How does one get noticed for recruiting in Track?

Her Uncle (my friend) played football for Tulsa and her brother is playing football for Texas Tech. My friend doesn't want her to go to tech.

Friend txt to me:
i couldn't live with myself if she went to tech
she's being influenced because her older brother is on the football team there
but he won't be there anymore when she's going

Kelly L. Smith has been running track since the age of five. Since then, she has been all-American and placing Gold and Silver in her events.
She has always dominated her age division. She has competed in both AAU and USATF.
Her events are 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100 and 4x400.
In the AAU Junior Olympics in 2025, She won Gold in the 200m, won Bronze in the 100m and helped her teammates win 4th place in the 4x100m. In 2024 at the USATF Junior Olympics held at Texas A&M She won Gold in the 200m and 400m and Silver in the 100m. She is a competitor both individually and collaboratively.

I'm not sure the rules now but coaches are probably not allowed to reach out till junior year. I think when I was in high school it wasn't until the summer before your senior year. Once she is a junior or if she is super eager maybe sophomore year she can find coaches emails on the team's website and let them know she is interested as well as her times in each event also probably good to add goal times for the year. They typically want to know GPA, class rank and test scores to make sure that won't be an issue. They are unlikely to give her much time till she's an upper classmen but would probably be good to email before and after each season.

Thanks. I think he is taking her to one of the meets at A&M this spring.

Just went the the T&F recruiting process with my daughter last year, this advice all spot on. I would just add, she should fill out the recruiting questionaire for any school she is remotely interested, which can be found on each schools athletic page. We also had great success in connecting with coaches on X, follow every school and coach, again, even vaguely interested in and post content and results tagging them. Great thing about Track and Field, you just need a measuring tape and stopwatch to see where you're at against any schools recruiting standards.

Excellent information. I just passed that along to him.

All great advice above, I'm late to the party, but the most important thing I'll say is don't rush or over complicate the process. Make sure she stays in love and passionate about the sport first and foremost. So many kids go through track and accomplish so much at an early age and the sport becomes their job and success is their only reason to work or participate. Never let her lose the love of the sport!

This Reddit post is about as good and thorough overview of track recruiting as I've ever seen. But it all really boils down to putting down a few good, verifiable times and contacting schools yourself.
