I want to make steak fajitas for dinner but don't have time to marinade the meat for hours on end since it's already 5pm here, and I'm in Ohio, so good fajita restaurants are kinda hard to come by.

So among grocery store type fajita spice packets, what's the best tasting one that widely available?

Posted here because GB gets way more traffic than food board.

make your own. Use chili powder, garlic powder, ground cayenne pepper, salt, black and white pepper, paprika, some ground basil, cilantro, cinnamon, and a bit of parsly sage, rosemary and thyme. Cook on high till black. Smother in Franks Red Hot or Louisiana brand red pepper sauce.

Just mix whatever you have in the fridge and marinate for a day. I hate folks that over think fajitas. It's fajitas not beef wellington.

Do this:
Squeeze fresh limes over skirt steaks
Dust with fiesta brand fajita seasoning
Drink a few beers while you wait on the coals to get right

EagleFordEarl, it's amazing how long you can stretch out the "waiting for the coals to be ready" step. At least 3-4 beers in some cases...

Marinate in Dr. Pepper, and a splash of lime juice, add salt, pepper, garlic and a dash of cumin and chili powder

Marinate it for as long as you can (even an hour works esp with chicken) and grill. Fajitas are easy.

Bolner's (aka Fiesta Brand)

eot

I have a fairly complex marinade I'll often use, but like the pervert said, dusting with Bolner's and squeezing lime over it as it cooks will get satisfactory results.

I'll put my name in for Bolner's too. Plus it's an Aggie owned company here in San Antonio.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My fajitas were delicious.

I ended up going with a standard, relatively bland mix, because it's all I could find at the small grocery store nearby, and I didn't feel like driving the extra distance at rush hour to get to a bigger store that would have stuff from Texas.

So I doctored the bland stuff up with cayenne pepper, a fresh jalapeno, and used good fresh peppers and onion, along with some fantastic beef from the local butcher shop, and the result was pretty damn good.

Also, a special thanks to all y'all who presumably read the OP that said I had no time to marinate, and still saw fit to tell me to marinate the meat for extended periods of time.
