.... The Bible that is...

How many of you would consider yourself a "Bible Beater", or how do you feel about those that are clearly "Bible Beaters"?

For the longest time I used to shy away from them due to my lack of Biblical knowlege and lack of religion, but now, they dont intimidate me as much. I am still fairly opposed to people that PUSH their beliefs really hard, mainly because in doing so, they push people away.

Word of advice:

Don't date one unless you are one or want to be one. It got crazy at times.

i dont enjoy bible beaters in the sense of someone forcing their opinions or beliefs on me.

that being said, i genuinely enjoy a good theologic (is that a word?) conversation.

i am firm in my beliefs and convictions, so i am not afraid of discussing different views with others.

you never learn unless you listen.

Yes. Although I have not always been that way. It wasn't until just recently that I came to Christ and confronted all of my sins. Now I am very strong in my faith and I pray that many others can make the turn around that I have.

I never want to be the one to change someone's mind. Only God can make that light go off. It's not my responsibility to thump people & coerce. It's between them & God.

But it is the responsibility of a Christian to bring these people the Word of God. If they are unwilling to hear it, well, then there is nothing you can do. If every Christian just said "Well, its not my job to minister to them" then the Word would never be spread. Some people just need a little guidance.

Actually, that is not what the Bible says. Jesus commands his followers to go out and spread the word to those who have not heard it. God says it IS your responsiblity.

That being said, I am not the perfect Christian. I do not share my religious views with others.

God? Who is this 'God' person you speak of?

Spreading it to those who haven't heard it, is very different from forcing it and pushing it on someone.

So if I believe wholeheartidly in the Bible, try to live as it tells me to live and try to spread the Word of God to other people, that makes me a Bible beater? If so, then I am proud to be a Bible beater.

How come it is that we feel it is perfectly ok to use a demeaning and pejorative appellation like Bible-Beater, while at the same time no one on this board would think of saying N*****, or Wet****, or K*ke, Spi**, or Crac***, or Slant***, or W*p, or Chin*. Or any number of other offensive epitaphs. Just a bit hypocritical isn't it?

OceanState, yes it is. I was not saying that it wasn't.

Padfoot, if you are asking why I don't voice my religion - I voice it to people who I feel comfortable talking about it with - however, for me, my relationship with God is a very personal thing - not something I can just throw around. I spread my faith through other ways, such as doing good and setting an example for those around me. I tell people that I will pray for them and do - and they reflect my faith in God.

Postal - what Blauser means is that our job is to present the facts. Becoming a Christian is a personal decision between a person and God. We should not get in the way of that or think of ourselves as the "reason" someone gets saved.

Postal, I wish you could have heard a sermon our pastor gave a few weeks ago. It was about coming out of your comfort zone and ministering to people you do not know.

It was extremely helpful and insightful. Sometimes you have to just step out of that zone and venture out. I cannot think of anything more rewarding to see a non believer you have ministered to come to Christ. It is truly the most wonderful thing I have ever witnessed.

Let me clarify: I believe that everyone's situation with God is personal. Maybe someone had a wonderful relationship with God and something happened to them that caused them to sway. Me jumping in and ministering to them is not what they need.

Here's how I handle situations with those I do not know. For example, a woman in my office is having a difficult time with her sister not contacting her - they've fought for years. I went to this lady and told her I would pray for her and for her sister that God would put their relationship on the right path. She was amazed that someone would pray for someone they hardly knew - that is my way of spreading the Word - one way, anyway.
I spread my faith through my actions. Not just words.

Okay, I am tired of hiding behind usernames. No more Padfoot, Computer Nerd, Bobby V or whatever other names I have used. This is who I am. I am a Christian who has made many mistakes in his life before coming to Christ. If certain posters on here wanna bring up past things that is none of their business, so be it. I don't consider myself one, but I will get in your face if you espouse beliefs here that are not with God. I consider it a well timed reality check for your own good.
