Yeah so normally it would be top 3, but now each athlete must have met the World Championship Standard, which is a set mark in each event to get into the Championships. So let's say if if 3rd place doesn't have that standard, and 4th does, the US can send the 4th place finisher at its trials! And if they haven't met the standard they go on the world rankings placing if not enough athletes globally have the standard. Hence last year Tyra Gittens missed the standard by 2 points and wasn't ranked high in the world rankings! In the live results it indicates which athletes have the WCS World Championship Standard

Also athletes who won the World Championships in 2022 or Diamond League circuit last year get a bye and automatically qualify for the World Championships this summer, hence why Donovan Brazier and a few other athletes like Christian Coleman and Dalilah Muhammed aren't running

Assuming he's still dinged up, Moitalel Mpoke placed 3rd at the Kenyan Trials and punched his ticket to the World Championships! Only ran a 50.31 but hopefully he gets his legs back in 3 weeks

Natosha Rogers will compete in the 5000 right now. She already punched her ticket to worlds in the 10k! She has a little steeper hill to climb to qualify here once the US is talented, but she may shock everyone
