course, this is the same sorority that fined their members last year if they went to Muster & not their weekly Sunday meeting.

I thought that their weekly meetings were on Mondays?

If Breakaway affects attendence, it should be moved back or rescheduled. Maybe it has changed, but from what I remember in the mid-90's, Breakaway was always "finishing up" and people were still leaving and chatting while other Aggies solemnly assembled *in silence* for Silver Taps. I don't think rescheduling 8 times a year should be a big deal. Then again, maybe that 15 minutes early thing works now.

Okay... here're my two cents...

Greek orgs should schedule around things like Silver Taps, Muster, etc. Duh!

The above referenced entity is a SORORITY. That's different from a FRATERNITY in that it's composed of all girls. Let's be accurate when ridiculing an entity.

I would be willing to bet that many Kappa's also skipped their own crush party because it was during silver taps. Very few people are actually invovled in PLANNING the events, and it's not the fault of all 200 (or so) girls that are part of the organization

actually, most sororities are techincally fraternities. The name sorority didn't come along til the 60s or so.

94DallasAg - umm... sports teams are under obligations to compete according to schedules outside of the school's control. Regardless, the "other people do it" excuse is a weak defense when a group is clearly in the wrong. How many would buy the line "Hey, other schools boo their own team, so I guess it's ok if Aggies do it too."?

-EAD- - Aggie First is an organization, but it's also a slogan. There were always glossy brochures with the slogan on the cover in the greek organization offices in Koldus, and up at the front of StuAct.

Some of you people need to realize that there are more important things in life than pointing out how other people and organizations are "bad Aggies"

I think that the same can be said about 90% of what's on this board.

I heard one of the Kappas actually brought a gun to the protest the other night and pointed it at the protestors!

Seriously guys, if your life consists of pointing out other people's believed shortcomings, then you really need to get a life.

A&M has a big say in those schedules. I wasn't condeining their actions, just stating that not everyone can conform to a perfect schedule.

Good point hammie.

Lets just rid ourselves of all the Greeks and we will be much better off. After all, this time is was KKG, but it has been a diff Greek Group before and it will be a different one next time. To act like this was a Sorority that messed up and it is the only one to do so is stupid. Rid our school of this plague.

Your right, we should not spend our time pointing out the bad Aggies, because the Greeks do a good enough job of pointing themselves out.

Yes Aggie99, let's rid ourselves of these people. After all, they aren't Aggies are they? IF this is the way you feel then why the hell should you (or anyone bashing Greeks) give a damn whether they attend Silver Taps, or Muster, or some other Aggie function? After all, they aren't Aggies are they?

Breakaway usually ends around 10:15, but they always make it a point to end at 10 PM on Silver Taps nights.
Then why was Breakaway even brought up in this thread?

One time a couple of years ago they were having Breakaway at Olsen Field because Reed was booked, and so you could hear the music at the Academic Building. I think they went a little after 10 PM and I believe they also apologized for it.

That was awesome. Of course, half the sorority girls who read it won't pick up on the sarcasm.

"So, like, I know ! It is hard to schedule all these social events! Like, what is Silver Taps? Some sort of, like, dance show? Oh...mah...God."

Instead of being a classless jerk by insulting the girl who paid for his invitation in the newspaper, why didn't he call Kappa exec and point out their oversight and then provide possible solutions? Although it would have been too late to do anything about rescheduling due to money and contracts with vendors, they might have been able to do something like provide busses straight from campus or something along those lines. Parties are scheduled semesters in advance and when it is only two or three people planning the calendar, it is very easy to forget about things like Silver Taps, even if you do know that it's the first Tuesday of the month.
The people who go to Silver Taps are going to be there whether there is a crush party or not. The people who are not going to be at Silver Taps are not going to be there whether there is a crush party or not. So why don't you call every single person who was not at Silver Taps that night, whether they were studying for a test, attending a crush party or didn't feel like getting out in the cold, a bad Aggie and slam them in the newspaper?

Aggie's first, is a slogan to promote the entire greek system. It's a Greek Life slogan, not any individual chapters. And, once a year, every greek memember is given the chance to go to the "Aggie's First" meeting in Rudder. It's a completely voluntary thing.

Also, I'm very interested in something. Everyone's who posted DID go to silver taps on Tuesday? correct? and, none of you have missed a single one while being a student at Texas A&M, right? I'm SURE that's the case. Especially for those of us who have lived off campus.

Have you seen the front page of The Batt today? It seems like there is one organization that is extremely good at pointing themselves out.

Probably because this is a topic on which we're never going to agree. This debate has been done many times on here, and no one is going to change their mind.

christi...did you attend every silver taps, during your A&M career? That's all I'm asking.
Christi '97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No, I didn't, but I attended as many as possible. Please show me where on this thread I bashed Greeks. I think that the author of the letter had a good point, and that it applies to more than just SORORITY MEMBERS.

I am well aware of what you asked. I was simply trying to explain why no one answered you; this topic gets old. Go dig up some old threads on it; there are many.

Yes, to answer your question, I did attend every single Silver Taps Ceremony during my Undergrad Years at Texas A&M.

And to respond to why I care if Greeks attend Silver Taps or not....its because if they are not going to at least try and act like Aggies, then they need to get the hell outta College Station and go to school somewhere else.

And as for the bitter commment....I went to several Crush parties during my years at A&M. More specifically they were mostly for Chi-O and Theta. But more importantly, they never got in my way of going to Silver Taps. Because if I had to choose, and sometimes I did, I always chose Silver Taps.
agjeni04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
awww, Christi just called me a SB...wasn't that sweet.

I think Matt wanted to get back at the girl who crushed him to the party. We pay money to crush people.... Our parties...they're expensive...and, he knows that. He was being a jerk...to her, mostly. Yes, the crush party had ill timing...but, their biggest flaw, was a jerky guest list...if you ask me. There were other ways to let Kappa know he was disappointed.

And, if this were last year...he would NOT have written that letter...because, sororities...we're so anti-aggies...that we actually vote...and since he can't run for yell leader this year...he figured he'd get a shot in.
Christi '97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I admit, I should have used a better term, so I edited.

I think he simply wrote the letter to point out that it's crappy to schedule an event on the same night as Silver Taps. Not everyone is vindictive.
