A theory often thrown around the many college campuses where Keystone thrives as a cheap but drinkable party beer holds that cans of Keystone Light are simply relabeled Coors Light cans that have been found to be damaged in the manufacturing process.

Many amateur tests have shown that the vast majority of Keystone Light 12oz. cans do contain flaws while in comparison, the majority of 12oz Coors Light cans do not.[citation needed] Many also point to the similarities in beer taste, can shape, and inner liner as evidence that this theory may be true. [1]

Given that the cans would have to be printed before they are filled, however, this is generally written off as an urban legend, and there is very little hard evidence that would suggest otherwise. For their part, Coors Brewing Company states that Keystone and Coors have separate brewing processes, so there is absolutely no validity to this rumor.

its gotta be true...

They could put the same beer into both cans and 90% of the drinking public wouldn't know the difference.

Keystone and Coors taste nothing alike. If you think they do, you need to drink more.

Had an ECON prof that told the entire class that he had a buddy that ran the Coors brewery in Golden, CO. He told us that the beers were exactly the same. They are packaged differently to target different socio-economic groups in the population.

Whether it is true or not, I don't know, but my prof. DID tell our class that.

There is definitely a flavor difference between the two beers? They do taste similar, but not the same. They both suck and that is all I need to know.

i read some where that coors light and keystone light come out of the same container, but the top 60% is packaged as coors light, and the bottom 40% is packaged as keystone light.

I can definately say I drank a ton of keystone light when it was $8.99 a 30 pack. For a poor college student, quantity is often times the bigger factor over quality.

I toured the Miller brewery in Milwaukee late 90s. A guy in our group asked if OMB was what they had left over after they brewed the “premium” beers. The guide explained that the “cheaper” beers were made from corn grains while the more expensive beers used rice, therefore the price difference.

Not sure if this is true, but it was the story the guide was selling.

I heard the same thing that La Fours did...

I have also toured the Coors Brewery a few years back, so that may have been where I heard it...
