The Maldives smell like pure bliss
quote:
Prague - Onions

Istanbul - fish and kebabs.
Marrakech - orange blossoms and spices. (Unless you're in the wrong part of the medina - then it just smells like ****).
quote:
Gonzales- Chicken **** and oil
quote:I actually noticed it more when I was in town. Her dad ran some cattle which simply smells like home to me since my family raised cattle & horses.
Lived there long enough I got used to it. It still sucked. Probably didn't help that your ex's family house was only a few 100 yards from a chicken farm.
quote:
Albany, Oregon...the smell of wood pulp processing is disgusting.
quote:Too bad the paper mill isn't still around to dominate those smells.
Lufkin. Smells of meth and hopelessness.

I could smell Mumbai from 10k feet up

Mumbai doesn't have a distinctive smell. It has a multitude of very strong smells. Some wonderful. Most not.
It's a roller coaster for your nose.

Once you're around town for a day or two the scammers will stop bothering you because they know you're not stupid.
Unlike the Istanbul bazaar which is filled with Chinese junk, the Marrakesh souks are filled with goods made in and around Marrakesh.
There is a special artisan souk where the goods are of higher quality, made by artisan level craftsmen, and will quote you prices about 5% over final haggling price in the regular souk. Haggling there is frowned upon because they are actually quoting an accurate price (perhaps with a slight markup). It's called the Ensemble Artisanal Marrakesh.
Stay in a traditional Riad. We had 5 star accommodations with breakfast included for dirt cheap. Lots of Europeans go to Marrakesh to stay at big resorts. They're nice, but not in the city.
The cobra guys are the only unpleasant people in town. Because they were so pushy and unpleasant, I made it a point to try to capture good quality photos of their animals without paying them a cent.
