I still can't believe the Mercs lapped a Ferrari on their fight to the finish. I know kimi has not liked that car. But still.

Oh and this double points thing is utterly ridiculous.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! I was at turn 11 during the first F1 race at COTA. That day really got me interested in F1.

I got a pretty close view of Paul Newman in the paddock when I volunteered at the 2007 Houston GP. He was taller than I expected. Also, he walked to the paddock, but his boy Bourdais rode a minibike.

Well tomorrow should be interesting after that! I expect fireworks

What do you think? Did he do it on purpose?
Silver Arrows

Ehh if he did do it on purpose he really sold it as an accident. I think it was a mistake that he was willing to make. Reversing on a live track is something I'm surprised the stewards didn't say anything about.
Wolfman03

I also don't think it was intentional. Faking an almost accident would be a pretty risky way to throw off your teammate from taking the pole...especially since it is likely he would still be on the front row even if Hamilton did take the pole.

I will say that Hamilton was PISSED in that press conference!

Like the European press needs more fodder for conflict between those two.

The Toro Rosso guys impressed me today.

This F1 doc on NBCSN is absolutely terrifying.

Stuck chaperoning a high school party, I really wanted to see that. I hope it gets replayed. Do any of you remember the movie "The Quick And The Dead"? That was pretty intense.

Monaco was a snoozer. F1 is a playground for the rich, but dull as mud for the spectators.

Monaco is not a great race anymore. But you are way off base sharp about the sport.

Did anyone else find it interesting near the end of the race when Hamilton's crew told him the gap between him and Ricciardo and Hamilton said he didn't care - he only wanted to know his gap to Nico?

Ricciardo was breathing down his neck by the end of the race. One error by Hamilton and Ricciardo would have been in second.

I think that was before he (Hamilton) started having vision problems, allowing DR to catch up, maybe? I could be wrong, though.

No he was already having vision problems. I just think it was hammys ultra competitiveness. He knows this season is between him and nico.

Very surprised hammy slipped up on his last lap. Really thought he would snag pole. Should be a hell of a dog fight again tomorrow.

Wow. Great drive by Ricciardo.
Sucks for Williams, that was a wicked crash.
I almost feel sorry for Hamilton, almost.

That crash - WOW! It is amazing that neither driver was seriously injured. One quote I saw from Smedley with Williams was that there were 27G's in Massa's car in that impact.

The Mercedes battle was quite fun to watch once again until the loss of power and Hamilton's brake failure. While that battle was fun to watch, I was very happy to see Ricciardo take 1st and Vettel 3rd. The smiles on both of their faces was a refreshing sight on the podium compared to the recent scowls of whichever Mercedes car came in second.

Ditto that re: the podium. I know those guys want to win every race, but come on. Pouting is never a good look.

The 2 hour F1 Documentary is on NBC Sports Network at 9:30 Friday (7-4) morning. Very good film for the F1 fan.

I think the '70's was kind of a dark Camelot era in motorsports given personalities and horrific crashes at Indy and in F1. I grew up a huge Jackie Stewart and A J Foyt fan. And trust me, it was hard to follow racing growing up on the bayous of SE Texas.
To see images of the Glen crash of Cevert, who was literally cut in half, was just gut wrenching.
Racing is much safer now and much more of a business. Safer is of course welcomed and much needed. But I think racing, especially F1, has lost some of it's romanticism.
That said, I still get up early on race weekends to watch qualifying and the feature.

I was out of town most of June, so I just got caught up with the last 2 races before the UK race last week, then watched the British GP yesterday.

Hamilton fans will be glad to see that Rosberg got hit with the bad luck bug for once, I'm betting. Hamilton almost ruined his race before it started with the decision not to finish his final lap in Q3, but it worked out for him. His pace on the primes in the race was incredible. Should be a great fight between the Mercs for the rest of the season for the WDC.

Great battle between Alonso and Vettel towards the end of the race (aside from the whining both were doing on the radio, of course).
Wolfman03

I agree with both statements - fantastic driving by Seb and Alonso AND the whining on both sides was a bit much.

Glad that Kimi will be OK after his nasty wreck and how about that Gutierrez and Maldonado almost accident? Those guys like running into each other this year!

I DVR'd the F1 documentary on 7/4 and finally watched it this morning before Qualifying. What a great and terrifying documentary.

The eerie thing was seeing Hamilton in the documentary make a comment that he is not worried about crashes and injuries...and then watching him crash in the first round of qualifying today. It really is true that the technology has come a long way to make racing safer for the drivers.
