Wow...a lot happens when you sleep!
Haha!1
I'm flattered guys, but I'm just a general car dork.
Thanks for the compliments and non compliments. LOL.
I'm really humbled by everything, but I'm glad to help and add more useless knowledge and time wasting hours to everyones day. Being 8000 miles away, Texags is sometimes my lifeline of sanity.
As far as being a Ford fanboy, I guess I grew up with them. My dad always drove large sedans as a kid, as he was in sales in the oil & gas industry. My earliest memory of cars was my dads Oldsmobile 98 Regency, blue on blue with "Ultra Seal" coating, wire hubcaps and rear wheel skirts. Actually my favorite car brand used to be Oldsmobile as a kid. Then in the 80s when they all went badge engineered FWD, that kind of killed it for me. Later he moved on to Ford LTD Crown Vics and thats where I started to like Fords.
I've always liked MOST of Fords products. Looking back, growing up, they had some cutting edge stuff, but the problem that they had (and still have in some cases) is that they develop something really great, invest nearly nothing into it for 10 or more years, and then let it turn into a rental fleet queen, then die on the vine and replace it with something 'better' and then repeat the cycle. This can be said with a lot of their bread and butter products. Their high profit trucks and SUVs did not get this mostly. Heavy refresh cycles, new products and innovation, but they let the cars fester.
Look at the Ford Tempo. In 1984 it was the predecessor for the jellybean shape of future cars. It had fuel injection available, a diesel option, good MPG. Fast forward 10 years later. Same body shape, some new headlights, no standard airbag, a 3 speed automatic transmission, and automatic seatbelts. Replaced by a Americanized Mondeo (Contour) that was an afterthought because Ford needed a car in this class. The first generation Fusion that replaced it was a good effort, and the second and current generations are pretty damn nice. Finally.
Ford Taurus, the car that replaced the Midsized LTD. Aerodynamic, cutting edge, and ran on the same overall platform from 1986-2007. Same Vulcan V6, same transmission, and same overall suspension. They did a good job in 92 with the refresh, and failed in 96 with the Frog/Oval theme. 2000s refresh was better but by that time it was a rental/fleet car. Not exciting, not fast, but reasonably reliable and safe. Again, by this time, Toyota and Hondas products had evolved, and Fords stuff was stagnant. In 2005, the Five Hundred was introduced, as a half hearted attempt at a replacement for the Taurus and Crown Victoria. While a nice car, was just not competitive in the class. Again, Ford does a half-assed refresh in 2008, renames it the Taurus, and then again, Fleet queen. 2010 comes around and theres an all new car. Much different, much better, and I liked what they did with the product. Ford still has some things they need to fix, but I like how they realized this and improved it. Look at GM's W Body Lumina/Impala....
Same goes with the ranger. But I can sit here and write all day about this crap, but I guess my 'like' with Ford products is because its what I grew up with, and Im familiar with maintaining them, and I like their new products and innovation.
Sorry about the long post.
Whats GTKYN?
Thanks and gigem guys!
