In 1956 the Ring Committee approved a design change to the ring to add the raised rim around the crest in order to give more protection from wear. Rings dated '56 and earlier wore smooth quickly, i.e., mine was smooth by 35 years. Yours should be readable until your 50th. I rarely took mine off my finger.

The dimples on the bottom of the Aggie ring are tsip a--holes

My 9th grade History teacher played soccer for A&M and was the first person I knew that was an Aggie. She told us that the bottom of the ring was elephant skin...

My class year reads the same both ways (69). Only 88, 96, 00, and 11 can do that.

Before 1997, the rings were made in two parts: the crest (top with year) and the shank (bottom, round part). The rings were soldered together after being made separately. The solder can react with some chemicals, most often with chlorine in water, causing the top part to become discolored. Balfour fixes this, and the solution they came up with was to make the ring in one part.

I got mine when they were still the 2-parters and I get a nasty "Ring around the Ring Crest" if I don't clean it every so often, I also have a NASTY ding in the bottom of mine, if I could stand being without it long enough I'd probably send it back to Balfour to get a new single piece ring, but part of me thinks it's "Old Army" to have the 2-parter.

Plus I just don't know if I could live with myself for sending my original ring back that I've had this long for a 'fresh' one.
