Just wondering? I guess when you are younger you tend to hear horror stories like that.

I was cleaning a bunch of old fence debris behind the house that my wife and I had recently rented. I stepped on a board that was covered by pine tree needles so I didn't see nails sticking up. When I stepped on it the nail went cleanly in between the bones in the 2nd & 3rd toes. Once I stepped on it I stepped down hard with my right artificial foot. It too than had other nails penetrate into the artificial foot. At that moment I was nailed to the same piece of wood and felt like a little green army man with both my feet stuck in place.

Haven't had the pleasure of a nail but did have a 3mm wide by 3in long splinter go straight through the middle of my big toe below the bone. Running barefoot on an old deck and stubbed my toe, the wood didn't take kindly to that and saw fit to present me with its gift of a splinter from hell.

Yep. Was about 16 helping demo a burned out building. Stumbled carrying some stuff out and hit a nail that went all the way through my for and the top of my boot. Oddly enough it really didn't hurt going in. Coming out was a different matter

Mine too. It hurt but not pee your pants hurt. Pulling my foot off was a different story!

My cousin was helping clean up and clear some things out of their house after a fire. She fell backwards and a very long nail pierced the back of her skull. I can't attest to how much it must have hurt, but I will never forget the look on her face and how eerily calm she was. Freakiest thing I have ever seen, but she made a full recovery.

Had the same thing happen, although it was more of a wooden spike than a splinter. Wasn't so bad going in, but hurt like hell when my friend's mom helped remove it. It broke in half in the process, so she has to cut open the wound more to get to the base of the spike. Good times

I was always current on tetanus shots as a child.

I was probably bout 11yo when I jumped on my friends mattress at a sleepover. It was the kind of jump onto the bed where you land on all fours. A spring broke and part of it punctured my shin and ran under the skin but above the bone for about an inch. I was basically pinned to the mattress bleeding like a stuck pig. A little monkey blood and a bandaid, and we were playing Madden 96 happily the rest of the evening.

No nail, but I had a great horned owl put its talon all the way through my hand. It was swollen nearly double by afternoon. Lots of antibiotics came my way.

I personally have never done that, however in middle school some work was being done at our school and a worker managed to nail his foot to the floor. This was around the same time a kid cut his thumb off in shop class, luckily doctors were able to reattach the severed thumb.

I stepped on a nail when I was a kid, dad and I were clearing the lot that the house was built on. It didn't go all the way through my foot but I do remember blood dripping out of the hole it put in the sole of my boot. The worse part was having to get the tetanus shot after the fact.

Not a nail but a mesquite thorn, ran it through the bottom of a soccer sandal through through my foot. Hurt like a mother effer pulling it out.

How about a three-pronged fishing hook? Does that count?

When I was 6 or 7, I was helping my Dad on a side job he had redoing a roof. The ONE board he had to replace was the one I stepped on and ran the 10 penny ring shank nail through my shoe out the top.

Worst part was waiting for him to climb down from the roof while telling me to not move, then watching him use some large cutters to cut the nail off just above my foot and then pulling my foot off the nail. At that point I was so freaked out, I didn't even feel it. A few shots and a couple of stitches later, I was all set. Sucked not being able to go to the pool for 4 weeks that summer though....

One of the last things I remember doing with my Grandpa before he started the downhill slide into demensia was cleaning off a fence line covered in mesquite.

I waded into a rather thick mott of trees and was busy cutting several larger limbs with the chainsaw. I cut one limb almost through and was going to step back and let gravity do some of the work for me when I saw him standing close behind me. I stopped backing up and hollered for him to step back. When he finally did, the limb was already coming down leaving me no where to go. At least I had time to shut off the chainsaw and sort of hunker down before it landed on me. It wasn't that big and I only had a few scratches and bruises.

A couple of weeks later I kept getting these random localized head aches and finally went to Beutel to have it checked out. Turns out I had a large mesquite needle lodged under the skin on my skull and it was infected. A minor incision and it was out.

Not a nail, *****ly pear cactus spine. I was 4 or 5 and we were camping in SW Colorado. We were setting up camp & stepped right on the thing. Spine went through my shoe & into my foot.

When I was a kid, a neighbor was replacing their fence. I was running across their lawn when I stepped on about a two foot piece of 2X4. As I lifted my foot, the board came with it and tripped me. I sat up and had to pull the board and nail out of my heel. It was probably in a bit more than an inch. I remember that the nail seemed so long and that my foot didn't bleed that much. I walked home and got a band-aid and went back out to play. I didn't tell my mom because I was worried that I would get in trouble.

Golf tee right in the middle of my bare foot. It wasn't long enough to go all the way through.

I was probably about 11 or 12 and my friend and I were playing in a neighbors arena. We spooked the horses and jumped up on the fence to get away from them. I jumped off the other side into the grass and landed on a board with a nail sticking up on it. Went right through my thin flip flop and completely into my foot. It go all the way through my foot though.

I had to get a tetanus shot and I got yelled at for spooking the horses.

Hurt like hell. A couple of weeks later, we were out playing in the pasture when a cow charged us. We ran and climbed a barbed wire fence. I snagged my leg on the fence and got about a 4 inch gouge on my thigh. I didn't tell my parents because I didn't want to get chewed out again, and I didn't want another shot. It healed with a pretty nasty scar big enough to be an identifying feature should my body ever turn up in a ditch.

Growing up in the country was fun!

Put a nail into the bottom of my right foot when I was about 5. Ball went over fence into construction site and climbed over to get it. Stepped on a board and the nail went into the middle of my foot. I had to climb back over the fence then dad carried me home. Mom cleaned it with some rubbing alcohol and put on some Neosporin and a band aid.

One of these a went all the way through the ball of my foot a few years ago at work (I'm the office manager at my dad's roofing company). I was taking trash out to the dumpster and it was laying point up in the parking lot. I was at there alone and couldn't get a hold of anyone, so I was like an idiot crying in the parking lot trying to hobble back inside (I don't deal with pain well). My dad finally called and told me to just pull it out, which was much easier said than done. Of course he's stepped on tons of nails and thought I was just being a big baby. It ruined one of my favorite pairs of shoes and I still get twinges of pain every once in awhile. Now when I walk through the warehouse and parking lot I stare at the ground, so I'm sure I'll probably crash head first into something one of these days.

Years later when I had my right foot amputated (symes ) I pulled a surgical steel pin 11 inches long out of my stump the day before the doc was supposed to.

I have had so many pins pulled out I have anxiety about them. Half the time a doc pulls them it out it hurts beyond adequate description. So I was told this pin was about 3in long. No to big......I was a bit freaked out when I had 7" of pin protruding out of my stump. I took an extra dose of vicadon and waited for the pills to kick in. Once they did I took a deep breath and gave one yank and pulled it the rest of the way out.
