Really? If you look at her I saw relief in her eyes, poise and attitude once she made the decision much different when an athlete has to quit g go or a physical cause.

If you're gonna quit, quit before it's already started. Give someone else a shot who isn't afraid.
I wish she had been able to address her issues or to make the decision to withdraw sooner.
But if she's all messed up mentally and isn't able to spot the ground, that's really dangerous at her level. Failing to execute in most sports means bad numbers, times, unforced errors, etc. In elite gymnastics bailing out of trick or balking mid-trick gets you serious head and neck injuries (and worse).
Julissa Gomez's injury and death years ago is a tragic example of what can happen when you make a mistake. And there are other similar cases in the men's gymnastics world. If you're not able to consistently execute difficult tricks with confidence, the consequences are real.
Love to hear more from the elite level (of former elite level) gymnasts on the thread who have firsthand experience throwing double doubles (or similar) when you lose your sense of rotational awareness and confidence.
I was a competitive gymnast, but was terrible and never got high enough or fast enough to do anything close to what Biles does so can't relate haha....

Yep and something that is crazy to me is that we've never had a repeat medalist in the All-Around Individual either. No American has finished on the podium twice.

The broadcast just said Mykayla Skinner gets to take Simone's spot for vault. So excited for that!
I was afraid Skinner had left the country since they are making athletes finished competing leave within 48 hours. She finished 4th in qualifying but did not make the vault finals because there were 2 American ahead of her..On the bars the first reserve is French, on the beam the first reserve is Japanese and on the floor the first reserve is British. That's what I gleaned from the qualifying results on Olympics.com.
Skinner wins silver in the vault. Suni Lee wins Bronze in the uneven bars which is a big upset
