Any win or overtime result against Germany will seed the US at 2D, which means we would avoid our Hat until the gold medal game. Win in regulation and run up the score and we have an outside chance at the top seed, but that will be difficult as the tiebreaker is goal differential (Canada is already up by 2, and their next game is against a French team that doesn't have a pulse; Canada could win by 10 goals.)

We went to short track today and the US did not do well. But the Dutch won again. Weirdly they're not dominant in regular speed skating anymore; much better at this.

Still, this is one of the best sports out there. It's so volatile the random with the crashes and dqs and speed. A Latvian who was advanced to the final after having a Canadian dude take him out in the semis, rode out a lot of danger to win bronze. It was fun.

Only bad part is that we were sitting next to the apparent family of the one of the Chinese Short trackers and he fell in the semi finals. One relative lady let out a yelp so deep it hurt us on a human level. All the world championships, all the events, and all the work. Gone in a snap of a finger. See you in 4 years. Every sport here is brutal. On more than just the person competing.

In Milan the echoes of Lucas Pinehiero's giant slolam win in Borneo reverberated. The first ever medal for the entire continent and the Brazilians celebrated like it. Flags everywhere, their house had hours long line to enter. It's the weekend, I guess, so it feels like there's 4x as many people here in general. But the spirit is high and energy amazing.

Final day tomorrow for us. Finishing with pairs figure skating.

Currently in 7th, a second back of the leader, Brignone of Italy.

She made it down the hill, get another clean run and it bodes well for her slalom medal chances. Also being just a second back still leaves her in medal contention for giant slalom.

America's Hat finally picks up a gold medal.

The silver medal guy probably had the most fun flying halfway down the last leg after missing the ramp

Klaebo of Norway with a 12 second lead on the field as he starts the anchor leg of the men's 4 x 7.5 km relay.

This victory, all but assured, will give him the all time lead in Winter Olympics golds.

Highly entertaining giant slalom race, with Federica Brignone of Italy wining her 2nd gold medal of the Games and Norwegian and Swedish skiers tying for silver!

7th gold for the home nation.

Italy will pick up yet another gold medal in women's biathlon, now leads the USA by 3 golds.

They will not catch Norway, but will have already set their all time record for the Winter Games with 7 days of competition to go.

They only had 2 throughout the previous Olympics in Beijing. I'm not sure I understand why the home field advantage matters as much as it seems that it does.

I think they massively choked in Beijing... haven't they always been somewhat decent in the winter sports?

They won only 6 gold medals at the last four Winter Olympics combined, and have never finished top 3 in the medals. Their best ever result was in 1994 at Lillehammer, where they won 7 gold and 20 total medals for 4th overall.
