Championships start Tuesday, February 19 in Athens, GA. Women looking for their 4th straight title, Men looking for their 1st win. Legitimate chance to sweep both, which hasn't happened for 1 school since Auburn in 2008.

Can anyone who follows the ladies and mens swimming and diving teams say how we are doing relative to expectations?

It seems like the ladies are doing well, but I have no idea what their expectations are. The same is true for the men.

I think you have those with the most knowledge, posting on this thread, already.

If halco87 indicates we have a shot to win both... then we have a shot.

Some background... the Women are reigning 3-time champions ('16, '17, '18) having beaten Georgia after their 6 consecutive SEC Championships. Georgia was 2nd in '17 & '18. The meet is in Georgia, so just that alone tells me it is likely to go down to the final events.

I think we'll know more after tonight.

    Current Standings for the Women
    Texas A&M: 441.5
    Tennessee: 393.5
    Florida: 388.5
    Georgia: 334.5
    Auburn: 329

    Finals tonight for the Women
    Event #16 400 IM
    A): A&M (1); Tenn (2); Florida (3); Georgia (0), Auburn (1)
    B): A&M (1); Tenn (1); Florida (1); Georgia (1), Auburn (0)

    Event #18 100 Fly
    A): A&M (1); Tenn (2); Florida (0); Georgia (2), Auburn (1)
    B): A&M (2); Tenn (0); Florida (1); Georgia (1), Auburn (1)
    C): A&M (0); Tenn (2); Florida (0); Georgia (0), Auburn (0)

    Event #20 200 Free
    A): A&M (2); Tenn (1); Florida (2); Georgia (1), Auburn (1)
    B): A&M (2); Tenn (1); Florida (1); Georgia (1), Auburn (1)
    C): A&M (1); Tenn (0); Florida (3); Georgia (1), Auburn (0)

    Total Finals tonight
    A): A&M (4); Tenn (5); Florida (5); Georgia (3), Auburn (3)
    B): A&M (5); Tenn (2); Florida (3); Georgia (3), Auburn (2)
    C): A&M (2); Tenn (3); Florida (3); Georgia (2), Auburn (1)

As you look over the next few days, our Breast 100/200 is quite strong.

I think from the Men's point... I haven't followed them closely. We finished 2nd last year, and there has been optimism expressed by the new additions.

Meet mobile, as well. That allows you to look at individual swimmers to see what they've done.

If you are more of a browser person... the following works:

    https://www.sidearmstats.com/ugeorgia/swimming/

At the bottom, it will tell you the Team Scores.

    For today:

    Women:
    1.) Texas A&M: 618.5
    2.) Florida: 561.5 (-57) <- An increase from -53, after yesterday
    3.) Tennessee: 557.5 (-61) <- An increase from -48, after yesterday
    4.) Georgia: 471.5 (-147) <- An increase from -107, after yesterday
    5.) Auburn: 447 (-171.5) <-An increase from -112.5, after yesterday

So, the Ags increased their lead over 2nd from 48 points (Tenn) to 57 points (Florida).

    Tomorrow:
    200 Fly:
    #2 Taylor Pike: 1:54.05
    #3 Jing Quah: 1:54.92
    #21 Camryn Toney: 1:59.39

    Emma Carlton
    Amanda Armstrong

    100 Breast:

Should be a fun day in the pool.

I think Florida will close the gap some through Event #36 (100 Free), but won't catch the Ags. Then in the 200 Breast... should be a show for the Ags.

Look at the seed times for Pickrem and Belousova. 3rd Seed is 2:08.04. 9th is Powers at 2:11.47.

I think it is really down to us and Florida, so I'll narrow the info.

Great job by both the Men and the Ladies.

Congrats to the women. It will be nice to see how many qualify for NCAAs.

For the men... as a team, Florida seems to have some great depth... Probably too much to beat, this year.

I think we have some great swimmers, and the future looks bright. We had a number a great performances by the men and I don't want those to go without being recognized.

The SEC is a great swim conference for both Men and Women and I love to see the competition.

As DallasAg 94 said, the men still had a strong meet. Of major note was Benjamin Walker claiming the first SEC swimming title for A&M, individual or relay, in the 200 breaststroke, They've won some diving titles the past 7 years, but never a swimming title. Also took down 4 of 5 school records in the relays as well as in the 100/200/500 freestyles, 200 back and 400 IM. Things are really looking up on that front.

As far as potential NCAA qualifiers, here's what it looks like with still one week of the qualifying period left for the women and 2 weeks for the men:

The following women have posted times faster than last year's invited time in at least 1 event. A cut is automatically in, for others I've listed their time this year versus last year's cutoff in their best qualifying event. As a reminder, as long as you are invited to the meet in one event you can swim up to 2 more individual events if you have at least an NCAA B standard in those events.

    Women
    Belousova - A cut 100/200 Breast
    DeBever - 200 IM 1:55.74 2018 cut: 1:56.76
    Gonzalez-Hermosillo - 400 IM 4:05.55 2018 cut: 4:09.75
    Pickrem - A cut 200/400 IM, 200 Breast
    Pike - 200 Fly 1:54.05 2018 cut: 1:55.99
    Portz - 200 Free 1:44.57 2018 cut: 1:44.90
    Powers - 100 Breast 59.93 2018 cut: 1:00.11
    Quah - 200 Fly 1:54.29
    Rasmus - 200 Free 1:43.96
    Roubique - 100 Breast 1:00.00
    Toney - 400 IM 4:07.04
    Yelle - 500 Free 4:37.92 2018 cut: 4:40.57

    Men
    Bobo - 200 Free 1:34.41 2018 cut: 1:34.44
    Casas - 200 Back 1:39.84 2018 cut: 1:41.18
    Koster - 100 Free 42.38 2018 cut: 42.71
    Martinez - 200 Fly 1:41.68 2018 cut: 1:42.60
    Theall - 200 Free 1:33.91
    Thibert - 50 Free 19.31 2018 cut: 19.36
    Walker - 200 Breast 1:52.55 2018 cut: 1:54.45

I believe both teams are allowed to bring up to 4 uninvited swimmers to swim on relays only. Any invited swimmer or relay only swimmers can participate on up to 4 of the 5 relays.

Some of the Aggie women still have a shot at qualifying based on the 2018 invite times are:
Emma Carlton 52.59 in 100 fly (Invite 52.41)
Caroline Thiel 2.11.71 in 200 breast from swim off (Invite 2.10.14)
Joy Field 16.14.21 in 1650 free (invite 16.12.53)
Sara Metzsch 52.95 in 100 back (invite 52.54)
Raena Eldridge 22.49 in 50 free (invite 22.30)
Surprising Raena Eldridge haven't swum faster in the 50 free having anchored the 200 medley relay in 21.39

I assume they would be competing in a last chance meet soon to together with those that didn't make the SEC team.
