To our TexAgs community:

Two weeks from today, 56 people (a number of them Aggies and TexAgs posters) will embark on a quest that may sound familiar to many of you when they attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest baseball game in the history of the world. This is the record that many TexAgs users worked to set last year when they played 49 hours. Our very own Gabe Bock and Brice Jones were among them. Shortly after that game, a group from St. Louis came along and smashed that attempt by playing for just over 60 hours. But soon—the record will be back where it rightfully belongs: right here in Texas, right here in Aggieland!

To be clear, this game is pretty physically demanding. This is overhand, hard-pitch baseball, complete with batting helmets, umpires, and real wooden bats, and the 56 players are required to be present at the field for the entire duration of the game. It’s just one huge, long, epic, non-stop baseball game—and all for a great cause.

I'm sure most of you guys have heard about Mercy Project. Mercy Project was started by BCS resident, Aggie, and a longtime TexAgs poster, Chris Field. The mission of his charitable organization is to rescue enslaved children in Ghana, provide these children with an education, and develop the communities where they live. It's truly an amazing ministry and one that TexAgs fully supports and endorses. I have been to Ghana with Chris once already, and I am headed back with him again in about a month. I believe deeply in this work, and my family is committed to doing everything we can to help be a part of the solution that Mercy Project is bringing to the people and children of Ghana.

The main goals for this game are to: 1) raise awareness about the children in slavery in Ghana, and 2) raise money for Mercy Project to continue the important work that they’re already doing there. The second part is where you come in!

I’m asking each of you to consider making a donation to this game. Last year, Gabe Bock played in the game and raised just over $10,000 from TexAgs users. This year, I’d like us to sponsor Chris Field, the heart and soul behind Mercy Project. He’s organized and played in the last four Guinness events that Mercy Project has done, but he’s never actually had any money earmarked for him personally since he’s always doing so much other fundraising. I think this would be a pretty special way to honor him. What about a goal of $12,000 this year from the 12th Man of TexAgs? I’ll start things off with a donation of $1,000.

If you want to give, all you have to do is click HERE to make your tax deductible donation. If you prefer, you can make a pledge on this thread and then get in touch with Mercy Project to take care of the funding.

Let’s do this based on a per-hour rate that you might be willing to donate in Chris’ name! Remember that the number of hours that he'll be out there is 61. So if you pledge or donate and you go with $1 per hour, you will need to make your donation totaling $61.

Can you afford a buck for every hour? Five bucks? Ten bucks? It will help more than you know!

If any one of you donates or pledges to donate at least…

1) …$2.00 per hour ($122 total), Chris will…
- Pitch for no less than 18 (non-consecutive) innings throughout the game.
- Bat at least once like the player of your choice (Canseco? Julio Franco? Bagwell? You name it, he’ll do it--and post a video!)

2) …$5 per hour ($305 total), Chris will…
- Post a running thread throughout the game with score updates/funny stories.
- Play every position on the field during ONE INNING (catcher/pitcher included).
- Send you an official “Mercy Project Baseball Bash” t-shirt.

3) …$10 per hour ($610 total), Chris will…
- Bat left handed (he’s a righty) ten straight at bats during the game.
- Send you two official “Mercy Project Baseball Bash” t-shirts.
- Send you one of the official balls used in the game and signed by the players.

4) …$15 per hour ($915 total), Chris will…
- Do live play-by-play on the PA for the first three innings of the game.
- Send you three official “Mercy Project Baseball Bash” t-shirts.
- Send you one of the official balls used in the game and signed by the players.
- Send you a framed copy of a picture of the teams at the end of the game.

5) …$40 per hour ($2,440 total), Chris and I will…
- Treat you to dinner at the Republic Steakhouse.
- Have you in-studio to observe TexAgs Radio LIVE.
- Send you five official “Mercy Project Baseball Bash” t-shirts.
- Send you one of the official balls used in the game and signed by all players.
- Send you a framed copy of a picture of the teams at the end of the game.
- Send you one of the custom made, game-used wooden bats, engraved with Mercy Project, the event dates and the world record attempt.

Any single donation of $3,000 or more will receive all of the above + a signed and framed jersey from the game. As a bonus, this year’s jerseys are maroon and white!

My husband and I are super pumped about playing again this year! As a player, we need you to come and cheer and yell for us! We have a lot of fun raising awareness for this great cause. We are so blessed to have Mercy Project fighting the practice of childhood slavery. Thanks TexAgs for helping get the word out!

Jason Meyer won't be there but his older brother Jared Meyer will be playing. Not joking in the case that you didn't already know that.
