How long do you want to ignore this user?
Another week month another GTKYN and for the third edition in a row, another former (current?) TAMOR member, JB.

You know the drill:

How old were you when you first discovered your passion for vehicles?

Would you ever lower a truck?

What's your preferred jam while hoonage ensues?

What's your typical Whataburger order?

How do you like your steak cooked?

If you were to build a sleeper with a typical budget, what vehicle would you use and what power plant would you use?

What state would you reside in if you weren't able to live in Texas?

Most f'ed up car/driving story of your life?

Favorite/least favorite beer?

Drink of choice?

What do you want your next vehicle to be?

How many JCI chili cheese dogs can you eat in one sitting?

Which car do you want to shove off a cliff?

In your opinion, what is the absolute worst modification that can be done to a vehicle?

3 favorite car related activities?

Preferred city for getting crunk?

Origin of user name?

Current hometown?

Original hometown?

Occupation?

Without considering cost, if you could give your kids any vehicle when they turn 16, what would you start them in?

Extra questions:

Current vehicle stable?

If you could will FoMoCo to recreate any former vehicle for the modern day with minimal revisions, what would it be?

Why do full size trucks make the worst off road vehicles?

And Guitarsoup's recent addition:
Your crazy uncle dies and the terms of the will are that all vehicles you currently own are given to charity, but you are given $300,000 to buy vehicles (new or used) with all gas and insurance paid for by his estate forever. You must have at least one sedan, one truck/SUV and one coupe/convertible. You can have any number of cars in addition to those three. What do you buy and why?

How old were you when you first discovered your passion for vehicles?

I was pretty young. Some of my earliest memories were my Dad double-buckling me and my younger brother in the pass. seat of his black 67 Stingray. We would haul ass down the very recently constructed Sam Houston Toll Road, over on the west side around I-10. As a kid, I guess you don't judge speed all that well, but I asked him recently how fast he went with two kids in the pass. seat, and he told me "triple digits" Hell yeah.

I remember learning to drive on a golf cart while Dad played golf. At 12-13 I was driving his 93 Camry up to the video store on Friday nights, with him next to me off course. I definitely credit my driving skills to him and keeping me behind a wheel from a young age.

I got caught by my mom taking the horrible chrome running boards of her 87 Suburban on day when i was about 8. Got the attaboy from Dad.

Would you ever lower a truck?

It's not really my thing, but I respect whatever as long as its done right. I've spend most of my life in Houston or San Antonio.....so I rarely get to see it done right.

What's your preferred jam while hoonage ensues?

While riding shotgun in Dad's Corvette, there was an Eagles tape stuck in the deck. I know every word to their top ten songs. When out wheeling, I usually have some Tx. Country playing. After a long day of work, trying to weave in and out of traffic to get home, I'll turn on some RATM

What's your typical Whataburger order?

Late night, 3 bacon/egg/cheese taquitoes with extra picante. I also really like the BBQ chicken strip sandwich. I eat alot of Whataburger.

How do you like your steak cooked?

Medium.

If you were to build a sleeper with a typical budget, what vehicle would you use and what power plant would you use?

I have never been a go-fast guy. I have always been into trucks/4x4s/Jeeps. But if I am choosing a sleeper, I have always liked old wagons. Something like a Fairlane wagon maybe?

A new Coyote under the hood would work

A wheeling sleeper? I have a TJ, which is just like every other TJ, but I would like to build it with tons, keep the coils and links(no fancy coilovers, keep it under 37s(stickies), keep it under 4", keep WB close to stock, probably an LS, auto, gearing. Fine with it looking Jeep-brah, but can still easily hang with the high dollar rigs.

For a road trip truck, I have always wanted to get my familys 87 Suburban back. I love that body style and you don't see many of them anymore. Modern LS and trans and keep that factory two tone that so many of them came with.3 rows of bench.

What state would you reside in if you weren't able to live in Texas?

Colorado. Probably would be very happy in Durango.

Most f'ed up car/driving story of your life?

Most all of my crazy stories revolve around my 1986 Ford Bronco.

My Dad bought this for me for $5000 in 1998. It was stock and very clean. 302/AOD/1356/8.8 I worked all through high school and eventually saved enough to buy a second hand Rancho 4" w/extended arms. Some used 33s and it was a highscoolers wet dream.

THE night I got it, I did donuts in a soccer field just outside Grob Stadium in Houston while our football team was playing under the lights. I was promptly arrested, then later let go. Dad had to fill the back of our Suburban with sand, and we had to fill the ruts the next morning. Didn't get to drive my sweet ride for about a month after that.

Another time, as dumb white kids tend to do, we were congregating in a large field consuming soda pops. An HPD chopper flies over, shines lights down, everyone freaks out. 9 people jump in the Bronco and we tear ass out of there. Got back to the nearest freeway, when someone in the back is telling me to pull over. Cops had been chasing us for about a mile, but with all the people crammed in, I just didn't know. Everyone pulled out of Bronco, 4 tickets, somehow allow to call parents and have them pick us up. One ticket was for driving without lights on, which I argued that there is no way I got all the way to where I was without lights. I was promptly told that the chopper lights were lighting my way. Dumb. One of the other tickets mentioned something about a hate crime. Apparently in a corner of this large field, there was a small cemetery. Luckily we got all that dropped. Dumb Dumb Dumb,

I burned something up in the transmission of my 04 F150 in college attempting a reverse burnout in front of some chicks in San Marcos. Somehow got that warrantied.

Broke a D60 balljoint on my Bronco and made it back to camp with a little help from my friends...

Favorite/least favorite beer?

My everyday beer is Coors Light. I drink several of the different beers at Freetail here in SA. I like all types, not a beer snob.

Drink of choice?

Beer

What do you want your next vehicle to be?

Currently looking to downsize out of my turd-250. Would not mind a 15 F150, or a used Raptor

How many JCI chili cheese dogs can you eat in one sitting?

Grew up loving JCI. Frequented the Westheimer location. I have been a few times in last 10 years or so and am really not that impressed anymore.

Which car do you want to shove off a cliff?

I dis**** basically all crossover SUVs. They all look the same to me.

In your opinion, what is the absolute worst modification that can be done to a vehicle?

Stacks. Horrible.

2 favorite car related activities?

Wheeling, Wrenching,

Preferred city for getting crunk?

CS. Went back for the Bama game a couple weeks ago. Place has changed alot, but I still love it.

Origin of user name?

Initials, what most of auto-related friends call me

Current hometown?

San Antonio, Texas

Original hometown?

Houston, Texas

Occupation?

Independent Contractor. I do remodels etc

Without considering cost, if you could give your kids any vehicle when they turn 16, what would you start them in?

I always think about this. I would get him a truck, probably 4x4, regular cab. If he was 16 today, I would prob be looking for a clean, granpa-owned 96-99 Z71. Maybe a 97-03 F150. I would try to keep cost under $5k, cause if he is my son, he is going put a dent in it.

Extra questions:

Current vehicle stable?

2011 F-250 XLT FX4 CC.

What a great truck up to 107k miles. Since then, it now has a new motor, turbo, starter, flywheel, deletes. The amount of money I have spent this last year on it is embarrassing. I had to refi to afford the motor, upside down now and looks like it needs a trans.........

2004 F150 XLT 4x46.5'

Owned since new. Was the last 04 on the lot at Varsity and had captians chairs. Currently has 255k miles on original 5.4. Multiple transmissions. Towed my Bronco everywhere for a good 6 years. Truck has been over ALOT of trails in SW Colorado mulitple times and I chased for a JeepSpeed team down in Baja in 2012. Sits on 35s now, Buckstop bumper, Warn 10k, Bilsteins. Waiting on some Raptor takeoffs from AggieTaco. I just finished a kayak rack for when we go down the Guad. Solid truck. Might keep forever.

1997 Jeep TJ 4.0 30/44 135k

Rolled this thing the day after I bought it then put it back together. Very simple and cheap. Spacers, 35s, PSC high fenders, Warn XP, lockright in the 30. Big plans, but little money. Works very well with basically stock geometry. Going from tons, 40s, V8, and a doubler, to this was not has bad of a transition as I thought.

Uncle Rico Rig.
1986 Ford Bronco

D60/4.88s/Detroit/chromos, leafs
10.25/4.88s/Detroit
Stock 302/AOD. 203/205 doubler.
39.5 Iroks on recenterd H1s

The truck was big and heavy and beat to ****. Went everywhere. I just really had it dialed in to the seat of my pants and knew what it was/wasn't going to do. Still working on getting that feel back with the TJ. Should never have sold off her good parts and sent her to the crusher.

If you could will FoMoCo to recreate any former vehicle for the modern day with minimal revisions, what would it be?

Raptor -based Bronco

Why do full size trucks make the worst off road vehicles?

Because they usually have ****ty drivers

Driving like the day I bought it, then boom, it shut down. We think a glow plug broke off. Lots of damage to cylinder and head. Put it back together with new Ford longblock with all the updates. Realized turbo suffered wrath as well. 2015 turbo updgrade and deleted with mild tune. Pretty quick truck. Loud, obnoxiously loud. That sucks. Smokes for second if you get on it, but nothing like the Dodge d-bags. Towing 12k is dangerous as you really don't know its back there. That sentence used to annoy the crap out of me from diesel d-bags, but its really true.

2 months later, the starter ate the flywheel. Trans has to come out, replace flywheel and starter.

6 months later I take it back to retune the transmission shifting, as I swear it has shifted this hard since the tuning. Shop saying bad trans. Driving through a parking lot or neighborhood, or any slow acceleration is brutal. Upshifts from 1-2, 2-3 feel like I am getting rear ended. Downshifts between those gears kinda the same. Quotes from 2 different shops, both over $7k. ATS sells one for $3500. Still too much.

No programmer. Shops uploads own tunes.

I just want out of the damn thing and go back to my F150. I have needed the diesel for the past few years pulling bobcats around, pulling a heavy dump trailer etc, but could get by without right now.

Seriously. Nothing but trouble. It's not just our branch either. Our company as a whole no longer buys them.

And before someone says warranty blah blah blah, the warranty does not cover lost productivity, lost sales, and lost efficiency because your trucks are constantly in the shop.

Has Ford not resolved these issues in the new trucks today?

EskimoJoe - What brand trucks are yall buying instead? I heard on Saturday that the '14 Rams one company uses have been having a bunch of issues too (more AC related type issues than engine problems, but in the shop either way with less than 50k miles).

Probably whoever wins the price war between Chevy and Dodge. We have had far better experiences with both in the past.

As far as I know, we are sticking with Ford for our half ton pickups.
