Our previous victim was a total bust, so out with the old and in with the new!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How old were you when you first discovered your passion for vehicles?

Would you ever lower a truck?

What's your preferred jam while hoonage ensues?

What's your typical Whataburger order?

How do you like your steak cooked?

If you were to build a sleeper with a typical budget, what vehicle would you use and what power plant would you use?

What state would you reside in if you weren't able to live in Texas?

Most f'ed up car/driving story of your life?

Favorite/least favorite beer?

Drink of choice?

What do you want your next vehicle to be?

How many JCI chili cheese dogs can you eat in one sitting?

Which car do you want to shove off a cliff?

In your opinion, what is the absolute worst modification that can be done to a vehicle?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Quick answers..

I'm probably more boring than you'd expect, but I'll give it a shot...

> How old were you when you first discovered your passion for vehicles? I can't remember. My parents tell me I was identifying them when I was only two or three years old. Back then cars had hubcaps and apparently that was what I was using. It took them a while to figure out how I was doing it!

> Would you ever lower a truck?

Sure, why not? In some respects they're the last of the muscle cars. And then there are things like the Syclone that would be weird not to be low! If I was rich and had a fancy enclosed trailer for my race car and a fancy, big dually to pull it with, I might consider lowing the dually a bit and making it an awesome tow rig.

> What's your preferred jam while hoonage ensues?

I'm really not into music much. When I do listen to it, it's usually country. But never while I'm on track. So, I guess the real answer is, my engine is my preferred jam!

> What's your typical Whataburger order?

Burger (mayo/lettuce/onion only), fries, chocolate shake. Boring, but whatever.> How do you like your steak cooked? Medium rare. Seared on the outside a bit, if possible.

> If you were to build a sleeper with a typical budget, what vehicle would you use and what power plant would you use?

I'd put my '66 Bug back together, but rather than making it "Cal Look" I'd just leave it stock looking and keep the 2110cc motor. It used to be a high 13s car in the 1/4, could be faster with some tweaking. That's not super fast these days but not many people would expect it out of a '66 Bug!

> What state would you reside in if you weren't able to live in Texas?

Hmm, that is super tough. California has some nice race tracks... but it is California. I've really never thought about this before!

> Most f'ed up car/driving story of your life?

For a guy that loves cars and driving, I am having trouble thinking of a really crazy story. I fell asleep once on I35 coming back from a date. That was terrifying and stupid.

> Favorite/least favorite beer?

I don't really drink anymore, but I do enjoy a good hefeweizen occasionally.

> Drink of choice?

Water?

> What do you want your next vehicle to be? There are so many ideas and wants! I'd love a 996 GT3. But I'd also love the ND Miata. Or a Golf R. Or a Bentley. Or a Ferrari 308. I'm going to need a bigger garage and a better paying job...

> How many JCI chili cheese dogs can you eat in one sitting?

One, probably. Maybe two.

> Which car do you want to shove off a cliff?

We had a Chevrolet Citation growing up. That was a piece of crap car. The seats were plastic; I don't mean some kind of nice plastic leatherette or something that would seem nice, no, they were just plastic. In the Texas sun they would get to about 200F or something. I'm pretty sure my whole family would help me shove that thing off a cliff.

> In your opinion, what is the absolute worst modification that can be done to a vehicle?

Chain steering wheels? No, seriously, ****ty tire and suspension choices is probably the worst thing.

> 3 favorite car related activities?

This is tough! Going to the track is obviously #1 on my list. Getting together with fellow TrackJunkies is #2. Thinking about performance changes to my race car is probably #3.

> Preferred city for getting crunk?

I'm old and don't know what crunk is. But I'm finding Houston to be a fun city to be in.

> Origin of user name?

I was born a poor black child...

> Current hometown?

We're in Houston right now while my wife does a postdoc at the Medical Center. We might like to stay a while, if she can find a job.

> Original hometown?

I was born and raised in Austin.

> Occupation?

I'm an IT Infrastructure Architect. I help people achieve their business goals through IT systems innovation! Or something like that. It's not really what I'd like to be doing, but I'm good at it and it pays the bills.

-List tracks of texas in the order of your favorite to your least fav and why?
-Any laptimes that you are particularly proud of? Which track were they accomplished at and why?
-Do you believe in wearing any kind of special driving shoe on the track for that oh so special pedal feel?

(I love these freaking threads)

No, no, I would _never_ get a vanilla shake with my Whataburger. If you see that happening, aliens have snatched my body.

My track car is a pretty basic 1999 Miata build. It's got nice suspension, decent seat, harness, etc. Motor makes about 130-136hp depending on tune. Nothing really fancy going on, honest. You can find a build thread here: http://www.trackjunkies.org/topic/2373-gonk-1999-mazda-miata/

I tow with my Expedition. It works great:

Let's see. Texas track rankings: Motorsport Ranch in Cresson is easily #1; very technical track, not a single "standard" corner on it, that nobody will ever get perfect, IMHO. TWS is #2 because it is fun and fast. MSR Houston #3. I guess COTA is #4; yes, amazing facility, but meh, too hyped and kind of boring in a Miata. The rest sort of get lumped elsewhere.

I'm probably most proud of my 1:56 lap at TWS. That's hauling ass with 136hp. I've got great laps at almost all the tracks, really. I'm a very good driver. Not a great racer, but if you need a qualifying lap or setup on your car done, I'm your guy.

I do wear driving shoes when I drive. They definitely help. Footwork is obviously important to high performance driving, being able to move the feet and feel what they're doing is critical.

Haha, don't feel bad. I'm a fast driver, in a well prepared car, with lots and lots of time on that track.

Not really relevant to the thread, but here's a couple of fun laps from this weekend:

Yeah, I feel highly motivated to buy one because Mazda has done such a ****ing awesome job on all the Miatas and they've gone and done everything we ever wanted to the ND.

The newest car and driver issue had a Decades piece on various models. They compare the NA to ND in one column, incredible that the dimensions and weight are so similar and power is up.

Nice Miata setup. Always have wanted to get into a track vehicle but for now just having a TAG Kart has been fun to learn on. Definitely cheaper this way

Karts are awesome. I've talked to a few friends, mostly jokingly, about selling the cars and getting karts. I'm really hoping my little girl wants one in a few years...

My car list is pretty boring, too: 1984 VW Scirocco, 1967 Bug, 1966 Bug, 1988 VW Jetta GLI, 1998 VW Jetta, 2003 VW Jetta GLI, 2008 VW Rabbit, 1997 Toyota Tacoma, 1999 Miata, 2012 Ford Expedition.

If I had $50K to spend right now, I'd probably find a 996 GT3.

Free vacation... hmm... my first thought is Spa. But there are so many amazing places to go and see, that'd be tough to really settle on.

Race car driver, duh...

I worked at a VW shop out of high school. That was really my favorite job ever. I've always wanted to own a gas station with a few bays that did basic maintenance. I love cars. I love helping people with their cars. I'm probably awfully wrong about how cool this idea is.

I'm very intrigued by the Miata track racing. All I ever did was autocross with my WRX, and it was a blast but I just couldn't see spending the money to race very often with a couple young ones now. Got my racing fix with RC cars prior to moving overseas, and now have no way to race at all sad to say. Work does get in the way of fun (but pays the bills).

Maybe one day I'll be able to get into full racing, those videos you post make me very jealous!

Great job answering all the questions. I love these threads.
