Once for fighting in 8th grade, and it didn't do anything to change my behavior or make me a better person. Having decent, responsible people as parents and simply growing up made me into the non-a**hole that I am today.

Yep in 7th Grade. Kid in band kept picking on me and I finally had enough. Turned around and hit him across the face with my trumpet.

I did twice.

Once for beating the crap out of another kid with my Rambo lunch box in the 4th grade. Can't remember why.

Other time was in 8th grade when a friend of mine and I convinced two speds to fight each other at lunch over another sped girl.

Might be a dumb question, but what is a sped? Have never heard that one

I got licks in third or fourth grade for forgetting homework or something like that. I just remember that teacher made each kid who got licks sign the paddle. It was covered in signatures.

Couple times when I was in elementary. When that principal retired, the paddle went with her

Yes numerous times. It was the norm in grade school in 50s and 60s. Kids actually feared but respected teachers and principals.

Does my hot 20 something female teacher my senior year of high school spanking me count?

Yep, once a year for every grade of elementary.

Kindergarten - putting Legos in my mouth at nap time

1st - we had that color change system in place where changing to red meant a paddling. I think talking in the bus line after school pushed me over the edge.

2nd - honestly don't remember

3rd - not sure here either, though that teacher had a very short fuse

4th - apparently telling someone that they suck is the most vile, loathsome cuss word ever and deserving of a paddling from the vice principal.

No, but I was a detention frequent flier for a while because I never finished my math homework. Eventually I figured out that trying to do my homework on the morning bus ride wasn't a good idea.

No. My mom allowed them to, but she also told me if I got in trouble at school I would get a double whooping when I got home. I knew if I did something questionable, and was around my mom when she was cooking with a wooden spoon, to keep my head on a swivel.

Yes. Looking back, I was acting out for a few years after my parents divorced. I was a pain in the a$s for my teachers. I never did anything bad but I disrupted class on a daily basis. I eventually ended up getting paddled by my coach on 2 separate occasions. I deserved it.

One in third grade....got sent out to the hall for talking in class, then got licks because we then talked out in the hall. Duh.

Got a couple in jr high, too, but for the life of me I can't remember why.

And we did sign the form that allowed our kids to have corporal punishment in school, signed in their presence so they knew we did it. Never was an issue.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nope. Instead of hitting me, they decided to keep me in line with an ever-increasing dose of Ritalin that was eventually supplemented by a round of Adderall, and ultimately capped off with a nightly hit of Xanax to curb the effect of the other drugs.

I was really straight kid...almost never got in trouble in school or at home. Only paddled once, in the 6th grade. Coach had a rule that if you left any books, notebooks, etc in the locker room after PE you got a lick. I got pulled out of Language Arts class and had one swat in the hallway. Different times 35+ years ago.

Came here to post that.

Frequent knuckle raps with a ruler.

4th grade paddling for getting covered in mud during recess.

Had an 8th grade Algebra teacher who liked to smack the palm of your hand with a yardstick for minor infractions, ie: talking, chewing gum, unfinished homework. Received 74 smacks for the year. Narrowly missed being first. Kim S. got 77 smacks.

9th grade pops from golf coach for skipping last period.

4 times.

5th grade -- girl kicked me in the face so I hit her back. I got in trouble for hitting a girl and was paddled for the first time in my life by someone other than a parent.

6th grade -- shot the finger at my teacher after she punished me a second time for a single action.

8th grade -- don't remember why, just got paddled by football coach.

11th grade -- cutting up in science class when the teacher (one of my favorites, I really liked him) called me to the front of the class saying, "I'm going to make an example out of you". I assumed we were going to do an experiment of some sort and walked up enthusiastically with a big smile. Then he grabbed his paddle. My face dropped immediately. Hardest paddling I ever got from a teacher.

I imagine that Kim S. grew up to be "fun."

They were still paddling kids in the late 90's at my school district in West Texas..

I got a fake paddling that was good enough for me... I was arguing with a friend and making fun of him for being a Packers fan after they lost to Denver in the Super Bowl in 98 and we both weren't listening to the teacher.

Said teacher wrangled us both into the PE coach's office and made me stand with my nose in the corner while he told my friend to grab his ankles... I heard a loud WHAP! and he told me it was my turn.. my buddy was crying when we exchanged places. My turn to grab my ankles, and then I heard i loud WHAP! but no pain... He had hit the bottom of his shoe with the fiberglass paddle.

Scared the hell outta me... so yeah never actually got hit but I guess I got scared straight

Yep, three licks with the "board of education" for fighting Darnell Lee in 5th grade. We became friends after that and played on the same sports teams.

In 8th grade a group of guys pushed some girls in the boys locker room and held the door shut so they couldn't get out. A crowed developed, so I went to see WTF? Coach kicks the door open and calls all the guys in near proximity to his office. He believed I wasn't involved and said he'd let me go if I identified the guys who did it. I refused to say so he gave me a few pops. Snitches get stitches. I ain't no snitch. Even though he knew who did it and gave them pops anyway.

2nd Grade, 3 times for "fighting". I was fighting back.

5th Grade, 1 time for pushing a fat girl to the ground when she charged at me. She said I was spoiled just like my mom. I said "at least my mom is not a cokehead *****." Because she was. But, I was wrong for defending myself and my mom.

In high school I became a poon. No paddlins. Only tardy one time in 4 years.

Got it twice.

4th Grade: The teacher took the class to the restroom as she normally did a couple times per day. There was another class already there, and when I walked in, all but 1 urinal was occupied. I went to the one that was open, did my business, and flushed. As I flushed, the principal walked in due to the noise, and saw a paper towel in the urinal as I flushed and thought I was flushing paper towels down the urinal. I told him that I had tripped and fell into the flush handle, but he didn't believe me. He took me to the office, wrote me up, and called my parents. He told them what he saw, and recommended a swat. My parents told them they wanted to talk to me before they gave the OK, so he said he'd do it the next day if they'd like. When I got home, I told my parents what happened, and my mom asked "so, you didn't trip into it?" When I told her I didn't, she told me that the swat was deserved for lying. When the principal called my mom the next day, she told him what really happened, stated she didn't agree a punishment/write up was warranted, but since I lied about what happened, a swat was deserved. They gave me a swat with my mom on speakerphone. I remember her asking after if I would lie again after it.

5th Grade: Got into a fight with a bully. School wanted to give me 2 swats, but my parents stepped in and said 1 was good since it was a fight, but a 2nd wasn't justified since they had let them know about the kid picking on me in the past. Got my swat and went on my way. Bully got 2 swats, a week of SAC (alternative class), and a bloody nose.

7th Grade...not really a punishment. If you played football in Middle or High School, you know that the coaches liked to give out swats. As my 7th grade year was ending, one of the football coaches walked out to our study hall and asked "who hasn't gotten a swat this year" in a joyful tone. Me and a couple of others raised our hands. He told us to come into the office because he had something for us. What he had was a swat for each of us. His reasoning was that we all did something he didn't catch.

You started a cripple fight? You realize you're going to hell, right?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nope. But a call from a teacher or principal was enough for me to get it at home. Mom didn't believe in letting strangers smack me - she had that totally under control.

When we were in DOD schools in Europe, the threat of dad getting in trouble and you getting sent back to the States was enough to keep us in line.

"With pain you get reservation. With reservation you get forethought. With forethought you get critical thinking."

Eliminatus is wise. This is the single best connective reasoning to why "the board of education" should be be commonplace in all schools.

More time than I can count - usually in elementry school for fighting on the bus on the way to school. Often times with my brother (so we both got licks).

In high school on the football team, if it was raining we would stay in the locker room and play Simon Says. If you messed up, the coach gave you a swat. LOL
