I think that's exactly what they were talking about, which is why earlier in the thread I said that Vidor != Jasper

there is a common history. it's not fair but there it is.

I also don't think it's fair to characterize people from Jasper because of that incident. I'm pretty sure there are some good people, quite a few actually, from there that aren't racist.

I went to vidor all the time as a kid and teenager and never saw those signs, although i heard about them.

Santa fe, TX is (or was. Havent been back there since the 90s) just as bad. When we would play football games in their little sh**hole stadium, they would call us mud people, including us white people. They had a problem with us too bc we all were friends. then our team would promptly stomp the **** out of them. God i hated santa fe.

Oddly enough i deleted the part i wrote about his house before i posted. Its a big house with stone gargoyles everywhere that has "the dragon's den" or lair or something on the wrought iron fence that surrounded it. I grew up here. The big local hangout here when I was a kid was the Casa Ole. Really there is nothing to do in this town. Stay in Beaumont instead.

The KKK from Cleveland, TX use to occasionally hold protests (of what? I don't know) on the side of the road in North Vidor. I don't believe there is a KKK group in Vidor. They all come from out-of-town.

When I moved to SE Texas 22 years ago, the Klan had a Christmas sale where they set up at the WalMart in Vidor and sold their propaganda items. They had a little statue of a klansman in a red robe and red hood and called it KlanaKlaus. Saw the same table of junk set up a few weeks later on my way to Aggieland set up in Cut and Shoot.

BTW, the stuff that happened in Jasper was a tragedy, but you can thank the media for painting Jasper (and most of SETx as being redneck racist.

KKK used to hold rallies at the courthouse in Orange because it was the county courthouse. It always caused some tension.

Yeah. I just remember there was some speculation as to whether it really was. Timing was weird.
