Thinking of downsizing our uverse channel package and number of receivers in favor of either AppleTV's or the Amazon Firestick. Thinking it would save me about $50-$60 per month. Has anyone done this? We typically watch the local channels, kids shows, showtime (homeland, the affair, etc), ESPN and the like, outdoor channel and a couple of others. We have a Netflix subscription already. Would we need anything else (Hulu, etc) to get everything we're wanting?

I have PlayStation Vue, which I can use with my PS4 and Roku (also works with Chromecast I believe). Then I have an HD antenna for local channels.

It doesn't have a traditional DVR, but you can add shows to your favorites list, and you can view any showings from the past 30 days.

Yeah, it's fine for streaming. No real complaints with it.

I also used to have SlingTV, but I switched to PSVue because I had a lot of buffering issues. I'm not sure if they've resolved that.

Also, take into account the increase in internet data that will be used when you go from cable to streaming services.

I have Hulu, Prime, and Netflix along with an antenna for locals and am completely content getting to see everything I want to watch. Total bill is $28/mo before internet ($50).

I have primal instincts.

I use PS Vue on a Firestick, and the interface load times are slow as ****. If you want an Amazon product, go for the Fire box.

Firestick. Install Kodi and stream movies/shows with Exodus.

Cancelled cable and got a Firestick.

We get CBS (not live) for $5 per month, NBC (not live) for $5 per month, Netflix for $12 per month, and Hulu for $12 per month.

We had Sling to watch all of the ESPN channels, but I don't recommend it. It's not user friendly at all, you can't flip back-and-forth between ESPN stations easily, the connection frequently was lost, and the HD reception was sporadic.

Overall, the Firestick is a great deal, plus you have the option of paying more to get live TV.

Ps Vue on fire tv is very nice

Add another for FireTV. I bought the stick and wasn't happy. Hardware bottleneck only allows for 30FPS on PSVue vs. 60FPS with FireTV, Roku, AppleTV...

PSVue, Netflix, Prime, OTA antenna.

And let's just say I've heard you don't have to pay for PPV either.

We have Verizon FIOS. My daughters live in areas where they are stuck with Time Warner, which is outrageously expensive even for basic cable. So they just get Internet, and I pay an extra $7.50 a month each for two extra cable boxes tethered to Slingbox. A lot of people up here have second homes in Florida or on the Cape & the Islands, and they get Apple TV to take with them to the vacation homes.

Watching TV is a lot more complicated than it used to be.

Go the PlayStation Vue route but use a Fire tv, NOT Roku. The app's interface on Roku is ass awful.

What has Nick and Disney? I could cut cable, but kids will drive me nuts with their demand for those channels.

After looking at all the streaming options it looks like PSVue has everything we need for the best price. If we keep our internet the same, keep Netflix, and switch to psvue we'll save $80 per month over our current promotional rate from at&t and $140 per month over the regular cost. Now let's just hope the wife and kids like it! Thanks for all of the help!

I almost ditched cable...but by the time I payed for PSVue, added the sports package, paid for high speed internet, etc....I wasn't saving very much over most bundle deals offered. All that considered, the cost savings didn't outweigh the PITA factor.

Maybe next cycle I'll pull the trigger.

Sling TV

We're happy with it. For $50 we have 90% of the live TV we watched with U-verse. Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HAD Antenna for local HD round out our set up.
