Is this guy a football player as well… he appears to be a transfer from SMU..that has no men's track program…he is listed as a freshman but has to be 20-21 years old..just curious of where he comes from?

From Duncanville. Won 6A State in 2022 with a 10.22 into a -0.5 headwind. Also a 10.09 with no wind reading at Area.
3 star football recruit with 18 FBS offers. Played LB/special teams for SMU with 2 tackles as a freshman. Went in transfer portal in May 2023. Apparently came out of it on our track team.

Okay but wow maybe it's just me, but with his size and height..he would be a dream pickup as a DB to any DIV I school including TAMU..I could not think of a reason he would not be playing football. With his stature I would say at best he could possibly get back down to a 10.2, with no other event in sight…A 10.2 in track won't even get you to finals in track…a 10.2 in football will get you drafted in the NFL..am I looking at this wrong??
Someone please help make this make sense?
He could run sub-10 if he wasn't carrying football weight. Great long run speed, but short area burst/quickness isn't that special.
I don't know the reality, but just speculating possibilities. Perhaps:
- He doesn't like playing college football
- There is a physical reason he can't play football anymore (concussions, narrow spine, etc.)
- He's going to run track AND play football for A&M
- He lacks football specific skills such as lateral quickness, reading the play, etc. and realized this after a year at SMU.
- He just loves track and decided to pursue his dream

Perhaps…but it reminds me of the days when my kids went to summer football practice and in the parking lot they had the marching band practicing and there would always be a 6'5" 250 kid with a horn in his hand…the coach in me always wanted to have a intervention and football conversation, but the parent in me told me that wasn't my right to do so…
My athlete won state last year in the shot put and she's about 5'7! We would walk every day in the summer from the weight room to the throwing rings and pass a female trombone player that was 6'3 and built like Myles Garrett, she told me her parents wouldn't allow her to do sports… I wanted to try to convince her everyday

I asked someone who follows HS football very closely. Said there really isn't a position that fits him. He's primarily been a defender but you'd think he'd be a decent RB.

I'm gonna say it... Texas A&M is 600U on the WORLD STAGE , as Athing (1:23.57) is No. 3 and Shamier (1:24.65) is No. 8 in WORLD HISTORY! Also worth noting Devin Dixon is No. 11 in world history at 1:15.16!
I realize the indoor 600m is rarely run on the world stage but these are the facts #SorryBoutIt

Ernest (Flash) jumped 21' 10" in his first meet today according to his mom on FB. First long jump for him in over 2 years and it's a massive PR.
He also anchored Refugio in the 4x100 to take down all the Corpus area schools! And ran a 10.84 in the 100!
Yep, just watched videos of both of those as well. Also ran the 400m for the first time ever, came second at 50.01. Mom said she's most proud of this because EC don't ever want to run more than 101 m. LOL.
That's funny! I coach in South Texas and glossed through the results and didn't even notice he ran the 400, that's a crazy time! Refugio will for sure win state again!
Madison Peters went 2:14 and 4:58 yesterday! A couple weeks ago San Juanita Leal went 2:14, 4:58, and 10:40 in races where she ran all alone
I'd assume the next best 800 time would be the tiebreaker
