Please don't apologize! I think distance is much more strategic and interesting to watch because of all the opportunities for something big to happen. I hope one day ESPN will realize that as well. It always seems the big move happens on commercial break and we miss all the action.

I've been following track and field live since 1961. By far the best event I've ever witnessed in person was the 10000 m in the 1996 Olympics. The TV networks do a really abysmal job (especially Dwight Stone ) in covering track and field.

Stones and ESPN have definitely improved on broadcasting... but as their knowledge of other events ha simple over their biases has developed. They will only talk about one athlete or one school the entire time.
We might be one of the favorite for nationals but all we're gonna hear about is LSU and their sprints and hurdles it's going to be unbearable

Aggies represented by the experienced senior, William Petersson, and the freshman STUD Sam Hankins. Based on qualifying marks Sam is coming in 3 spots and just 10 cm outside of 12th place to make it to Eugene and Will is sitting at 28th about 5.5 m away but he has made it to Nationals before and hopefully the week off during SECs has gotten him ready to throw big. I'm liking the home field advantage for this important event for us. Also worth noting some of the guys sitting just ahead of Sam based on season bests were from early in the year and haven't been as consistent. Dylan Kipp of Montana threw 70.2 in March and has not thrown above 65 since and Kyle Morris threw 70.23 in early April but since has thrown 59.9, 60.8 and 65.3. Compared to Sam who has had his top 3 throws all in the past 3 meets.

Nice, one less event for me to type out haha! I really hope William Petersson can ge track to his old self, I'm hoping the time off helped and he can unleash a monster throw this week! I think a 225+ should get through!
HIGH JUMP NCAA WEST PREVIEW
Lots of Aggies will be competing in this event with the men on Friday and women on Saturday. Usually in this event once the competition cuts down to 12 most athletes will stop, so it's a quick competition with the bar moving up fast. I could see the top 12 heights for the men at 7'1 or over and for the women 5'10. Those in attendance won't get to see Ju'vaughn Harrison or Darryl Sullivan go 7'8, but could see several 7'5 jumpers.
On the women's side, the Aggies are ranked 1-2 with Tyra Gittens leading the NCAA at 6'4.75 and Lamara Distin 3rd in the nation at 6'2.25. Both should qualify very easily and only on a few jumps. So little wear and tear on the body. Arizona will also have a trio of jumpers, and USC will have two.
On the men's side the Aggies will be led by freshman Carter Bajoit of The Woodlands who's ranked 20th. He has a personal best of 7'0.5, and a 7'1 leap is definitely in reach! Baijoit rarely misses at opening heights so that may be beneficial. Also competing for the Ags is Mason Corbin and Jake Lamberth whos ranked 28th and who's best is 6'11.50. Our men got great heat assignments and should easily win both their relays, which is good news! Since the top 3 in each heat advance plus 6 next times in individual races I'd say lane assignment isn't that big a deal, but Dewitt Thomas got a rough draw. The other 400 and 400 hurdles guys all got great lane assignments. The women's 4x400 got lane 9 but should still be okay regardless and win their heat easily. The 4x100 should have a good chance advancing and got a great lane draw in lane 6 and will have USC to push them on their outside! Laila Owens got a poor draw in lane 3 of the 200 as did Tierra Robinson-Jones in the 400 in lane 2 but both should advance and the rest of the girls got good lane draws. Syaira who hopefully is healthy has two 51 girls in her heat so she has to run a great race! Also love Cinyamon, Lajarvia and Lamara being in a separate heat from the top 16 triple jumpers as they were ranked 17th, 19th, and 20th. One of them is bound to jump a huge one and get into the top 12!
POLE VAULT NCAA WEST PREVIEW
We don't have Audie Wyatt or Jacob Wooten to rely on for national points anymore. But we have a couple guys competing on Wednesday! We have Sean Clarke a grad transfer from Penn who did qualify to nationals in 2019! His experience will be huge. He has a personal best of 18'0 but has a SB of 17'9 which has his ranked 3rd with qualifying jumps. As alluded in the high jump and what Zephyr said in the javelin review, many athletes will have their best performances early in the year. So come prelims it's who's having a good day! I think a 17'8 should qualify to nationals, so Sean needs to be at his best as he'll be looking for redemption after clearing no heights at conference! He'll also need to have little misses which he struggles with, so he'll need to be at or above his PR. Also competing for the Ags is Michael Schmuhl a freshman with a PB of 17'1! Schmuhl needs to PR in a couple of days! Kansas will have two excellent vaulters led by Zach Bradford competing, 3 athletes from South Dakota colleges will be at the top as well. It is imperative our guys have no misses and have a clean efficient day with PR's!
No Aggies will be competing on the women's side but we will be getting a phenomenal freshman in Heather Abadie who has a PB of 13'9!! The women's completion will be led by the Arkansas duo of Natassja Campbell and Lauren Martinez who have PB's of 14'10 and 14'8. Arkansas will have 5 girls competing so hopefully only those 2 girls above will get through. A 13'9/13'9 should be enough to get to nationals!

DISCUS/SHOT PUT NCAA WEST PREVIEW
We'll only have one Aggie competing in a throwing event that's not javelin, and that is Schulenburg's own Josh Brown in the men's discus! Josh Brown comes into the meet ranked 19th with a 186'1 and just over a meter or 3.5 feet behind 12th place. It will help him tremendously that this is his home throwing ring and he knows how to manage the winds here. I think a 184-187 should be the qualifying throw and I hope/think Josh has a shot to reach that! The men's discus and shot put will be lead by one the nation's best in Arizona State's Turner Washington who has a whopping PB of 217'1 in discus and shot put throw of 69'1! Former Aggie Gabe Oladipo who transferred to Texas Tech is ranked 6th with a 193. Next year we should have Bryce Foster throwing in this meet but for now no men and women will be contesting the shot put.
On the women's side Jorinde Van Klinken of Arizona State and Laulauga Tausaga of Iowa will dominate the discus completion as both have thrown well over 200! Former Aggie Serena Brown who transferred to Iowa is ranked 9th with a 188'5! We did lose two great discus throwers in Brown and Oladipo. The women's shot put will be a throat cut competitor as the top 11 are only separated by 3 feet. Samantha Noening of Arizona is a name to watch along with Van Klinklen and Tausaga.

Ruth Usoro has jumped a crazy 47'7 to lead the nation and Acquah sits in 4th in the nation with a 46'4.25! Also competing for the Aggies is Lamara Distin, Cinyamon Stevenson, and Lajarvia Brown!!! The girls are ranked 17th, 19th, and 20th, with jumps of 43'5, 43'4, and 43'3, respectively. But the competition in this event is so tight that only a couple inches ahead separates them from the top 12! Lajarvia and Cinyamon have competed in the event on this stage before and qualified in 2019! They started the year off shaky with fouls but have looked good their last two meets! I feel a low 43 should be enough to qualify! Having experience on our runways will help like tremendously and if our girls show up on Saturday hopefully we can advance a couple, possibly even more to Eugene!!

The qualifying mark should be around 21'3. Also competing is Taryn Milton who's ranked 32nd with a 20'6.5! It should be a great event for our ladies! Tyra and Deborah are ranked 2nd and 3rd behind Tara Davis the US leader and NCAA record holder! Triple jump phenom Ruth Usoro will give our girls some competition as well!

from what I found on social media right now lol, he messed up his shoulder (I don't know how) and had to get surgery on his throwing shoulder in early November. Sucks to see as he was primed to do huge things this year, possibly even score at nationals, but I know he'll bounce back and thankfully the surgery was in the fall so hopefully he could have a huge tear next season and be able to train! I don't know the extent to the injury just that it required surgery! We should have a healthy Nick and Sam Hankins off a solid freshman year!aggierun said:

110/100 METER HURDLES NCAA WEST PREVIEW
Not as strong as our 400 hurdles but still a solid event here for the Aggies where we'll have a couple females competing and one male. On the women's side, it's been a VERY competitive year across the NCAA with crazy fast times. Running for us will be an Oregon transfer in Kaylah Robinson and a Notre Dame transfer in Summer Thorpe! Kaylah Robinson was 3 spots from advancing to Nationals in 2019! She has a PB of 13.05 which ranked her 13th just a tenth off of 12th! I think she has what it takes to qualify but has struggles in the past when running with faster girls. She is also the second leg of our sprint relay! Summer Thorpe qualified to nationals in 2019 and is ranked 17th with a 13.15! Both girls have potential to qualify if they run a solid race near or faster than their PR's. They can't have a bad day! The completion is just so fast this year, there's no room for error. Kennedy Smith would have qualified but tore her ACL a month ago, Tyra Gittens has also posted a qualifying time but scratched to focus on her other events! Arkansas and USC will each have 3 girls in the mix that I will have my eye on!
On the men's side we have sensational freshman Connor Schulman! He is ranked 16th with a 13.76 but ran that way early in the year. The qualifying time should be around the 13.65-13.70 mark so I hope Connor saved his best race for last and is able to PR. There are 8 seniors ranked ahead of him, so Connor is our future in this event! The top hurdlers are on the east side but there will still be quality runners from Iowa and Arkansas competing!

400 METER HURDLES NCAA WEST PREVIEW
In one of our top events in recent history, this year is no different! We've been rated the top men's school in this event for most of the season! This has been a deep field for this event with many going under 50! This event is huge for our men in terms of national scoring!
Leading the Aggies and the NCAA is Moitalel "King Mo" Mpoke with his Olympic standard time of 48.89! Mo showed his speed and grit at the conference championship last week! With his 800 endurance and 400 speed he has the power to run this race 4 more times and win them all! Also running for the Aggies is Arizona transfer James Smith! He has a SB of 49.95 but missed approximately 2 months with injury before coming back for conference. He did look a little out of shape, so hopefully these last two weeks were good for him! Because with him at full strength we have a scary duo in this event! He's been at this meet before and even places 5th at nationals with a 49.67! Also competing is Dewitt Thomas who's ranked 26th after only running this race at conference! He's been at this meet before as well! Hopefully he can bounce back and run a huge race! Also racing and ranked 30th is fabulous freshman Kirk Collins. His PB is 51.49, but in the prelims was leading at the time NCAA leader Sean Burrell before clipping the 8th hurdle. So if he puts it together he has a sub 50.5 time in him! He's my darkhorse for this meet, so keep an eye on him! Expect the qualifying time to be around 50 even or 50.15!
On the women's side we will see 3 of the nations top runners that all come from the PAC12 led by USC's Anna Cockrell with a time of 54.77. She's the defending NCAA champ and should be a finalist at the Trials! Behind her is Shae Anderson of UCLA with a 55.21! Also in the hunt will our own freshman star Dominique Mustin who's ranked with a 57.52! She has a long time off running the hurdles before conference, but I feel at her peak she can go under 57 and solidify her spot at nationals although a 57.7/57.9 should qualify!

4x100 RELAYS NCAA WEST PREVIEW
One of the most exciting events, and us Aggies have reason to be excited! Relays are a bit different in this competition as it's only one round and 24 teams, with the best 12 advancing to nationals!
Our men's relay has looked great this year and we can easily put together a national scoring relay! We have the 3rd fastest time in the nation and 2nd fastest in the west behind Houston. Emmanuel Yeboah should lead off, with Devon Achane 2nd leg, Lance Broome 3rd leg, and Ryan Martin 4th leg. If Jace Comick is good and fast enough to go he would be 3rd and Broome will anchor although I think we stay with the former lineup! The guys ran well at SEC's even with a shaky first handoff! Achane has been dealing with a sore hamstring that somewhat limited him at conference but it should be a little better now! Given better handoffs and a healthier Achane this group has potential to medal at nationals and score some huge points. Houston will be tough to beat, but at our best it will be a great competition!! We will be in separate heats, but we got lane 5 and they have 3! Crazy thing is that this entire group will be back next season as well!
Our girls have the 12th fastest 4x100 in the nation and 6th in the west! Our girls relay should consist of Zhane Smith 1st leg, Kaylah Robinson 2nd leg, Laila Owens 3rd, with Immanuela Aliu as the anchor. If Owens is unable to go full speed, Rachel Hall or Jasmine Logan will take over the 3rd leg. Zhane and Kaylah looked perfect on the first and second leg in conference but without Owens we lost ground on the third leg. Aliu started the season beautifully before taking time off for injury, but she's been getting better each week. One of the most exciting events, and us Aggies have reason to be excited! Relays are a bit different in this competition as it's only one round and 24 teams, with the best 12 advancing to nationals!
Our men's relay has looked great this year and we can easily put together a national scoring relay! We have the 3rd fastest time in the nation and 2nd fastest in the west behind Houston. Emmanuel Yeboah should lead off, with Devon Achane 2nd leg, Lance Broome 3rd leg, and Ryan Martin 4th leg. If Jace Comick is good and fast enough to go he would be 3rd and Broome will anchor although I think we stay with the former lineup! The guys ran well at SEC's even with a shaky first handoff! Achane has been dealing with a sore hamstring that somewhat limited him at conference but it should be a little better now! Given better handoffs and a healthier Achane this group has potential to medal at nationals and score some huge points. Houston will be tough to beat, but at our best it will be a great competition!! We will be in separate heats, but we got lane 5 and they have 3! Crazy thing is that this entire group will be back next season as well!
Our girls have the 12th fastest 4x100 in the nation and 6th in the west! Our girls relay should consist of Zhane Smith 1st leg, Kaylah Robinson 2nd leg, Laila Owens 3rd, with Immanuela Aliu as the anchor. If Owens is unable to go full speed, Rachel Hall or Jasmine Logan will take over the 3rd leg. Zhane and Kaylah looked perfect on the first and second leg in conference but without Owens we lost ground on the third leg. Aliu started the season beautifully before taking time off for injury, but she's been getting better each week. 4x400 RELAYS NCAA WEST PREVIEW
Last race, best race! An event the Aggies have always done well. We're the reigning national champions in this even on both the girls and women's side. This event could just determine the entire national championship picture. Hopefully our girls have taken care of business beforehand, but this race may need a victory for us to clinch a national championship.
Our girls lead the west, and lead the nation with their world leading time of 3:26.17. That relay was ran by Tierra Robinson-Jones, Charokee Young, Jaevin Reed, and Athing Mu. Our girls will easily advance to nationals here. Even so, Mu was not pushed at the finish so she only ran a 49.9 to anchor. Robinson-Jones ran a crazy fast first leg and went low 51! If she can continue to lead off like that, and Charokee can take care of business, this group should easily be under 3:25! A healthy Syaira Richardson can help bring this group to national record pace. We won't need to go as fast here, as we're just trying to qualify. USC, Arkansas and Texas will all have just as an easy chance to advance through. USC hasn't ran the best time, but they have the pieces to easily go 3:25/3:26! So the national championship race can come down to us two in that race.
Our men began the year, as well as indoor, not looking like it's dominant self on this relay. But they ran an amazing time at conference of 3:01.73 that is 5th in the nation, and 2nd in the west. That relay consisted of Moitalel Mpoke, Devin Dixon, Omajuwa Etiwe, and Bryce Deadmon. Deadmon ran a wild 43.8 anchor leg as he was chasing down Kentucky. Devin Dixon as we all know has started the year off shaky and his 4x400 legs are not what they used to be. In 2019 Dixon would be able to catch anyone or hold off anyone, but he's one of our weaker legs at the moment. The good thing is that he's been improving each week as he runs, so I think he has his best races ahead of him. If Mpoke can lead off well and Dixon looks stronger this group has sub 3:00 potential. Crazy thing is LSU and North Carolina A&T both should be under 3:00 as well, so expect a crazy finish here at nationally as well! In the west side Friday, Texas and Baylor should run great legs along with!

It's meet day and we kick things off at 1:30 in the javelin with Sam Hankins and William Petersson! Then the pole vault at 3:00 with Sean Clarke and Michael Schmuhl! ITS MEET DAY!
After heat one in the men's javelin the leading throw is a 209 even. William Petersson will compete right now in heat two, then Sam Hankins in the third and last heat. Let's hope our jav boys are ready to rock and roll!

After heat two of the javelin the winning throw is a simple 213'7! The throwers with the top marks are left in this last heat. If Sam Hankins can beat 213'7 and 4 other guys out of the 16 in the heat we will advance to nationals! Let's hope he has a good 3 throws! Only one out of 32 have PR'd today so the field is struggling, good thing Sam is on his everyday practice runway! Should start in 20-30 minutes!
