And while I'm at it, you're also an idiot if you believe any of the following:

-That ring around the rosie is a song about the black death
-That coca cola artists popularized the modern image of santa clause
-That visine eye drops induce the runs

I'm think that the OP had his money taken from him by a redneck.
BCA rules are an equalizer and it's tougher to go from that to bar room rules than it is the other way around.

What if we were playing baseball, and I insisted that if you hit the ball less than 30 feet, you must hopscotch to first base rather than run? Would you do it anyway despite it being a totally made up rule?

Also, I embrace the genocide of spades players who think they can pass 1 card on a blind nil even if they aren't down 200 points. The correct way to play is either no pass (this is how real men play), or else 2 card pass, but only if you're down 200 points

Wow. I never knew there was a "THAT GUY" in pool. Now i do.

I bet he also calls and/or tires to pick up the 'charge' in pick-up basketball.

Nope, not kidding. I assume that most of you play the vast majority of games by the officially designated rules. Why is pool an exception?

(And as a sidenote, why is Monopoly an exception. No, you dont get money for landing on free parking)

I hear ya Mavs fan. I hate it when someone tries to challenge me and my two friends to a game of 3 on 3 at the rec....

I HAVE to tell them "We can't play without 5 players on each team! It's in the Rules. And we need 3 refs as well, and there must be an official "jump ball", and a timekeeper, and I'm fairly certain these balls aren't regulation size and weight, and the NBA rules say you can't wear low-top sneakers...."

I can never understand why I always end up bloody and crying in the corner by myself. I'm just trying to play by the rules....

Because most people have NEVER even heard of the BCA. How are they supposed to follow rules they have never heard of. They are playing the way they grew up playing. Bar-rules are just different..period, end of story.

01:

actually you can, but your opponent can swat the ball away if you try and bounce. With that in mind, bouncing is only a viable strategy if you can distract your opponent (for instance, claiming that the chick he has a crush on is standing behind him topless)

super, that's a really poor analogy. Bar rules are literally counter intuitive. Nobody should get rewarded for being a poon and scratching on purpose to set their opponent up for an impossible shot.

Perhaps a better analogy would be this. If I foul you in a game of basketball, you have to take a free throw from the OPPOSITE end of the court rather than from your own free throw line.

i bet you never play "bank to win" or "last pocket" either. you're probably a crappy pool player that just likes to complain.

"these aren't the rules"
"the table is uneven"
"this isn't my stick"
"i worked out today"
"you were talking during my shot."

Rules are the foundation for the game. Without observance of them, you dont have a game at all.

APA rules state that you continue shooting as long as you strike the cue ball first and pocket any other ball other than the cue. you're "getting rewarded for being a poon."

generally accepted "official rules" have some discrepancies, as well. if you think BCA is definitive, then you obviously don't play in halls much.

Pretty simple answer actually...just tell them to buzz off. If you think they are going to pose this sort of dilemma, then is it actually worth playing them?

Derek, are you illiterate by chance?

THESE ARE THE ONLY FOULS RESULTING IN
BALL-IN-HAND:

b. Failure to hit your object ball first. (A player who is
shooting stripes must hit a striped ball first.)

you're erecting straw men with that statement.

we're not advocating playing by made-up rules. just other generally accepted rules sets.

I didn't say you were (hopscotch baseball that is), that's why I posed it as a hypothetical.

This is actually entertaining. I want to say "Take it to the 'I'm a pool dork thread'", but it's funny, anticipating what coming up next.

just wondering...do you call '3-seconds' in a pick-up game? I think i know the answer.

if the rule you're referring to is what happens after someone aims at the wrong ballset, then your post doesn't make any sense. Hitting in the wrong ball helps your opponent, it doesn't hurt them.
