Once for beating the crap out of another kid with my Rambo lunch box in the 4th grade. Can't remember why.

Other time was in 8th grade when a friend of mine and I convinced two speds to fight each other at lunch over another sped girl.

In fourth grade I had a classmate get closed fist punched in the mouth by a 90+ year old, 5' tall nun for smarting off. Nobody ****ed with Sister Benjamin after that. May she rest in peace.

Several times. Once for leaving a piece of wadded up paper on the science room classroom. Once for addressing the coach as"Huh" instead of sir.Once for for getting into a spat with another team-member. Coach made us exchange licks.

More times that I can remember. Mostly for talking too much in elementary and being a distraction in class. In middle school and high school for screwing around or fighting.

Multiple times, and I'm better for it.

Trifeta here as well. Worst part was they would always call my parents and I would get my ass beat when I got home as well.

Wish it still worked that way today.

Once when I skipped school as a Senior. The reason it took so long was that my Dad said if I got in trouble in school it was be twice as bad at home decided not to test my dad.

Yes. In 7th grade the fat dude in front of me had one of those chains on his wallets. I sneakily unhooked it and looped it around his desk. When he got up to say the pledge the desk went with him and he cursed in Spanish. He and I had a day to fill in the names of all 254 Texas counties on a state map. He didn't fill in a single one while I did about 240. Got licks the next day.

Got them another time in 9th grade for sitting near some classmates that were giving a sub a hard time. Guilt by proximity I guess. Principal told me he was going to make me take detention and miss football practice. I told him he was giving me licks right then and there and he obliged.

No. I just saw him getting down and kicked him off. Oops.

Nope, my dad reserved that right for himself. I learned quick enough not to do it again. Learned to barter pretty good with the principal to get any other punishment than calling the parents or something that requires a signature.

Numerous times, too many to count, in middle school and jr high. This was late 80's, early 90's. We got them for acting up in class, who knows what else. Sometimes we had to write sentences as punishment, but on occasion we were allowed to opt for licks instead. Depending on the teacher, we chose the licks, got it over much sooner. But those teachers soon wished up and got our male science teacher to step in and give her swatted for her.

It was awesome once when the teacher busted the paddle on a kids rear and you heard it skipping down the hallway, hitting the lockers along the way. It put a little fear back in the process!!

I feel like I survived the punishment and turned out to be a productive member of society! Time to bring it back into mainstream use!

7th grade to 12th grade, Woodlawn Jr High to PNG, got licks once or twice every couple of weeks. Coach Butch Troy really busted my ass with his paddle.

Coach Pachuca had a drill for the offensive lineman where he would make you run a pass route and if you dropped the ball you got one swat. He would make you run a 80 yard route and then he would throw the ball 5 yards, 1 swat for you b/tch.

Same here. Mid 80s in south Texas. Plus sometimes the coaches just would pick you for looking at them the wrong way. They would get off like sadistic *******s by beating a kid with a piece of lumber. Wish i could run into one of those guys today. Take their walking cane away and beat the hell out of them with it. Uh oh, see the bullying thread. I think i just figured out why i took my anger out on someone else.

There are a lot of quick learners on here given the number of 'Once.' replies. I was not one of those people.

I did when I was in 4th Grade living In KKK Active WhiteTrashville.

We were in line in PE and two kids in front of me were fighting and hitting each other. I didn't really care except that several of their missed punches hit me. So... I did what you do and I told Coach Redneck the PE teacher.

Coach Redneck took all three of us into the bathroom for licks. He also brought the teacher's aide Mrs Fatass as the "Witness". Those two idiots got licks for "fightin" and I got licks for "tattlin"

Years later, they named an elementary school building after Coach Redneck. I still think that's hilarious.

Four times. Deserved every second of it. I am glad I got beat.

We desperately need to bring it back. Kids are vile, sadistic little creatures that need to be taught the learning power of pain. With pain you get reservation. With reservation you get forethought. With forethought you get critical thinking. Something that seems to be in freefall nowadays.

Pain is the most powerful teacher we have, by far. It is free, easy to initiate, and embeds humility.

A very powerful mantra has remained to me throughout my years. "Pain, Retains!! Pain, Retains!!"

All within the bounds of constructive beatings of course. To preempt all the helicopter parents. Drunken dads coming home and popping you in the mouth for existing is not what I mean of course.
