Did they put Herta's car back together or is he in a backup?

I caught the back half of an interview with him and it kinda sounded like they put it back together and didn't use the backup. Although I think they had to change everything other than the main safety tub so idk at what point it's still considered the "same" car lol

Edit: nevermind, they just said it's a backup but they had to change a lot since it last ran at Long Beach

It is a backup, but they kept what they could salvage.

Palou and Dixon working in tandem like this is gonna be tough to beat

It would seem that Ganassi cars have a good chance at this race, but let's see what happens with pit stops and the eventual yellow. Everyone is driving with great respect so far.

New to this, when's the first pit window?

About lap 30-35 if it stays green. IndyCar does refueling at pitstops so that adds an extra layer to things

Herta has his hands full, not surprising.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with T. Bell's assessment there; car had too much front downforce.

Between going 6 laps longer and now a caution Castroneves is setting himself up well

Going to be a sprint to the finish as Jimmie Johnson crashes with about 6 to go.

I'd be shocked if Jimmie gets another year. Also wouldn't be shocked if Carvana stops paying, with their legal issues.

Man I thought Pato had enough for the move there. Took all of his drivers but Gnassi found a way to win lol

So I'm ignorant. Honda and Chevy are the only 2 manufactures participating in the US circuit? Ford prioritizes NASCAR I assume?

Yes, and because of political reasons stemming from the split and their support of CART/ChampCar, they refuse to enter the modern IndyCar. One of the Ford family members has said as much in the past.

Toyota and VW/Audi are testing the waters.

I was thinking today about those pushrod engines Penske dominated with in the 90s. About that time I saw how far back Power and Newgarden were. Cognitive dissonance.

I attended my first Indy 500 on Sunday and it was amazing! Such a good time! It was awesome to see them blasting by at 220 mph on the main straight. Cars sound really good in person and the track and in person experience is something I highly recommend you do at some point.

Andretti Autosport confirms Kyle Kirkwood for 2023 to replace outgoing Alexander Rossi

We have our first confirmed move for 2023 less than halfway through the 2022 IndyCar season. Following IndyStar's initial report last month, Andretti Autosport confirmed Wednesday the team will welcome Kyle Kirkwood to the No. 27 Honda starting next season, signaling the official exit of Alexander Rossi after seven years with the team.

AutoNation, the No. 27 car's primary sponsor for the past several years, will say on with Kirkwood in 2023.

...

It all came to a head at F1's Miami Grand Prix, where Rossi revealed to IndyStar that he'd decided upon his future home and signed a deal, but couldn't reveal where. Believed to be related, IndyCar has said a "team related press conference" is scheduled for Friday morning in Detroit, thought to be Rossi's coming out party for AMSP on Chevy's home turf.

"This next step for me is going to be a positive one, and I'm excited about what it will bring," Rossi told IndyStar at the Miami Grand Prix.

Most importantly, Rossi said, his decision regarding his future centered on his ability to compete for a title, which he fell just short of in 2018 and 2019 and hasn't been realistically in the hunt for since.

Source
Seems like the rumors to put Rossi in a third full-time McLaren car are starting to come into focus. I'd be shocked if Ganassi didn't give him a call, too.
