Live Results: https://flashresults.ncaa.com/Outdoor/2024/FirstRounds/West/index.htm

Date: May 22-25
Schedule: https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/crosstrack/d1/outdoortf/2023-24D1XTO_ScheduleofEventsFayetteville.pdf

Okay so up next in about a week and a half is the national prelims or the regional meet! The way this works is they split the country in half! A West Region and an East Region! We are in the West Region along with schools west of us lol as well as Arkansas and a few other big 10 schools!

To compete in this meet you have to have a top 48 mark in their respective event, however athletes on the bubble may get in if others who have a top 48 time choose to not participate in an event or miss the entire meet! This meet will have a "first round" prelim race, then a quarterfinal race! The top 12 athletes in each race advance to the national finals in Eugene, Oregon! For multis, the top 24 athletes as of now will advance straight to Eugene! So Timara Chapman, Joniar Thomas, and Blake Harris is on the bubble For relays, the top 24 compete and the top 12 advance!

I'll start making a list of athletes who have marks to compete! Although not all will compete in everything for example Sam Whitmarsh might only compete in the 800 and not the 1500 he has a top 48 time in, as well as Kimar Farquharson! Others may have a top mark but may not compete due to injury!

I'll edit this post with a live results link when we get one!

Injuries happen all the time in the decathlon, so I hope Blake Harris can get in! Missing it by a few points is brutal! So I hope he can get in if 2 others drop! Timara Chapman and Joniar Thomas are automatically headed to Eugene in the heptathlon so they may try to qualify in the long jump! Cooper Cawthra should easily get into the 1500 as distance races usually see the most scratches as distance runners usually stick to 1 or 2! Our men's 4x100 missed it by one spot but Pat Henry probably wouldn't have ran a group out there anyways!

This meet is a random assignment! So lane draws and who's in what heat are factors to pay attention to! It's all about advancing through each round! Field events are only given 3 attempts as well!

As others have said, thanks for doing this. My interest in A&M track goes all the way back to Mills, Kerr, Broadhead, Durskie (spelling?), Mosley and of course Dickey….but the interest has waned lately. You're dragging me back in. Thanks.

Absolutely! I love doing this and love discussing track and field and making it easier for others to join in! My interest goes all the way back to Fred Kerley, Bobby Grant, Bryce Deadmon, and Athing Mu lol I just graduated from A&M a few years ago and have always followed track and field! I found these boards a few years ago and have tried my best to engage others in discussing track and field! I want to help A&M become a track town!

Fun fact, one of Bryce Deadmon's high school coaches went on to Brazoswood to coach Sam in his sophomore year when he won state, and then moved to George Ranch and coached Bryce McCray for a year....

LOL. I top you in years of interest but I really appreciate your contributions. My general interest goes back to my childhood and attending the Texas relays which were much more about HS back then. A&M wise, I graduated in 1965 so my time goes back to the RAndy Matson days, One of the greatest athletes of all time! Watched him set national and world records at Kyle Field. I wish we had someone employed at Texags that knows something about T&F! Not even a T&F forum and we have the greatest coach of all time. One would think when they interview Pat they would have the insight to ask him about Assinga! If he had been able to compete , the men would have won. Perplexing that we can't get a straight answer
taylorswift13_
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Wow! I would have loved to see Matson compete! And I think you are absolutely right! I wish our track team had more coverage! I hate never finding out about injuries, I hate how even for home meets we don't get heat sheets till the day of or midnight before! We have the coach, we have the history, we have the facilities, I really want to help make Texas A&M more of a track town so I really try to drive conversation about the track team! I haven't been able to be as active as I can almost years because my mom was in a coma during xc and is in hospice right now, but I've tried to talk and cover track as much as I can!

But with our school's facilities and resources I wish the track team had more coverage but also more community involvement! We need to host more track meets at our stadium! We need to host regional meets, multiple invitationals, more than just one cross country meet! I want the state cross country meet in Aggieland! We can have track meets on early Fridays to get local elementary's to take field trips to the meets! We can have race the Aggies, where students during football games line up and race some of the track members! Kentucky does this! We can have pole vault and high jump exhibitions ON CAMPUS on the academic plaza or around the msc! Or even in the msc! We don't have track merch available for purchase aside from one t shirt from the warehouse! We need to make more track merchandise! And there's so many other things we can do to grow this sport and make A&M the track town it can be! I'm young and broke so all I can do is engage activity here! I'll try to work my way up to get into A&M's staff one day

Blake isn't making it. He's 18th in the West. He has a better vault and he's in.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
For multis they go based off of national rankings! They take the top 24 nationally! So as of now he's sitting in 26th! Which means we need two to scratch! But that's probably too much of an ask, our only hope is injuries as that's common for multi's!
taylorswift13_
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He actually missed it by one as only one guy ahead of him scratched!

Declarations are out! Cooper Cawthra is through in 800 and the 1500, so he's going for the double! Sam Whitmarsh isn't! Timara Chapman is only going for the hep and long jump as is Joniar Thomas! Bailey Goggans is not a scratch so hopefully she's healthy!!! Everything else looks pretty normal! I'll dissect it more later

Most updated declarations as of this afternoon. Doesn't look like Cawthra will double in the 800/1500.

Make sense that would be a very hard double to pull off! I wanna see him go all out in the 1500 and try to PR and see where the cards lie!

That 5000 is loaded and Eric Casarez goes in ranked 17, it's gonna be tough to get in, but with the 2 flights anything can happen
