1.) You're only required to put the cue ball behind the break line and aim forward if someone scratches ON THE BREAK. All other scratches are ball in hand scratches, which means you can put the ball anywhere, and shoot in any direction.

2.) Its a scratch if you don't hit your own ball type first, if you jump the ball off the table, if you dont hit any balls at all, or if none of your balls nor the cue ball makes contact with the wall. Pocketing the cue ball isnt the only way to scratch.

3.) The game is not over if someone scratches while shooting at the 8 ball, unless they scratch while simultaneously POCKETING the 8 ball.

4.) If you don't knock at least 4 balls into the wall on your break (or pocket at least 1), I can call a misbreak.

If you play by stupid house rules and insist that people who know the actual rules use your dumb rules, then please find a different hobby. Thanks.

You need to effing sack up and realize theres a difference between league and bar rules.

It's a beyotch move to cry about people who don't know BCA and if you are playing Joe Dumbass on whatever crappy table at whatever loser bar you go to, you should be able to beat them with whatever rules they think are fair.

The problem with house rules is that they're all retarded. They lead to punks taking "defensive" shots that require no skill. There's nothing "fun" about someone scratching on purpose when the 8 ball is behind the break line, and then insisting that you bank the ball off the far wall before hitting the 8. Imagine their surprise when I make the shot anyway, and then hit them in the nuts with my pool stick for being a ******-nozzle.

I do agree that BCA rules are interesting and fun to play.

But I have the most fun taking money from from those wound a little too tight, as well as, take themselves and their abilities a little too seriously.

I dont play Joe dumbass at the bar. I play with my friends who actually know the rules. Then Joe dumbass will interrupt us and call "next", and leave me with with the dilemma of either playing a game of middle school pool with him, or telling him to buzz off.

BTW, Costa Rican rules are interesting. While playing 8ball you must sink the 1 ball in the left hand middle pocket and the 15 in the right hand middle. If you sink it anywhere else and you foul and the ball is spotted. Adds a little different element to the game is actually pretty fun.

Maybe you should take up drinking while you play. It might mellow you out some.

Those were part of the standard rules at my house while I was growing up.

Also, if you stand around in a bar chalking your stick by placing the entire chalk over your stick, instead of using the edges (this doesnt apply if theres literally no chalk on the stick at all), you're basically begging me to come take your money.

While in College Station I used to play in local the league. The guys in my group including my self did it to have fun and messed around a lot. Not slowing up the game but just joking around, laughing and enjoying ourselves. I can't tell you the number of people that would get mad at us for not taking the game seriously. They would then get even madder when we whipped the floor with them.

My attempts to "explain" the rules are usually met with resistances, denial, and anecdotes about how they've been using their own set of sheety rules for the last 15 years.

I have a good friend the grew up in Costa Rica and came to the US when he was 26. I had never played or even heard of those rules until he said he wanted to play like they do "back home." I thought it was fun but no way could you get some bar room players to go for it.

How would you respond if you were playing pickup basketball, and your opponent claimed he had made a 4 point shot?

Just agree on some rules before the game and go with them. That's how reasonable people do it.

If someone requests house rules before the game starts, I'm open to it. But if nobody says anything before the break, I just naturally assume we're going to be playing by the actual rules.
