While I would not claim to know all of the distilleries in Kentucky, the "Yellow Rose" is not a name I know and my best guess is that you were at Four Roses. Their 90 proof bulk product is pretty spare, but the small batch is quite good and reasonably priced.
And your boy defending Makers is a mixed bag, On one hand, they were the first to make a concerted effort to market KY Bourbon as a premium liquor that was superior to the traditional Tennessee and Canadian trash on the market. On the other hand, their product is a middle of the pack KY Bourbon.
Let me know if you want a tasting while in KY, Mrs Wildcat is quite the hostess.

I tried everything they had for tasting..I was on a private tour, but..I was less than impressed.
I like Maker's for the price. Its nice. The tour felt like Disney land though...made for the tour, not for the making. I wasn't implying that Maker's is terrible whiskey, that was solely reserved for Four Roses. Apparently they are now owned by Japanese whisky folk trying to resurrect it back to what it once was.
Do yall live in Lexington? One of my best friends is opening up a restaurant there named Corto Lima with a chef named Jonathon Lundy?

Lundy is a household name in the Bluegrass foody crowd. He was the executive chef at "Jonathan's", the restaurant in the first floor of the Gratz Park Inn for ages. Food was excellent, but the old boutique hotel had a dark, stuffy Downton Abbey feel to it. It was remodeled and re-opened under the name of Distilled. I don't think Lundy is associated with it now.
Corto Lima is reportedly going in at a downtown location that has seen no less than 4 restaurants in 6 years. Most of these were really great places to eat, but for whatever reasons, didn't make it. Perhaps your friends can buck the trend on that address.
Haha, I never mention it when I come in the store because I feel awkward saying "Yeah I'm drummer0415". It's easier and more normal to me to just know people by their real name.
