Facebook bites a swimmer recruit?

I heard through the grapevine that a well known tall male swimmer from Round Rock was scheduled for a visit to Aggieland recently.

Until it was noticed that his Facebook said he will choose between Texas and Auburn. Apparently TAMU cancelled the trip as a waste of time. Why waste the time for a host, the coaches, etc. on an athlete who doesn't want to come to A&M?

Good. Sounds like just the kind of ***** that would fit in well in Austin.

Great bull by the coaches, love to see this attitude rather than beg for a guy who's just looking for some free beer and a good party who never wanted to come here anyways.

If it is who I think it is - his brother swims for tu now. The HS brother is a better sprinter - and might have been a good fit here.

But maybe not!

You never know when a visit might get them to thinking. I don't have a problem with a guy having two favorites who wants to visit Aggieland. The worst that could happen is that we don't change his mind - the best? Who knows.

I've gotta disagree bcqe. Swimming recruiting isn't like football and basketball recruiting. If everyone on the team has seen his status, then he's not going to be accepted by the team either way, and having him even visit could cause issues. The swim team also doesn't have a huge budget to court swimmers who don't want to be here.

Also, I don't want to set anyone off, but if a swimmer has in his head he's choosing between t.u. and Auburn, not much is going to convince him to come to A&M. The fact that he put it on his status means he's probably got a big ego anyways, and if he came here instead of one of those 2 schools, you know the feeling would be that he didn't think he could handle t.u. or A&M.

I'm not saying nobody would ever choose A&M over those 2 schools, but the lure of swimming with all kind of Olympians is hard to ignore, especially once you've decided that's how you want to go.

I'm pretty sure A&M didn't cancel his trip.

I hope you advise your son that he should be very careful about what he puts on his facebook. Oh, and that he should probably stay off of message boards, because he might not like what he sees.

Just to clear the record, it was Auburn that cancelled his trip.
