That 1500 was pretty amazing. Finke took it to an absolute different level the last 50

Watching live I thought the fourth leg for Australia for sure left early. We touched well before them and she was in the water first. But think we just had that bad of a jump

Surprised there isn't an appeal. The more I look the more it looks like she left early. Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see

I won't compare him to Phelps, but Dressel almost singlehandedly salvaged this Olympics for the US swimming. There were some great moments that didn't involve him, but as far as pure medal count impact, he was huge

These races are so fun to watch. I'm always a little down when the 1st week of the olympics is over and swimming is done

NBC's meters per second said that the British guy was faster than Dressel while Dressel was extending the lead on him. Could their coverage get any worse? #NBCOlympics

You can put him on the men's Mount Rushmore with Spitz, Biondi and Phelps. And he'll be back in 3 years for more!

Haha my wife and I were talking about this. She works for IBM, who I believe sponsors the Olympics, I've been telling her how big of a missed opportunity it was to not have these stats presented by IBM or whatever. We laughed that it's probably for the best that they didn't have the IBM name next to them for that race. How are you swimming slower but gaining ground?!?? We chalked it up to them not being used to having contenders in lane 1 so the calibration being off lol

So our numbers weren't too far off from our history. Australia showed up for sure, but we didn't get our ass kicked. Pretty strong showing once again.

2004 - 28 total (12 gold)

2008 - 31 total (12 gold)

2012 - 31 total (16 gold)

2016 - 33 total (16 gold)

2021 - 30 total (11 gold)

On the morning coverage they said that stat is actually meters per stroke, not meters per second. So technically, it is possible to have a lower meters per stroke but be moving faster if you are taking more strokes. That said, if that is what it is, that stat is deceiving.

If true that is sooooooo dumb.

The funniest guy of the whole Olympics so far is Michael Andrew. Everything about him stands out. Good on the first three strokes in the IM; dies in the final freestyle leg. He's Randomly a good breaststroker. But then also randomly good at short freestyles races the same stroke that he dies on in the IM.

Nonetheless glad he won a gold for the US!

This is the way I would think about it, if I'm at 175M and my competitor is at 173M, we're at different points in the race, so my speed should be a little less than what it was at 173M. I'd rather see acceleration and deceleration rates.

I'm hoping for us that this help Nesty get over the hump in recruit some big names. Finke and a Smith were Troy's guys.
But nine medals is a pretty good advertisement.

When I was younger I loved track the most. Swimming was just a prelude to it. But that's pretty much completely flipped for me, and now I feel like you. Swimming's lots of fun, especially the relays.

Yeah, thanks to 4 different styles + layering in the IM, swimming just has a much higher volume of shorter, competitive races and how they play out is pretty much always exciting. T&F has its moments but it's not even close in my book.
