NHL has a contract with ESPN to broadcast a certain number of games for the season. All the other games will be on Bally (barf). Even though the streaming was hit and miss last night, I do think that having ESPN broadcast games is good for the NHL.

I do too, but opening night should be on a better platform than ESPN plus. I guess I have to subscribe, but I don't have high speed internet at home.

Last night was such a fun watch. The defense looked to be just as active and the offense is actually entering the zone and moving the puck. Could be a fun season

The only players I thought had bad games were Hakanpaa and Faksa. Hakanpaa just took stupid penalties, but I thought Faksa was pretty forgettable. It's the first game of the season and we have a long way to go, but we have a ton of young talent chomping at the bit for Faksa's spot.

Faksa needs to be traded to a defensive focused team that has a checking line. Maybe Bowness in Winnipeg would make us a deal.

I like that Deboer likes Suter and knows how to use him. It's crazy a difference a system can make on one player. Bowness really limited the offensive defensemen.

Yeah we have to have Hakanpaa for his size, but he has to limit the penalties. He and Benn are our only fighters.

Faksa defender checking-in. He had 10 face-offs and won 6 of them. He was on the penalty kill for nearly four minutes (by far the most for a forward). He's not on the team to score, he's there to win face-offs and be a defensive forward, which I think he's pretty good at.

I agree. I don't understand the Faksa hate. He's good at what he's supposed to do for the team. Him scoring is just a bonus.

I fully understand what Faksa'a role is on the team, and it's a valuable role in a vacuum. But he's being paid $4 million with a cap hit of $3.25 to win face offs and block shots. Why keep that cap space locked away when we have a handful of guys (Karlstrom, Bourque and Back) who can do that same exact job with more upside and for a fraction of the price? I don't hate Faksa, just don't think he's worth the cost.

He has to generate more offense, and they will see if he can under Deboer before taking a less than ideal trade for him. His skill set is best for Winnepeg or in New York with Gallant on an overly defensive team. But, he brings such good defense to our team that he may be really valuable in a balanced system. We had a few brain farts on defense yesterday that could have developed worse than they did.

I agree that his contract is not team friendly and I thought it was too much when he signed it. But those young guys absolutely can not come in and be top 20 face off guys in the league like Faksa is. I'm hoping (expecting) Faksa to up his scoring a little under DeBoer's system as well.

I don't hate Faksa, but he used to be a legitimate Selke candidate (why he got the contract he did). But since then, his analytics are dreadful, almost across the board. Here's an example from this past April:

His contract comes off the board in 2025. It is strange that his production has dropped, as he is 28 years old so should be in his prime.
