Aggie men lose to OSU 4-0

Solid year for the men. Big improvement from last year. However this seems to be as good as Denton can do. Nothing to be ashamed of, but nothing exceptional either. I know all of you will rip me, but really is only slightly above standard results overall. Getting close to 10 years for Denton and Mckinley and I give them a B- overall. Sorry to all of you Denton lovers but can you really say they have done more than above average?

I don't agree this is the best Denton can do at all. Think about who we have coming back next year. Junior, Harrison, Shane, Jackson, and a guy named Efferding I think?

They will all be even better next year and will close out matches they should have had no problem with, like they did this year, like LSU, Tennessee, and Georgia to name a few. If all our returners continue to progress like they should (namely Harrison and Efferding), then we will be in the running for the SEC and a final four IMHO.

Up to this point, Denton and Mckinley have done nothing more than slightly above average. We can speculate about next year and I think they will have a good year next year, but there will be no run at a national title or anything close to it. They have had teams more talented than this year's team and still have not made it to the next level where they are legitametly contending for a title run.

Bigboy being a little harsh as usual. We should be congratulating them for a good year. On the other hand, I kind of agree with Bigboy to some extent. I think Denton can get us there however he hasn't done it yet.

Denton hasn't done it yet, but we did win the big 12 a few years ago. Next years team should be top 6-7 all year. Be excited for the future.

If the men bring in a top 3 player then maybe they will be in the top 10. Does anyone know if they are bringing in anybody? Not sure if they have any scholarships to work with.

Niall is gone so they will have money and should be bringing in a top euro. Have several looking at us

We are not in the Big 12 anymore. SEC is much tougher and if we don't get better we will be in the middle of the pack just like this year.

We were 4th the conference. Not too far off

Nice try there reborn, but let the records back up my statement. Georgia first, Tennesse second, 4 teams including us all had the same record. Middle of the pack. We also lost to LSU who had a lesser record.

Sixth highest nationally ranked SEC team with 3 others just behind us. Middle of the pack reborn.

I think this year was one of Steve and Bob's better coaching jobs; at the beginning I was very concerned whether we could be above 500 and eligible for the NCAA tournament; very tough schedule plus the move to the SEC was going to be very challenging; every year the first goal is to make the National Indoors and this team got that done; second goal is to be in the top 16 and host, and we got that done; third goal is to make the sweet 16 and we got that done in dramatic fashion over the Horns; the loss to OSU while frustrating was not very a big surprise; I thought Jeremy made huge strides this year, and I give most of the credit to the coaches who changed parts of his game; the addition of Harry and Shane in the middle of the line up was solid; Jackson's injury proved to be a big problem down the stretch and hopefully some time off will allow him to heal; look for at least one and maybe two new guys to be added to the mix;"wait til next year Old Army" is often overused, but I think on paper we should be improved; time will tell, I suppose

It was only 2 years ago that Austin and Jeff won the natty... This is an extremely young and extremely talented team. This is easily the best crop of talent that Denton and Mac have had. This is a top 7 team next year with the sky as the limit for the year to follow... Get excited for them!

This year certainly exceeded my expectations. For the talent and experience level we had and stepping into the SEC it was a great year.
Bigboys points have merit though. When you look at the overall body of work, since they've been here Steve and Bobby get no more than a B on my report card.
They've done several things very well. They've been able to recruit top American players and they've been able to develop them They're very good coaches. They've failed in being able to get that top foreign player who can get them into the upper tier. Until they can develop a really good foreign pipeline we're very rarely going to crack the top ten much less challenge for a title.

Even if we play a little better and upset Ohio State, I doubt we have a prayer making it past the Elite 8. This is a young team and just with what we have returning should be a top 8-10 team next year. If we could sign that true #1 player that bumps everyone else down a spot in the lineup we could be dangerous next year. Without it we still wont be able to handle those top tier teams(USC,UCLA, Virginia)imo. Does anyone know of any names of possible recruits we might land that will be that #1 guy?

We definitely need another top level guy but Efferding has proven he's a #1 this year. Ranked 18 in the country after starting the season unranked.

I totally agree with you about Efferding becoming that dominant player that can win for us at the top. The problem is that the top programs year end year out have 2-3 players in the top 20. Everyone has a good #1 that can win on any given day.

Exactly right. Harry and Shane showed some real promise, and I'm hoping the t.u match is a turning point for Junior. Add 1 more guy to this lineup with Jackson at 6 and we have a real shot here.

No names agwarrior, but I think we are primarily looking to Europe for an additional player or two. If we could find one top level player we could be pretty salty assuming we stay healthy.

Unless we can bring in a sure thing international player, I would be happy to add another American recruit the caliber of Harry or Shane(if there are any to be had). It might not bump everyone down a spot, but it would definitely help with some issues we've had with depth. Besides that, American kids seem to be more advanced doubles players. Foreign players can kinda be a gamble imo. The ones that we've brought in haven't really lived up to their hype. Grigorov was like top 5 in the jr. world rankings and never player higher than line 3, Klegou was good but hardly ever played doubles and only made a decent #1 last year when we were not very good. Theres also Angus who was injurede a lot and never made too much of an impact.

I don't think Steve is wedded to Europe for this spot by any means, just that I know he has been working that side of the street for the past several months. When I remember Demetru, Ante, Khalid, Grigs, Klegou, and Nials, I am talking about great young men who made a solid impact on our tennis programs and are great representatives of our university.(I am sure I left some out that I should remember). One thing is for sure, Steve is a tireless recruiter and I am confident something will work out for us.

I agree they were all great players, great teammates, and made the program better. Im just saying we've also had players like Colin Hoover who was a big time contributor who never got a dime to play at atm. Maybe its just easier to know what your getting with Americans?

I generally think that is a fair assessment; Colin btw graduated last Saturday; one of my all time favorites; lets just say we had a good time Saturday night;

I would be very surprised if we recruited European players. In saying that, however, Denton does go to Wimbledon each year and watches the junior matches there. Players of these guys ages improve a lot from year to year if they work hard. All of the sophomores have improved from last year. Efferding, Szabo, Withrow,Minavi. I have watched them practice a lot, they are all hard workers. Even if we don't recruit another player, this team will improve and do better next year.

tennisaggie may know more than I do (very likely), but I still expect a european. should know something relatively soon, I think.
