Great win by the team vs UCLA. Curious to know why on earth Stanford is seeded 12th when their singles 1 through 5 are NCAA ranked, as well as their 1 and 2 doubles teams? On paper, they are the team to beat. I reviewed their losses and they had a 4-3 loss to #9 California, a 4-2 loss to then #4 Florida, a 6-1 loss #6 USC, and a 4-3 loss to #45 St. Mary's (didn't dig deep into that, but I would venture to say they had some players missing for that one).

They recently beat UCLA by the same score we did...4-3...should be a good match, but, like I said, on paper, they came across as the clear favorites even though we are the higher ranked team with one less loss.

BTHO Stanford!

^^I was wondering the same thing, especially since they beat UCLA earlier in the year. They are easily a top 5 seed and a top 10 seed at minimum.

I hope Joffe uses that to pitch the underdog role to the team. With the amount of freshmen in the lineup they need an "us versus the world" mentality, IMO.

Good luck, ladies! Hope my daughter gets to look at some hardware when she's at camp this summer! BTHOS!!!!!

Monarch, yours too brings too much a mental visual picture into focus. But we didn't lose, it's like football, we never lose we ran out of scoring. The fish this year certainly did their job, hopefully the recruits Howard and Mark have coming in can fill CSQ's, Naz's and Sun's shoes somewhat. I'd hate to replace a .857 winning percentage at the top of the order. In the picture on Aggieathletics.com Stancu still looked pissed for the trophy photo. The accomplishments this team has done is beyond remarkable, yet I still feel like I just ate one of toad's turds.

Question: Does A&M have an indoor tennis facility?

I know that we hosted NCAA's a few years ago. Where would they play had it rained?

^^They're adjacent to Chicago, so I'm sure there were arrangements, if U. of Illinois didn't have indoor courts to begin with.

Solid solid year ladies, you did what we all didn't expect and more. The good thing about this match is that 2 out of our 3 Freshmen won their matches in the biggest match of them all. Stancu comes back to prove all the doubters wrong next year, and although we lose big time players in Naz and CSQ, our freshman will be even better, and hopefully the recruits we get can contribute immediately like the twins did this year.

I think this match, especially the fact that it went 4-3, sets up A&M tennis for success in the near future with incoming talent and more exposure.

Urbana's actually ~150 miles from Chicago.

Looks like U of I actually had an indoor facility first and the outdoor facility wasn't built until 2009. (Could have misread - was just skimming the page.)

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Perhaps bad grammar. I meant to ask about the A&M indoor facility.

Drunk, the indoor facility for tennis is one that has been on and off the drawing boards for that last 4 or 5 years. Bottom line it all comes down to mullah, greenbacks, and dollars. Tennis is like #4 on the peeking order to be addressed, and what with a half a BILLION to refurbish Kyle the only way the indoor would move up and maybe be seriously addressed before 2025 is if someone were to put up the money for that exact purpose. I want to say in '09, or '10 a concept drawing was actually prepared and is on show in the Players’ Lounge at the Mitchell tennis center. That concept structure at the time is presented cost around $3 to $3.5M. Every year it doesn't get built that price only goes up. The facility is slotted to be built adjacent to the stadium courts on the north side of the complex. The building going up just beyond that area supposedly allows just enough room to make the indoors a reality, but from my guesstimate, it's still going to be really REALLY tight fit in there. So long as it comes to fruition though is the main thing. Our run this year was phenomenal and our rise over the last 3 years unbelievable. The way to move up the peeking order is to maintain that level of results consistently, look at the equestrian center. Mitchell had some major repairs/improvements done 3 years ago to address drainage and settling issues (after the concept drawing was presented), I don't know if what was found doing those repairs (ground shifting, original method of pouring and curing the concrete, etc) will increase the cost of the indoors but the prospect is certainly feasible.

gamedrunk - to answer the question you meant to ask...when it rains in College Station, they go to the "indoor" courts in Bryan. They're little more than just covered courts with a fence and tarp around them. They do have a sound system and a lighting system and a little bit of seating.

We have almost always been terrible there. Courts are MUCH faster than outdoor, and that's not something that our players have ever seemed to be very good at.

Would love to see our all-time record at the Bryan Tennis Center, and/or all-time indoors...bet it's not very good.

Lest we not forget, we still have CSQ and Tina and Hristov in the induvidual championships. CSQ is wiping the floor with one of the witches with a B from Georgia right now. Up a set (6-2) and 1-0 in the second. Embree the gal from FL the #1 player for most of the year got canned in the first round, Naz took it on the chin as well in the first round.

So it will be CSQ vs Stanford's Gibbs again. The #1 and #2 both lost.

CSQ lost to Gibbs today 6-4,6-4 in the round of 16. Why the defending champ gets a 9-16 seed baffles me. A really bad draw for Christina.
Great season though for her and the team.

Just saw Gibbs has a WTA world ranking of 177. I don't think I've ever seen a collegiate player have a world ranking anywhere close to that high.

What an amazing year by the players and especially the coaches! We had 3 freshman in the lineup at the NCAA tournament which makes up for half of the lineup. Both of the coaches are very young in their college coaching careers and I believe that neither one of them had ever even made it past the first round of the NCAA tournament until last year. Just curious as to what the secret of the team's success really was for this year. Anybody have any insight on how this year turned out to be so successful?

I think it was the fact that our team was so deep. Our top 3 were great, with Naz (in my opinion) being the most consistent all year and in the tourney, but it was the freshmen in Stefania, the Deheza twins, and Mamalat who carried us through the tough matches, and whenever some of our top players would struggle. I don't know how many times during the year (including against UCLA) that our freshmen bailed us out, but it was a lot.

It's huge to lose CSQ, Naz, and Sun, but we got all our freshmen back, a real hitter in Stancu to lead us at the #1 spot, and hopefully some top notch recruits to contribute early like this year. When all is said and done though, it will still take that depth at the 4,5, and 6 spot to get as far as we did this year.
