I'll 2nd Amarillo. I drove into Amarillo at night and knew we were close...We were 30 miles away.

Manila smells like a mixture of turds, body odor, rotten food, and smog. Lovely.

+1 on Manila. Literally seeing people dump their **** out "the window" into the water out of their shacks built over the water was disgusting as all hell.

Growing up, if I'd ***** about the smell driving they Luling, my dad would tell me that was the smell of money.

Istanbul - fish and kebabs.

Marrakech - orange blossoms and spices. (Unless you're in the wrong part of the medina - then it just smells like ****).

New York City usually smells like some combination of the following, mostly the first two:

Weslaco -- the sewage facility on the north side of town would waft a nasty smell over town when the wind blew from the north.

When the old TexSun plant was still there, they'd burn grapefruit peels a couple times a month. It smelled just as you'd imagine: sweet burnt grapefruit.

Oh, Weslaco....I don't miss you.

Amazingly enough, the areas outside of Manila are beautiful. Corregidor Island is in Manila Bay and has some nice beaches. My mom is from the Philippines so I've been there 4 times. Corregidor is one of the coolest places I've ever travelled to. I'm sure most of us are familiar with the picture of the 1946 Corregidor Muster with the make shift A&M flag over the tunnel. You can tour the tunnel and they have a video/audio show inside that tries to take you back in time, so to speak.

I'm hoping to go back next summer and take my kids.
