It happened last year before nationals, they crumbled horribly! They're always chasing times and trying to look good, it's Flo's thing... even this weekend they ran their girls so much in so many races. It'll come back to them, just watch

Also I ABSOLUTELY HATE how in this particular meet, if you pull out of a race you're not allowed to compete in any. Yet tu has DNS in almost every race and they were allowed to run elsewhere, pathetic...

This event is becoming more and more of a of a snooze fest as most of it is just mediocre races with tu's runners in all of them against a few other teams. The individualistic completion in races is not what it used to be and the relays, although exciting, not many schools were there to contest them. It's just an infomercial for Texas and the announcers are forced to hype them up lol. I wouldn't care if we didn't even attend this meet in the future. This meet is more of a high school meet anyway. Just my thought, what are y'all's opinions on it. Let's host our own meet the same weekend

Too bad we had to watch it on the sip network. Their announcers are sip. Disgusting. If the sips win an event then they blow it up big. If the Ags do well they ignore it.

Didn't get to see Sam Whitmarsh's SMR, but his 800 leg was awesome, and was the fastest of our crew! Caden Norris and Allon Clay both ran under their PR's, and Cooper after a FAST DMR 1200, didn't have his legs to close!

And Cooper's leg was against the fastest leg of the entire field.

True, that was a nice 1:47 split from the South Plains guy, wouldn't be surprised if we go after him if Brandon Miller goes pro haha! Cooper ran well, and i really wanna see how he does in a fast 1500, I'm sad he didn't get to run it with Hoffpauir! Wouldn't doubt he goes 3:47 or lower this season, same of Hoffpauir!

Also an inside scoop I witnessed. After the high school 4x200, near the 100 meter starting line, a Duncanville runner and I believe from one of the Oklahoma high schools (not so sure who the other school was) got in a cussing match and got in each other's face and started bumping chests. They were talking smack for about 60 meters after the race walking to the tent. The Duncanville sprinter then threw a punch but missed and they had to be restrained near the check in tent! Was a memorable moment for sure!

I am genuinely happy for the women's 4x4. Most wouldn't have fathomed a Mu-less crew could run this fast.
I am surprised but in no ways shocked. However, after rewatching the replay of that several times - I can't help but feel like we let an opportunity get away. Texas had their day at their own yard and their girls ran extremely well.

-Tierra did what I expected; solid open after a long meet at 51.6.
-I fear Richardson may have bulked up a little too much this year but she ran well though; 51.9 is her best split this year but that actually equates to approximately a 52.7 open which is well below the open 51.1 she did when she got to A&M. I know she is training well and it is early but she was not able to close any on Arkansas nor Texas. I won't panic as its only the 2nd meet and there is plenty of time for her to tap into speed work.
-charokee is a beast. I mentally had her at about 49 flat on the Sprint Medley but i dismissed it quickly thinking there was no way she ran that fast and that it was just a math blunder on my part but I see that was really a great piece of consisten running she did. 48.98 is tremendous and that would be the 2nd fastest split of NCAA history behind Mu and before Beard's 49.14. 3 separate A&M athletes now own the 3 fastest 4x4 splits in NCAA history and that is a legacy for Henry!
-Owens ran the fastest split of her career at 50.67 and I am pleased with her progression. I was, however, greatly disappointed in the mental lapse of her tactics. Doing the replay I was baffled as to why anyone with her footspeed would allow anyone to pass her.

She definitely has the faster 200 m and the TU girl shouldn't be given that leeway to pass within 100 m at the beginning of the backstretch. This was, to me, a blunder. I wish Laila had realized that Stacey Ann Williams can't hang with her in a 200 by several tenths. When Williams attempted to pass Laila let her go and tried to give chase on the curve( absolutely lost the race right there). I know adrenanline was kicking and thoughts were blurry but I hope that they go back and study this race.

The correct tactic would have been to respond to Williams and not let her pass on the backstrech. Make her work for the lead on the curve by running harder and longer on the outside wasting her energy trying to do so while she runs relaxed on the last curve. Unfortunately, Laila gave chase on that curve to attempt to regain the lead and expended all her energy running faster but making no headway since she ran wider. The video showed Laila running the last 60 m of that curve on the outside yet making no overtake in spite of the expended acceleration. She ran harder and faster but made up no ground and IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN the other way around.

Williams is the stronger and more apt 400 runner and Laila the faster sprinter but Laila lack of awareness played to Williams strenght and not to her own. I usually don't care about running wide but for this epic race it made all the difference as Laila could do nothing the last 30m; she decelerated the last 10 realizing she would not overtake her but she only lost by 1 stride and a half. There was literally .36 sec of separation which was ultimately the wasted distance on the last curve. That was our race.

Laila - you made the finals indoor at NCAAs because you are top 8 in the country. No one should outsprint you in the 1st 200m of the relay and if you keep that truth then next time your opponents will have to run wide and exhaust their energy accelerate wide on the curve and not you. Instead of losing by .4sec we should win by about that much. I am happy for the girls and optimistic that Henry will discuss these tactics. I think we are in good position to win it and possibly break the record again if everyone can duplicate and show marginal improvement.

On another note I am happy for Kaylah Robinson. I would love to hear her speak about feeling validated about her transfer and improvement. I am sure she had natural doubts last year. I am even more happy for K. Henry and A&M in recruiting. I can't say it will necessarily be better but I do know that schools can no longer point to A&M as a bad destination for hurdlers and being unable to develop them as other schools have done. We outshined Kentucky, Texas, Baylor, Tech, V. Tech, Clemson, and all but one of LSU athletes with her epic run. I am as happy for her as I am for A&M and what it could do for recruiting.

For all the doubts some recruits may have had about the new Henry, his job with the sprinters and hurdlers is justifying the hire. It will only get better how his confidence and aptitude for teaching his sprinters will grow.

Likewise the two sprinters making the finals was a great sign that you can come here and make some positive strides wherever your ability may currently be. Nice job coaches; good job to our 100m guys;

Excellent points. Running smart on the back stretch and not letting the sip runner pass would have been proper. Hold her off . The relay should have been won.

I'll admit I was skeptical of the Kurt Henry hire due to experience, but boy am I glad to be wrong! You are right Guest Commenter, he's done a great job with the group. And I know we didn't have our best 4x100 this week. All 3 sprinters in the open 100 and 2 short hurdlers had a PR, with Kaylah DRASTICALLY PR'ing! If she can stay on this tear she could medal at nationals this year! I'm excited and on the Kurt Henry bandwagon!

I am happy with the progress of the team. We know tu has a big team in sprints from athletes who remain after the coaching change and those that transferred, I think we are on right track in being more competitive but we must stay healthy. It seems that we have been struggling with injuries this season. If we had all our athletes fit and healthy we could be much more more competitive. Not sure if Aliu is running this season and it seems like Sydney Stewart after progressing nicely indoors is out again. It good to see Jania Martin run a bit and she is important and could make her way into the 4x100 relay.
I would have loved to see what time Zhane Smith would have run in the 100m but she had the relay and then long jump right after so she couldn't enter in the 100m open.
Syaira Richardson has been much better than last year after injury. I thought she would have qualified for the 400m NCAA indoors after running a nice 52.8 earlier in the indoor season but never really go better. I think it might be more mental than physical with her but we will be ready in the right time.

Not sure what happened with Deshae Wise if she pick up a slight injury or not but I would have loved to see how she would have run in both 100m and 400m hurdles at the relays.
With respect to the 4x400 relay. I agree A&M lost it because of a lack of experience from Laila and that's okay. She will learn and be great and she is still very young. I think they have been changing up the order of the relay from time to time with Young sometimes anchoring. Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete in the sprint medley relay did what Laila was supposed to do hold on to the inside lane and let you opponent work hard on the outside. Avi did great where she drifted slightly on the inside lane so the tu runner had to work extremely hard on the outer lane.

Coach Henry did recognized the 4x400 errors and said

"I've got to put ourselves in better positions to win those kind of races and I think we will be able to run with anybody."

I am hoping to see some improvement in Allon Clay. He has been struggling since being at A&M. Not sure if it is mental with him. tu is trying to show that they have good 800m runners as well.

Also looking forward to see if both Bryce and Katelyn Fairchild will do the discuss and what sort of throws they have in them.
