Aww, **sniff** I feel warm fuzzies! (Big ups to Silvy for giving me the heads-up this was here! On vacation and haven't been checking TA much in about a week or so.)

Now, to the answers:

I think I was always a "car guy", even when I was too young to really know for sure. But, in the 90's, during college, I ran with the Mustang/Ford crowd in San Antonio. I didn't have one, but I really wanted one, so I lived vicariously through homies. So, I'd say early 20's is when I REALLY went head-over-heels for speed/modding cars. I even helped a couple buddies at their shops on off-times of school/work when I could. I was already into car stereo in a BIG way, so it was a natural transition from electronics (I was studying EE in college) to mechanicals.

quote:

Did you have Hotwheels as a kid? If so, how many?

Yes, probably 100+ with a couple of the big 30-50 car carriers. I would, from time to time, even "mod" them with model-paint paint jobs or yanking wheels off one car and putting them onto another, etc.

I listen predominantly to hiphop and R&B, so it's usually something from TI, Ricky Rose', Lil Weezy, and the like. Basically, anything with a good beat that I can spee...I mean, drive sensibly to.

quote:

What's your typical Whataburger order?

Doublemeat WB with cheese, mayo/mustard/ketchup and all veggies with bacon and jalapenos, fries (spicy ketchup) and a Coke Zero/Diet Coke. Whatasized, of course.

quote:

How do you like your steak cooked?

Medium rare, with only salt/pepper as the seasoning.

quote:

What state would you reside in if you weren't able to live in Texas?

When I was little, my pop was active duty USAF, so I lived in IL and AK, other than TX.I now live in Iowa for the time being due to my job, but the only place I'd CHOOSE to live other than TX is AK. Most beautiful place I've ever seen and basically make Texans look like gun haters. But, it would take a VERY good job offer to get me to move there.

The time I sh/t myself the most, I guess, is coming back late Sunday night from cruising in my homie's 10s mustang GT (PAxton S/C and NO2). We were coming back from Military drive on the South side, where they streetraced all of the time, and were on the highway. My buddy was showing me how fast he could go in 3rd and 4th gears then we just raced some friends.I think we hit 140-150ish at one point when we were racing against my buddy's Mk2 GTI that was modded out plus nitrous, too. We were hauling ass when we came up on a SAPD car clocking on the shoulder along one of the curves. My buddy and me both yelled out "HOLY SH/T!". He didn't brake, he hammered the go-pedal and just took off. So did the GTI guy. I looked behind us to see the cop light up, pull out, then shut them off and just pull back onto the shoulder. Once we got further along, both drivers pulled off to side streets and we went separate ways.

I don't drink alcohol. Never have. Father was an alcoholic, so I never really felt the need to test the genetics of it. Now, I don't look down on drinkers like some non-crinkers might. Hell, some of my most vivid memories come from being the lone sober person amidst a sea of krunk-asses.

drink of choice

Diet Mountain Dew or Root Beer.

Now? Not many. I can't eat what I used to be able to eat, and even then, I couldn't eat what I could as a skinny teen. I'd say, maybe 3 or 4 now. I've lost about 75 lbs since mid-January. As a giant fatty (at one time, over 600 lbs, today ~340) probably 25-30, easily. When I was working at Whataburger in HS and early college, I once ate a 12 meat, 6 cheese Whataburger a "Family Fry" (old school WB goodness) and the old, stubby 32ounce shake. Then a couple pieces of my bday cake. No wonder I gained weight after HS!!!

Murano Convertibles and any car with an Obama/Biden sticker (though McCain or Romney stickers are right there, too)

1. Driving. Honestly, sometimes I just hop in and drive around, with no intention on actually doing anything else. Usually, I'm actually looking to do #2.

2. Drag racing. First started legal racing with my TBSS, but have always done it "in Mexico" whenever I could, no matter what I was driving.

3. Car shows. I love seeing ANY car, foreign/domestic, that's done well or has some thought behind it. Fast and loud, or slow and classic.

Nope. I took care of my pop for a long time, and it didn't afford me a lot of free time to really worry about it. Plus, I like money...

Nope. Though I have a couple kids that are pretty much like my surrogate daughters and some nieces and nephews.

Good story. Thanks for sharing.

My dad grew up on the southside of San Antonio and I have fond memories of him taking me down Military drive as a child. He used to race a Ford Pinto that he had to get rid of when I was born. And then when I was a little older he would take me down there in his Grand National and just drive up and down trying to get unsuspecting cars to race him.

BigRob, excellent story on the race. That was awesome. I do have a question: Don't you have a VW like a GTI or something? How do you fit into it at 6' 6"? Does your head touch the roof?

FYI: i admire you for all the care you gave your dad. Mine dad had dementia and Parkinson's and we helped my mom as caregivers for several years.

Thanks for all the TAMC/Auto Board love.

As for being so tall and driving a GTI, no I don't hit the ceiling actually. I have as much, if not more, room than in my Silverado to be honest. If you've never been in a newer VW, try one for sh/ts and giggles. The seats can be lowered basically to the floorboard, which makes the headroom expansive.

Dubi,

thanks, it was difficult, especially near the end, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. That's what family does. Takes care of bidness.

Military Dr was fun, but I really miss the chaos that used to be Bun n Barrel nights on Austin Hwy.

It's amazing how lax the city used to be to drag racing within the city limits.

It's not like these places were out in the sticks.

I lived in an apartment off SE Military for 2.5 years when I moved to San Antonio after law school. The street racing was pretty consistent. That's a great road for driving fast.

Hell, I used to jump the tracks on the back half of Weidner Rd heading to the post office on Perrin-Beitel back in the day. You could catch MAJOR air if you got enough speed. 1983 Ramcharger....LIKE A BOSS!!!

p_bubel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Heh. I grew up next to those tracks.

We had a contest to see who could get the furthest on the landing...till my buddy had to replace the engine in his Mom's car from ripping the oil pan off.

That spot and the one dip/hump at Jones-Maltsberger and Bitters... next to Blossom. I had a buddy land mostly on the sidewalk in that spot.

On it...so it's been the Dubis and myself...and that's it, all others are fair game? I can't remember, and searches brought up nobody else having been done on the AB, either.
