AAC looks great from the outside and is in a neat area downtown, but I think it could use some serious work inside.

This is interesting though because it feels like there's been rumors for years surrounding the Mavs wanting to build a new place. I guess the Stars have the same idea. That would be a huge bill too, as I'm sure a new arena would cost roughly a billion dollars. Does Gaglardi want to foot most of that?

They practice in Frisco, a lot of the team and staff live up this way, and rumor is Frisco is in on the discussion as well.

This communication is from a friend within the org. The lease isn't up for another 7 seasons but he said something about them being able to get out after 4.

Like I said this is just what I'm being told so take it for what it's worth. I would be pumped for them to move up here.

It would really alienate everyone in Tarrant County. I know quite a few Ft worth season ticket holders who take the TRE for every game. Say what you will about the Cowboys being in Arlington but it's better for everyone.

So rumor has it, there are some conversations going on internally about relocating to the Lebanon / DNT where they were to originally build Wade Park. Lease is ending in 4 years and doesn't seem like Stars and AAC are seeing eye to eye on a lease extension.

I was also told they are looking at this because roughly 60% of the season ticket holders live in Plano area or north (also go east and west).

I'll be interested to see what comes of this in the next year or so.
This spot? I read a new development had finally been planned to replace Wade Park called "The Mix." Could the Stars be part of the mix?

I put an X where the Stars practice.

I know a few folks out there including Aledo. Not saying it won't impact them, but if they are looking at more than half of their season ticket holds being in the. Roth Dallas burbs, it's probably something they have to consider heavily.

Yes that part and the music venue to the south of that lot that still isn't built. A lot of land there to include a stadium.

Crazy how fluid the situation is. Brad Alberts made the case for the Stars staying last summer, when Mark Cuban was making all that noise about the Mavericks leaving.
As I understand it now, that land is so valuable that they don't feel like they have to make any concessions to keep the Mavs and/or Stars and both teams have options as well. This may end up being a big game of chicken, but we very well may see the end of the AAC by the end of this decade.

Just moved west. Not ideal for me personally.
I'm not sure if people genuinely believe someone is going to say, "Wow, if some people say I'm a moron for not believing this, it clearly must be true."

It's not much a persuasive argument. It really just sounds like a bunch of miniature dachshunds barking because the first one one barked when it thought it heard something.

I would become a season ticket holder if they moved to that location. They would probably gain more ticket holders than they would lose by moving away from downtown.

Just look at all the people they would gain access to in Plano, Frisco, Prosper, Celina, McKinney, etc … they would be following the money.
PrestigeWorldwideAg12

A lot of money up north that's for sure

I would hate for another "Dallas" team to not actually play in Dallas, but I am a Dallas resident so I recognize I am probably in the minority. I'm so jealous of Minute Maid and NRG (and Toyota obvs) being as central as they are for Houstonians. Then again, they are a city with suburbs on all sides and Dallas is much more of a Southern anchor. And if you factor in Ft. Worth, I guess Arlington is "fair". But F that, I want my teams in the city they represent

Dellandrea has signed. 1 year. $900k. I figured he'd get at least $1.2M. Guess that was the cost of a short term deal. Figures he'll get more and a longer term next year.
Puts the Stars comfortably in budget.

Barring some trades out, I think Delly will be fighting for the 12th forward spot or even 13th, and that's best case scenario in my mind. The top 9 not even considering prospects like Bourque, Stankoven or Blumel are pretty much set:

Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski
Benn-Johnston-Dadonov
Marchment-Seguin-Duchene

Now, if you'd rather see Marchment on the fourth line until/if/when he can get his game back together, totally fine and I'm here for that, but I think Sam Steel is taking that spot. He has a guaranteed top 12 role imo, same with Faksa until/if he's dealt. That leaves the 12th and 13th spots being a dog fight between Delly, Craig Smith, Stankoven and Bourque.

All of this isn't even considering if Stankoven, Bourque or Blumel come into camp and completely light it up. If they do that, then all bets are off.

Yeah this is definitely a "prove it" deal for Delly.

Agree with all points If you're choosing today, which 2 of the 4 do you roll with?

Looking more and more like Stankoven will be left out, which is mildly surprising, but obviously a lot of time until that gets decided.

I think it all really comes down to if Stankoven can do what Wyatt did last training camp, which is simply make it impossible for them to keep off the roster. But, if he's only average or they think he still has development left to do, then they will gladly have him start the year in Cedar Park, if not play the whole year there. Which is definitely disappointing, but if he's not ready then he's not ready. If I had to pick today I would say it will be Craig Smith and Delly as the swing man. I see no way Bourque is going to start the year with the Stars, and in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he's heavily dangled in a trade before the season or before the trade deadline.

Cedar Park could be pretty crazy this year if Stankoven isn't quite ready. The Texas Stars should also be welcoming Bichsel, Kyrou, Stranges, etc. this year.

Any chance of Lundqvist making cracking the roster?

Nils? I think he is penciled in as one of the starting 6. Likely with Esa.

Lundquist will get every opportunity to become a top 4 defenseman. He is our only hope right now unless Esa re-emerges.

Great article on potential Brett Pesce destinations - he could decide the Cup IMO, which is why Carolina might hold on and try to resign him next year. Stars should deal some picks.

"Since the Stars didn't add a defenseman in free agency, the trade market is probably the best route. And Pesce stands out as a strong top-four fit on the right side. The fact that this is a team with structure should help his game translate to a new team and make this a smoother transition. Dallas has assets to move, including its next three first-rounders and two of three seconds. Cap space is another issue, but the Stars can join the club of almost every other playoff team in need of moving salary out to bring anything back. Luckily, Pesce's current contract isn't too costly so it won't be a huge stretch to clear that. Dallas could even become a long-term fit with some work. Considering the Stars' playoff window, Pesce's timeline does line up well here. The only issue is what the later years of that contract could be. But by the time Dallas gets to that point, it'll shed some other big deals so it wouldn't be too much clutter on the books."

It was reported they were working on a succession plan. I guess winning GM of the Year pushes that timeline back. Glad Nill is sticking around a bit longer. He has unfinished business.

Looks like the Athletic is making the Stars an afterthought. Sean Shapiro and then Saad have been great. Now, guess it's time to cancel my sub.

Appreciate the advice. I suppose I could sell what I don't use. I live in a cowpie town about 240 miles south on I-45.
