I can't believe this. I forgot to mention this but last weekend when we were Killeen, my friends told me about "Daiquiri Express." ...they joked about going there, and I asked what it was.

It's a drive thru alcohol place where you can get Daiquiri's!! ...for pete's sake, promote drinking and driving. They put tape over the place you sip to justify it. ...but it's given in a cup so it's ready to drink right after work.

How is it any different from walking into a convenience store and buying a 6 pack? It's not like there is some kind of mechanism to prevent you from opening a can of beer until you step into your house.

Oh, I didn't know...

It's the first I've heard of one.

Edit: I've never been to Northgate or any of the bars/clubs in town. I guess that's why it surprised me to hear they'd make a store like that.

They used to have those all over, they were called "Beverage Barns". Wasn't there one on Texas? It's a new law (last 4 or 5 years) that drinking and driving at the same time was prohibited.

It's possible to drink without getting drunk, and it can still be illegal to drive drunk without prohibiting doing both together. It was called drinking responsibly.

You're on your way home from work. You stop at the corner store for a 6 pack. You're minutes from the house, why not crack the first one open?

You're having friends over to watch the game. All you have is Bud Light, when one of your guests asks for Miller Lite. You're a nice guy and you want them to be happy, even if they are picky... You take your beer (your first) and run up to the corner to get some Lite.

Why should these be illegal?

"Because drinking and driving can LEAD to drunk driving?"

Well, holding hands and kissing can LEAD to intercourse, but kissing and holding hands aren't illegal for a 21-year-old guy and a 17-year-old girl...

that is some of the most back-assed ways of thinking I have seen or heard coming from an individual.

Maybe you would change your mind if you lost your sister/brother in a drunk driving accident. The man who killed my brother-in-law didn't feel a thing - if he'd had one more drink that day he would have killed himself before killing my future brother-in-law.

All TX AG 88 is saying is that there is no real difference between drinking one beer before driving and drinking one beer while driving. Normally I would agree that just because somebody might do something illegal isn't reason for arrest. But by driving on a public road, the state has every right to set the threshold they deem to be in the public's best interest. Although roads might not be any safer because of the law, I have no reason to believe that they would be any safer without it. It's not really a right to be able to throw back a beer while driving.

Yummy, Double quick! I feel the need for an igloo this week. Hell, it sure makes class go by quick when you have one of those little bad boys.

you are correct, they had frozen drinks and beer and you could drive through and pick up a keg as well. That was a great place.

And yall say 03ers are dumb and naive!

I'm from a semi-dry town (i.e. can't open a liquor store there, grocery stores can't sell wine, Chili's is the only restraunt you can buy a drink in and you must have a permit to buy a drink there, etc.) and even we have had a Beverage Barn for the past 20 years.

I've been there, Cutie.

They get away with it due to the lids and straws....I think.

They weren't very good, though.

The nearest place I can buy beer is in Oklahoma. It is actually closer for me to drive to Kansas to buy beer than to the nearest place in Texas.

Taco Cabana used to sell Margaritas through the drive-thru - I don't know if they do that anymore though.
