Can't speak for tu but our team has been going backwards for several years. What does it say when the 400 meter national champion was an Aggie last year and is now celebrating a national championship with his new school. Not sure our administration really cares about the declining performance because of all the past success.

What is tech doing to be able to have so many runners? They seem to have unlimited schollys

I go back and forth, I see the warning signs. That said, I'm not quite hitting the panic button.

Over last 2 years alone, you're talking Athing, Charokee, Tyra, Brandon Miller, Bamidele, etc. leaving early for one reason or another. That's always gonna be tough. The fact A&M can still recruit the Mu's and Asinga's of the world gives me hope. I'd rather have the current situation than one where nobody leaves early but also never does anything notable.

Especially hard for me to decipher transfer situation given the facility transition. Maybe some of the athletes just didn't wanna stick out a year with tons of travel and no home meets? Don't have any inside information on it, but that's my hope at least.

EDIT: caught in between two thoughts lol, NOT hitting the panic button

Did Mu know Miller before she came here or did they fall head over hurdles together solely on campus?

They knew each other from juniors

It's about NIL money. They don't care about travel.

Coach Henry is correct when he says the conference meet means more than the national championships. Don't get me wrong, the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships are a great meet and super fun to watch! But they are about individuals and their performance. Good for Stanford men who placed third overall with only five scorers! BUT the Ags who finished all behind them would certainly do better in a dual meet than them. I don't know how to reorganize the meet to better reflect the "complete team."

Didn't know he said that and not sure I really understand that thinking. They give out National Championships to the team winners. I would think everyone would shoot for that. I do understand it is hard to win one in track and field but that should be the objective.
Am I wrong?

I agree that our track team has been going in the wrong direction for several years.

I think it's got several causes. Coach clearly underestimated the NIL effect. He stated several times early on words to the effect that he didn't like it nor understand it. You may not like it, but right now, NIL effects virtually everything, particularly in a sport where there are so few overall scholarships.

I think Henry's age is another problem. He's in his mid-70s. I respect everything he's done for us, but how many legends stay on past their time? I think the women are going to have a decent, not great, meet. I wish he would decide to call it a career so we could get a younger, more aggressive coach who could better deal with the NIL world that exists right now.

By the way, Coach Henry always build his teams to win national meets. We never did that well comparatively at conference meets, even when we were winning national titles.

Conference meets are about depth and national meets are about top end talent.

So, wouldn't you want to win the National Championship more than the conference. Just like the conference tournaments in BB, Baseball, Softball, and whatever?

On her first hep long jump Joniar Thomas goes 21'4.25 which would have placed her 4th in the open long jump after she wasn't given her final 3 jumps

2 events to go and Joniar Thomas has improved to 5th

Solid PR in the javelin too in round 2 for Joniar! Improved approximately 5 feet or 1.5 meters! Still has one more attempt!

With one event remaining Joniar Thomas sits in 4th in the Heptathlon! The 800 isn't her best event but a PR or anything around that should keep her top 6 top 7

As others have said, when we were winning national championships, we weren't anywhere close to winning the conferences meets. That's one of the ironies of track and filed.

Conference championships have been won by piling up points in the distance events. The Pigs are particularly adept at that. If I read the results correctly, no SEC men's team got ANY points in events longer than 800 meters. S o all those conference points are lost.

In the days prior to NIL, you won national championships with relatively few extraordinarily elite athletes who could get you from 55 to 65 points a nationals. With that total you are going to be extraordinarily competitive.

Consider a couple of years ago when Gittens won the heptathlon, I think placed second in the high jump, and third in the broad jump. That's 24 points just for her. That's the way Henry planned to win a national championship. Similar results in the conference championships were impressive but not nearly enough.

Lamara Distin is set to begin her journey to a 4th straight individual national championship! Let's hope she can also go after the NCAA High Jump Record as well! She's given this team so much, I wanna see her go off the right way and maybe the record will be the cherry on top! The record is 1.99 meters or 6'6.25! She has gone 1.97, 2 meters is the goal!

Crazy they removed Lamara off the last Bowerman list. Imagine they have three short hurdlers Nugent, Russell and Armstrong but only one could win NCAA. They have two 400m runners Wilson and Adeleke and both cannot win. Also two long and triple jumpers Moore and Smith. So Lamara has been undefeated and even though recently she hasn't jumped as high as she usually does no one has beaten her. So don't know the rationale for removing her.
