Davis finishes 5th in the 300 hurdles in 37.1.

Winner was from Texas City and ran a 36.06 which I believe is the fastest in the country to date.

61 and 2:11 splits from Boerne freshman Leachman last night. Won in 4:47. Faster than the 5A boys at 400 mark. Every runner under 62.

Just stopped the 6A girls 3200 at the one mile mark due to lightning. Absolute cluster.

Leachman is insane! She runs so fearlessly and will get out hard every time! Crazy what they did to the 6A girls mid race!

Congrats to your son yesterday as well! I made sure my girls and other coaches cheered like crazy for him! They said they did!

Thanks. My son PRd in both races, and his goal was to beat somebody. 8th in both races. Both goals accomplished. My daughter is over there now hoping to cheer for her teammate in the 3200. IDK what they'll do. The Humphries will have to race 4x today?

How did your kids do?

MY GIRL WON THE 5A SHOT PUT! She threw 48'7! I had a post on the first page summarizing all of it! It was a crazy day, but God lined everything perfectly! I'm still trying to process it!

But congrats to your son! That sounds awesome and i can't wait to see him run next year!

The stoppage during the 2 mile was crazy! I was joking that they should place all of them where they were when it stopped and then continue the clock lol! But yeah having to do that is crazy! It's gonna be chaotic, especially if they have to wait till tomorrow!

Outstanding! I was watching to see if Lovejoy could win state with their XC team. Littlefield went out too hard in her 800 and came up just short of her state record push. Then she looked done in the 1600 after Leachman ran that 61. Incredible athlete, but the rolling starts and the humidity were tough on the distance kids who were trying to run 3 events.

Great job by Maddie. Looked like she sandbagged a bit in the 800 and saved up for the mile, but who knows. Things can go sideways in an 800 fast. That makes Leachman's 2:11 800 split even more amazing.

Yes, she beat them, but "taking them down" is maybe a bit much. I would say the 3200 win was "taking them down," though. After a fake 1600, a real 3200, an 800, and a real 1600 with a rolling schedule, Leal SHOULD have won that race.

That's the race I was referring to! Look at the time I posted it! And that's knowing she beat them at Texas Relays too! I've met her and the family and they are great people so I root for her! It must have been a crazy day for the Flower Mound girls! That's a lot of running in a short time span, what they did was incredible!

Ah, my bad. Did you notice how she went 12 seconds slower on the 400 split than Leachman, and they finished with the same time? Strange stuff. Never seen anything like that 5A 1600.

Insane! Idk why Leachman runs like that! I've seen her do it twice! She collapsed in the 2 mile at regionals with 100 meters to go and had to be helped off! She ran out crazy and was 200 meters ahead and still pushing it before she collapsed, itwas wild! But she came back the next day full speed in the mile and ran with the same intensity to win it! Her potential is crazy and I can't wait to see how she improves and grows!

Didn't know that about the 3200. Hope she learns how to run....there will be a Come to Jesus moment. Right now she's just a really talented middle schooler, but stories like that collapse are scary. If it ever happens in the heat, it can mess you up permanently. You love the effort, but man, the wall is not a place to visit very often.

That's what was scary! I wa a holding my breath the entire mile as she went out hard again! It was crazy to see but it worked! It'll be interesting to see if her strategy stays the same in cross country! It's not safe! The stadium went dead quiet after her 3200! It was not fun to see! But somehow she came back 30 hours later and went all out in the mile

Those splits were way off. She actually went through the 400 in 72 and the 800 in 2:23. If you watch the FloTrack coverage you can see about 350 meters into the race the clock on the screen jumps back about ten seconds and then another second or so. On the last lap it all of the sudden jumps ahead about 11-12 seconds. This confirms what I heard from people who were paying attention to that race with their own stopwatches. I find it bizarre that none of the announcers caught this and actually thought she went out that fast. She would have looked like she was redlining to go through that fast.

OK. Thanks. I have photos of the board at 400m. I could see how one runner could run 61. As insane as that would be, the crazier part is that everyone else was within 2 seconds of her. Given this information, she actually ran a near perfect race. The bad news is that she probably can't run any faster right now (poor freshman can only do 4:47, lol).

Refugio got busted for cheating at Regionals (so I was told). Their stud who ran ~10.18 at State got put in a 4th running event (the 4x4) at Regionals, and they got busted for it, and their 4x4 got DQ'd. Their coach should be ashamed for this. Anyway, as much as I despise the UIL, those rules are there to protect the athletes from themselves and from over-zealous coaches. I find it interesting that this kid pulled up lame upon finishing his last event at State. Anecdotal evidence, or is it...?

Our runner had a 10:52 PR, has signed at Texas Tech, and is an amazing runner, but that field was probably the most loaded 3200 in state history. I think the wild card ran a 10:21 (Bushaw, I believe). Anyway, for her to come through the 1600 at 5:12 and then be stopped, it was brutal. She actually came back and ran 11:05, but Leal and those FM twins are just on a different level.

Steeple,
I was at Humble ISD signing day this morning, and there's a steeple kid from Atascocita who visited U of H but eventually signed with Fairleigh Dickinson. These steeple kids are a strange group because they don't even have a district meet. My daughter has a lanky friend (girl) who is a decent 100m hurdler, and actually ran XC as a freshman. She's not that fast, and from my limited knowledge, I think she'd be great at Steeple. Wouldn't an XC/hurdling background with limited explosiveness be a good fit for that?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Refugio had a kid get hurt in the prelims of the mile relay at regionals. That kid also ran in the sprint relay, 800 meter relay and mile relay. Unfortunately the coach moved one kid to the 800 meter relay from the sprint relay. The kid that moved to the 800 meter relay had already run the sprint relay, 400 and mile relay in prelims. The coach totally screwed up not knowing that once you run 3 events in the prelims then that is the 3 events you are in for the meet. The coach looked at it as 3 running events per day.

So Refugio ran 2 alternates in the sprint relay, the one kid in too many events in the 800 meter relay and an alternate in the mile relay. Qualified in the sprint and mile to state and disqualified in the 800 meter justly so because the coach totally screwed the pooch. Campbell the 10.22 kid ran in the same 3 events at regionals.

Thanks for clarifying. You'd think with 12 state titles that the coach would know the rules. Regardless that kid is fantastic. He overtook 2 or 3 guys on the anchor of the 4x1, and made the 100m race look like a joke. He's obviously a national level recruit, but having seen the effects of training against top 6a competition for 4 years, I'd recruit the heck out of these smaller school kids, especially the ones who don't run in track clubs and haven't been challenged.

I don't think you really recruit someone that is a "steepler" from high school because it doesnt matter much, just because of the lack of races they have in them in high school (exception of some northeast states). The experience they would have would become negligible within a year of college. I do think there should be a focus on recruiting distance runners that are more athletic and are open to doing steeple because it's easier points than the 1500 or 5k but I'll go on that rant another day...
