variety in life and squeeze it out into a big gray bucket of lost creativity.

I'm on your side coolerguy, I moved away from an HOA . It was a bland, boring newer neighborhood.

They have the right to come onto your property and fix the problem. At my last house they hacked a bush to the ground after I had trimmed it 3 times. I was furious. The problem is they can charge you for making the crew come out to fix it and if you don't pay they can put a lien on the house. I don't know if they will do that for a swing but I guess I will find out.

I just talked a lady about it and she said swings aren't allowed. I asked her why my neighbors can have skeletons, witches, and ghosts in their yard and she said seasonal decorations are ok. I told her there is a ghost in the swing. She said she didn't see it. I said it's a ghost, it's invisible. I have officially stooped to their level
Go to Home Depot and get a skeleton. Place said skeleton in swing. Instant seasonal decoration.
