Man, what a start. It took us 5 games to score 9 goals last year and we're bound to break some more scoring comparisons moving forward with how poor our offense started (and continued)

I'm already excited for the game tonight. I have a really good feeling that this season is gonna be fun!

And it was games 13 & 14 before we got our first 2 regulation wins last season. It's certainly nice not to start the season behind the 8-ball!

The offense and transition game has been awesome to watch, and it will only get better the more they play in DeBoer's philosophy and system. The defense has been a little slower, but I also believe that it will come around in due time with less turnovers.

I have noticed that we will get exposed on some defense this year with how much our defensemen are pinching down to keep the puck in the zone along the boards. If the forward that wheels around to cover for him isn't fast enough getting to position, then we are exposed big time to some odd-man rushes. Against faster teams we will have to be pretty careful.

But that style of play has already resulted in a ton more puck possession and our d-men haven't lost too many of those battles just yet.

Unfortunately, Bones has the rona and won't be at the game tonight. Hopefully he gets to see us crush them from home!

We had a good time. Thanks again for the passes!

It was general admission so you just walk in and take a seat anywhere you wanted in the lower bowl. If you got there early then you could be right on the glass. For someone like me who normally sits in the cheap seats it was cool to be down there. Great for people with kids that brought signs and got to interact with the players. The players tossed out pucks and shirts to a lot of the kids there.

The skills competition wasn't taken as seriously as the All Star game skills contest, but it was still fun. Only a couple of players went for each team and it was mainly the young guy and recent additions. Razor and Bogorad announced the whole event. Severyn was the official for the events.

  • Event 1-Mainly stick handling: Wyatt Johnston looked super smooth in this event and won it easily. Marchment cheated his way through the pylons, but still didn't come close. Stickhandle around pylons, then skate to the other face off dot and work thorough obstacles, then limbo under a stick held by two ice girls, go and make two saucer passes into small nets, deke through cones and then finish by hitting all the lighted up targets on the net. Fastest time wins.
  • Event 2- Snipe shooting targets in four corners of the net. Fastest time wins. Surprisingly, Glendening absolutely killed it in this competition
  • Event 3 - Was supposed to be a fastest skater race between Roope and Miro. Both said that their quads were a little tight and that their replacements would be two kids from under 13 teams in the area. So they raced each other and had a good time.
  • Event 4 - Juggling a puck on a stick until only one was left. They had 6 players all juggling the pucks on their sticks and they were encouraged to mess with the other players. Ended up being Robertson and Faksa on one team versus Dellandrea from the other team for the Final 3. Faksa went after Dellandrea to make him drop the puck, but Robertson lost his first and Dellandrea won. Razor interviewed him after he won and kept asking him if he had practice juggling, like chainsaws and torches. Dellandrea said that he only had experience in juggling a couple of balls, and Razor said "a couple of balls huh, uh we'll just leave it at that".
  • Event 5 - Hardest shot competition. Hakanpaa won it at 98 mph. Gurianov couldn't get it up there, I think he topped out at 89. They just had a girl behind the net with a radar gun and it kept messing up. It was funny to see them wind up a hard slap shot and then the gun reads 18 mph
  • Event 6 - Breakaway trick shot competition. The guys just really goofed around on this one. They had two of the emergency goal tenders in net. One of the EBUGs was a guy that has taught some of my adult hockey classes at the Stars Centers. Dellandrea had the highest score. He picked up the puck up off the ice with his stick. Just cradled it back in forth in the air while skating down. Then spun around and whipped into the top corner of the net past the goalie.

Afterwards the players all hung around and skated with some kids on the ice. Sutter had his kids out there. Marchment stayed out a long time and was really enjoying playing hockey with the kids. The players gave out a lot of stuff to people attending. Definitely worth it to bring the kids with you and see if you can get a puck or something signed.

Hopefully they do it again. It would be nice to see them do more things like the first event. Would've been nice to see more players compete in the skills contest and take it a little more seriously. They kind of goofed around through a lot of them. It was all fun and worth going to.

Does anyone know of any watch parties around town besides the arena? I'm without the wife and kids tonight and would like to go somewhere. Up around Frisco/The colony area but willing to drive a bit for it

Jets put one in. First deficit for the Stars this season.

But getting behind isn't the stress inducing moment it used to be with the Stars style these days.

That was a sweet pass from Dellandrea. It's exciting to see some skill on display rather than just throwing it at the net minder.

Eventually we're going to have to learn when to make the stretch passes and when not too. Some major turnovers when there's no reason to stretch it out.

Try deleting your cookies. Select a different U.S. location to connect to. It could also be your VPN letting you down. If multiple people are being routed through the same IP address and are accessing ESPN plus then it will block that IP address.

My brother uses Nord VPN and has had no problems. Might have to switch locations a few times.
