I would bet good money this was not expected. He's a fringe NHL defender at best, so this doesn't really hurt the Stars big team necessarily, but does hurt the Texas Stars, who are in a world of hurt right now.

Hurts our depth. He's a great insurance policy and there are no viable Defensemen in Austin who can step in.

We swapped out Hanley for Hakanpaa or Lundkvist as our 7th defenseman. That's a depth upgrade for the big club.

And also, if we were having to call up Hanley for a stint at the end of the season or in the playoffs because of injuries, we would be in for a world of hurt anyways, so losing him doesn't affect us much.

If Tanev gets to play tonight, I will be curious as to who's going to be the first guy to ride pine, Lundy or Hakanpaa.

It all depends on how he's going to do the pairings. I believe they said they'll want to put Heiskanen on his natural Left side.

So will it be:

Miro (L) - Tanev (R)
Harley (L) - Esa (L)
Suter (L) - Nils (R)

There you have a forward thinking Defenseman paired with more of a defense first guy on every pairing. That Harley/Esa line might be sneaky good as Esa can get up ice and make a play or two as well.

Seemed like such a "play it safe" move when the obvious move was to sit Hakanpaa for Lundkvist and go with one attacking D and one defensive D per pairing...
