I guess since it's her last meet I can finally mention my athlete Serina Ramirez will compete in the 5A Girls Shot Put for the 3rd consecutive year! She is coming off an injury and we weren't even expecting her to compete at all this season! We just started putting it all together and for the last 2 weeks have finally had full practices and no limitations! She had an injured ankle and an injured wrist so she wasn't able to do any physical activity from August - January and reinjured her ankle in February, but she is back and hit a 46'2 this past weekend! Unfortunately she scratched out in the discus as turning on her ankle there was a little more tricky so we haven't practiced that much although one of her fouls was close to 170! We'll be going for the gold against two elite throwers Friday the 12th so that will be fun! It's been an up and down high school career with covid and personal battles but she'll have one more meet in a year where we didn't expect any! Then she'll be headed off to TCU on a full ride as a first gen student and only the 3rd athlete in our schools history to earn an athletic scholarship to a Power 5 school! Her and her mom approached me when I was 17 and asked for some help as she was an 11 year old learning the sport and here we are now! And to be transparent A&M never tried to recruit her I just needed a place to brag about her because I'm a proud coach! If it weren't for injuries I believe we could've been at 52 and 180, but she needed the surgery now so she's ready for college! Let's hope we can get one more gold medal next weekend!
