Incredible! Achane wasn't even close to his SB though.

Lots of pushing and shoving early in this men's 5k. Looks like Kiprop from Bama may have gotten DQed.

The Arkansas runner started it by putting his arm out to block the Alabama runner, then later on another Arkansas runner pushed him in the back.

The only way we can beat Arkansas and win an SEC championship is to get a couple of good distance runners even if we get some from Africa and some good sprint and hurdlers. We definitely can't do it with a few events but being able to score across the boards.
Alabama has been doing it and are getting close to Arkansas in the scoring

Deadmon went 43.82 on the last lap! Once Dixon gets his strength back and Omajuwa Etiwe will only have this race to worry on we can go under 3:00 at nationals!

Great run by the women. The announcers finally had to acknowledge A&M was on the track in the last 50 meters.

Isn't that the truth, they did everything they could to ignore A&M! Great run by the women with a fantastic time.

You are correct. No mention of the Ags until the last 50. It's a good thing I wasn't there because Dwight Stones was around in my day. If I would have seen him I would have slapped him.

My performances of the day

Men - Moitalel Mpoke - no words!! Olympic Standard. Collegiate Best. School Record. Couldn't be more happier for that man. He also gets the highest amount of cheers from his teammates!

Women - Lamara Distin - Personal Best in the high jump with a clearance of 6'2.25 with no misses till that height! She's now number 3 in the country. She simultaneously competed in the triple jump and didn't perform as well there but still went back and forth and had a huge foul! Doing that is what the Aggie Spirit is about!

Also glad many other posters joined in it warms my heart to see many watch and want to know about this amazing sport. There's never any dumb questions or comments so always feel free to post.

Next up is the national prelims which will be a 4 day meet here in College Station! The top 48 athletes in each event in the west region will compete there. The country is split in two regions east and west! We are in the west and from there the top 12 athletes qualify to nationals in Oregon! It's going to be a great month for Aggie track!

I was listening to something else, so I didn't hear the commentary. Given we were leading after every split, I have no clue why the announcers were ignoring us. I'm not sure why a high jumper is moderating on a track event anyway.

For those who are commenting about our not winning the SEC, the women won in 2013 and the men in 2017. However, the men won the NCAA's in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and tied for first in 2017. The women won in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 and finished second in 2013.

There are only 18 women's track, field and cross country scholarships and 12.6 for the men. On our roster on the 12th man, there are a whooping 57 women and 71 men listed as being on our team. Arkansas has over 50 men; I didn't count the women. Four of the Arkansas men are from Kenya - all distance runners - big surprise. Arkansas is an annual power at the men's and women's cross country championships, and they bring those runners to the 3000, 5000, and 10,000 in the SEC meet.

I believe Pat H. is recruiting to win national championships. In the last ten years, we've usually beaten teams at the NCAA's who have beaten us at the conference meets. A&M is counting on the smaller and less powerful track schools who compete strongly in cross country, to dilute the effect of the distance runners from Arkansas and Alabama. If you look at the cross country results, I believe the Pig's fastest man was 5th and the woman was 17th.

Henry's strategy means you mostly recruit to win or at least place in the top three at the NCAA level. It's really unfairly weighted to the sprinters, as one person could get top points in the 100m, 200m, and on the 4x100m relay. So one person could possibly be responsible for 30 points at a national meet - potentially halfway to an NCAA championship. It's harder to do at a middle distance as we found out with Mu; she can't run the 400, 800 and 4x400 relay in the same day while the three sprint races are done all the time. Sprinters often are good long jumpers, too, although right now that doesn't seem to happen as often.

Looking at the current favorites, LSU is favored for both men and women, basically because of the sprinting points. Our women are third behind USC, and the men are 10th. We need all our ladies to stay healthy and give their best performances, and we need some help from other schools to take away LSU points.

Great post! And the USATFCCA rankings are always a little off because they don't include people running in other events that they don't normally do! I think with Lamara improving and Tyra and Deborah looking like a medalist in the long jump... I think we could win!

Also the LSU men are going to win the national meet by over 50 points, they will win almost 8 events and they finished 3rd in the SEC... conference championships DONT correlate to national championships, just ask Arkansas

Flash results combines the first and second leg, but Jaevin Reed went 52.86 and Mu went 49.96! Omajuwa Etiwe went 45.92 and Bryce Deadmon went 43.82!

Our women absolutely have a shot. We can score more points than we did indoors and that usually gives you a chance.

Will be nice actually having some other distance schools in the outdoor meet other than just Arkansas...I believe having the NCAA XC meet in the spring may have cost us a national title indoors.

some more on this. As Mpoke fell in celebration... he then proceeds to acknowledge the crowd as the SEC media member was trying to grab him! Then another one comes and starts pointing him to camera set up and then he started shaking his head and ran to the athletes tent! then the SEC people looked upset and started blaming each other that they couldn't get him for an interview

3 of the relays ran 2 heats since there were more than 9 entries. In the first heat of the women's 4 X 100 relay South Carolina was in lane 6 and Missouri in lane 7. Except that Missouri's anchor set up in lane 4. Both the 3rd leg and anchor were surprised when they saw each other. Would be interesting to find out how that happened. It took a long time to make the relay results final so I assume Missouri was protesting that the officials set them up in the wrong lane.

The teams get hip numbers that denote the lane they are in before the race. It seems impossible that they would have been given different numbers. I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.

absolutely, I think that knocks Arkansas out of the competition... even their sprinters didn't have the best day! I say our two biggest competitors will be USC who has two sprinters in the 100/200 that are elite, and almost 3 400 runners, the top 400 hurdler and elite 100 hurdles! LSU will be another earning many points in the hurdles and sprints so hopefully they can beat each other up there and split some points whil Mu, Tyra, and Acquah do their thing. Lamara, Charokee, and the relays can help out as well!

When I inevitably get bored studying for one of my finals tomorrow, I'll compose a list of which athletes have a great shot at qualifying to the NCAA prelims and how that shakes up our national standing!
