I just heard it this morning and thought I had been switched to an 80's station. Catchy little tune.

i don't know what this word is and have never needed to pronounce it

Well it's a French name so I'd go with what Louisiana says.

And Mississippi says go-shay

Gautier is my grandmother's maiden name, and English was her second language, since she was from Quebec. Or so my mom tells me (English is her second language also, being from about an hour north of Paris).

right but Louisiana also pronounces Chartres as "Charter."

Nai's right. My dad (it is his parents who were Canadian) grew up speaking French and English, as well a combination we jokingly call "Franglais." He can understand folks in Louisiana a whole lot easier than my mom, who is French. She can't understand them at all.
