Got a little story for Ya Ags...

Yes Ags I admit I fell for it. All the warnings on this Ticket Exchange section were there. I just didn't read them first, nor heed them.

Y'all do a great job of sharing information when you get scammed, but I still had a belief I was texting with an Aggie to buy tickets to games this past weekend. I wasn't.

I knew it was a possibility but I'll accept my failures and maybe just report a crime to the police in my city and in the scammer thief's too.

However, I don't ever want Jerry Stalter (yes he used his actual name when texting me) at bgju557@gmail.com (the email I sent money to through Zelle) to scam any of you. He doesn't even live in Texas, he lives in Columbia City, Indiana.

He text contacts you from a burner phone (979) 261-4329. The text even sound like an Aggie, opening with Howdy! He must have read that somewhere or has gotten better on how to communicate with Aggies as he's scammed, or tried to scam others before me.

He somehow has screenshot photos of tickets with 12th Man logos at the top for the games you will list in this forum as WTB. I personally haven't figured out how he gets the photos because they were not seats available on Seat Geek, Stub Hub, or Vivid Seats and I'm sure he's not a member of the 12th Man Association.

Then if you make the mistake, like me, and offer to pay for a product with Zelle he commits fraud and fails to deliver the tickets you contracted for. It's theft plain and simple.

How can you help stop this guy?

If you want, you can all flood his email at bgjur557@gmail.com and tell him to refund the $240 he stole last week for baseball tickets from an Aggie or you can just pound him with Zelle Requests for money using bgjur557@gmail.com - Everybody just request $240 over and over and over.

If some good current student gets the $240 refunded to you via Zelle and replies to this thread I'll let you keep it. I'd rather give my $240 cash to any student who is honest and needs it than this thief!

If you want to Google him it's easy enough right. He gave me his name and email. His photo on his Gmail profile matches his photos in his social media. You will find his facebook and LinkedIn accounts are public:

https://www.facebook.com/jerry.stalter
https://www.linkedin.com/in/jerry-stalter-8766a2b7/

Enough from me. I hate that people like this are on this forum stealing money from good Ags who are just trying to exchange tickets for games they can't attend with some student or former student who has earned their money in an honest way. This space is for Aggies to get tickets fairly to go support our student athlete teams. End of story.

I've been absolutely bombarded by texts from scammers recently every time I look for tickets on here. It's getting out of control.

You have his LinkedIn? If you're 100% sure it's him…
I'd call the place he works and give them the low down.

Then I'd call the local police? And try to file a claim of theft.

I would make 100% sure that's him and it wasn't someone using his identity.

He tried to scam me with tickets for the basketball game Saturday. 2 tickets for $120 each, or $240. I just wondered how he got my phone number, and left it alone. Didn't want to pay that much anyway.
But how did he get my phone number?

Sounds like you tried to protect yourself and still got had...If they went to all the trouble to have a burner phone, must be professionals....
Please know we are not all scammers! We get home basketball and baseball tickets for past few years and in the past have given them away to friends and family.
Have two kiddos that play select ball, show cows, pigs, plays tennis, and generally keep us too busy...so at times we have WTS on TexAgs. This was met with a lot of push back at first...Rookie, didn't have AgTag (do know after they found my information from 1980s)! We even gave away our Texas basketball tickets(we were at Ag wedding) and told the person that he could donate a minimal amount after they got into Reed, (he was told on this forum to beware, stay away, new account, no AgTag)...which they did. And we won! So that was a win -win!
I totally understand being cautious! Wife scammed on Venmo for non existent dog. Great question this past week when looking to WTS Tennessee tickets. How do I prove I am not a scammer? Gave the Ag lots of personal info regarding both parents graduated for ATM, little bit about my education at ATM...and still hesitant...And after seeing this post, I can't blame him. He mentioned PayPal having buyers protection, so that may be the way to go as far as buying...SURE hope he gets what is coming to him! Again, sorry it happened and know everyone is not a scammer.
Now let's beat those MSU Bulldogs tonight!

Have them post on your ticket thread after you ask them to post from text message to ensure you know their username. Don't let them use another persons post and their user name, they must post on your thread after you ask them on phone. After they post, just look at posting history. If they have a LONG posting history here along with posts in other areas besides ticket exchange, you are good. Also, never pay for all tickets at once. Get one ticket at a time if necessary and it would limit amount they can steal. Sorry that someone stole from you. Wish we could have a "verfied" seller on this site to help keep people from getting scammed.

I think if you send money through Paypal....if you use "pay for goods and services" (for a fee)...you can get your money back. I have heard this...I have never done it.

Can Zelle claw any money back....or can you at least report him to Zelle as a scammer?

This is a good tip, Jim, and something I try to do, too. Trust but verify, and if it seems too good to be true or is suspicious in anyway, then it's most likely a scam.

Scammers love to target the higher profile games, as we're all human and more likely to make a rash decision when we are emotionally invested. Scammers know this and prey on it. I've seen it repeatedly when posting, especially a WTB post; and yeah, they definitely know how to find your phone number and email by going back through your previous posts, and they will, because this is their M.O., their schtick. Professional scammers, if you will, preying on Aggies who do not lie, cheat, or steal. We're easy prey because of that inherent trust and belief that all others who are on here are good people, but that is exactly why there are so many scammers here.

I ultimately decided it was worth paying for the subscription upgrade to PM directly and only deal with those with AgTags.* Plug to the TexAgs subscription benefit that isn't explicitly mentioned, but when it opens you up to other chat channel options that naturally gives the Ol' Ags with the primo seats confidence that you're legit… which helped me to land two different club seats for the A&M - t.u. football game at what could be considered face value (~$500 each), basically, yet they could've sold for over $3K each, if they wanted to turn a nice profit and sell at market value to the highest bidder. Either one of those two club seat transactions paid for a lifetime subscription (and then some) for a premium accountwhich I created that same day due to my frustrations of dealing on the open forum. (Of course, as we all know, I had to look away at times during that game! )

*(Word of caution that I've even had a potential scam from someone *with* an AgTag, which was shocking. I reported their account to the administrators, to verify.)

But remember, not all non-AgTaggers are scammers. And not all non-AgTaggers are not Aggies. They may just not be tagged yet.

This! I ask people to look me up on the AFS Find an Aggie section and verify my years as donor and what tier. If they are an Ag they will have access to see the info as I have it set to Aggies only.

Facts. There are a few great trustworthy non-Ag tag folks on here that I've bought from before, too. Looking at posting history is a good way to assess how often they're on here and find mentions of endorsements from other Ags who have bought or sold with them.

It's also a good idea to just pick up the phone and actually talk to each other. I have several icons (badges) and a long varied posting history, but to newer buys that doesn't mean much to them. I recently had a call from a lady who was nervous about buying from me and after we talked about my kids who graduated from A&M and what they majored in, she felt like I was telling the truth. We also talked about the dorms our kids lived and other campus buildings (MSC, the old G Rollie, & Mays Biz School, etc) It was a conversation that 99.9% of scammers wouldn't have been able to have. It's all a good idea (as others have said to get them to comment on your post). I've also sent one ticket to someone first (before she paid) to prove I wasn't a scammer. Scammers aren't typically buyers. They are almost alway sellers! Good luck and BTHO Scammers! .
