Can we start recruiting this kid now? He is a HS freshman at Southlake Carroll and ran a 4:15 mile in February? I would be surprised if that is not a national record for that age group.

At the state XC meet last fall, there were a total of 6 9th grade boys running the 6A race out of 150 runners. You are correct. Boy just don't bloom as fast as girls. There were something like 24 freshman girls in the 6A race. While that's an impressive time, there is zero need for a freshman boy to be running that fast. He may have been in a running club for several years already, and have some huge advantages, parents spending big bucks, etc. Not diminishing the time at all - just pointing out that there's no way to know if he'll even be sub 4:10 as a senior, healthy, still like running...

Or maybe he's Coach Leonard's son and has grown up around all the Southlake runners!

You can't recruit HS kids until the end of their sophomore year

I guess we'll see if that's a positive or not. Does Southlake also have a sketchy mile course, lol?
